Hey everyone, Just wondering if anyone on here is from the Mid-Michigan Area (Lansing, E. Lansing, DeWitt, Holt, ect...) I was banded on Sept. 15th by Dr. Mindy Lane @ Minamally Invasive Surgical Associates. Just seeing if there is anyone else "around town". I see there is no support group for us Mid-Michigan People!!!!

Where are all the Michigan people at??

Dr. Mindy Lane at Minamally Invasive Surgical Associates. They do surgeries through Ingham County Regional Medical Center. The only other place is Sparrow. I know that Sparrow's is a lot more strict in pre-op diet (3weeks of shakes compared to 2weeks w/ IRMC). I just got banded through MISA and they are great people. I put links to my surgeons and thier background info and contact info is on those pages as well. Call them and they will set up a pre evaluation with you to get the ball rolling!!! Good luck in whatever you choose!!! http://www.mmponline.com/physicians/4

Sparrow specializes more in the Gastric Bypass as did Ingham at the time I made my desicion. I was actually enrolled at Ingham when the cut the Bariatric program there. To get surgery at Ingham you have to go through a place called Minamally Invasive Surgical Associates. Its somewhat small right now, but is growing rapidly!!! My doctor was Dr. Lane and she is a no non-sense Dr. that will give it to you straight! I like that and she is an overall good person. Some people I bet are turned off by her because she stays with you. She just doesn't do operations and then forget about you. I guess it just came down to who I thought would take care of me more and Dr. Lane was it.
  11. Hey Ang, no problem, I'm glad to see you have started the process!! They will schedule your surgery once you have had your psych eval, nutrition consult, finish you nutrition classes...have you done a sleep study? I had BCBS Comm. Blue, but I was 5'4" and 303 which meant I did not need any kind preauthorization from them. In fact, I just got my statement and I don't owe BCBS a dime!!! It depends on your BMI and any comorbidies you may have. Basically when Dr. Lane and Richardson feel they have all they need is when they will schedule you. It is usually a month out so they can get you started on the shakes you will be drinking for 2 weeks prior to surgery. It's hard at first, but when you se the lbs shedding off...you don't mind too much!! =) Any other questions feel free to ask!!!!

Ang, no complications w/ surgery. It may seem like they go to far sometimes as far as blood work and various othr tests, but they really want you to be commited and are ready for surgery. I will be @ the Dow Auditorium tonight @ 5:30pm for Dr Lane. Will u be there?

Hey Ang, I was just banded the 15th of Sept @ Ingham Regional Med. Center. You have to go through Minimally Invasive Surgical Associates @ the Mid-Michigan Physicians Complex on Lake Lansing Road. Dr. Lane is a no B.S. doc. She is very straight forward and honest. The staff there will help you with anything! Give them a call and tell them you are considering the LapBand, they would love to talk to you. Address: 1540 Lk. Lansing Rd. Lansing, MI Phone: 517-913-4010

    Birthday ideas anyone?

Thank you guys for responding! I will have to try the ricotta, never heard or had anything like it, sounds interesting though!! I did find some healthy recipies for pumpkin pie as well. I think the pumpkin may need to be more "whipped" however. I am tolerating foods pretty well, but I am also being careful as to not rush what I eat. I should be okay with the pumpkin pie though (never liked the crust anyway!! :smile2: ).

    Birthday ideas anyone?

Hey all! Just got banded on Monday the 15th. B-day is the 21st. My mom asked me today if I knew of anything I could have to celebrate (since obviously i cannot have cake!!). I thought pumpkin pie, but i looked it up and it doesn't seem healthy. I dunno, I just figured someone out there in the Lapband talk world would have an idea that is acceptable for someone a week out. Thanks!

    Any September Banders?

Just got my phone call on Friday that I will be getting banded on Sept. 15th!!! I start the VLCD on Sept 1st which is worrying me, I've heard it is a struggle. I've made it through several addictions so I'm sure I can make it through two weeks of shakes. I even get a Low-Cal, Low-Carb, Low- Sugar snack in between the 3 "shakes".
  19. As you can tell by my username I'm a Michigan guy! But I won't hold it against you that you're a Spartan! =P Can I ask where you got your surgery done? Have you had surgery?

  20. Hey everyone! My name is Dan; I'm 26 yrs old from Lansing, MI. I just started my "journey" in March. I weigh 298 lbs. right now, but topped out over 300 lbs. and I freaked out. My BMI is well over 50 and I knew I had to do something as diets just don't work. After researching my surgery options I decided on the Lap-Band. I am currently enrolled in the New Beginnings program at Ingham Regional Medical Center. I have already finished my PCP, RN, Exercise & Behavioral Therapist consults. Tomorrow I get to do my dietician consult and a week later I have to have a sleep study done and see a psychologist. Then I have to attend my 8 weeks of "classes" to help prepare me for life after being banded. The bariatric coordinator said I "should" be getting banded sometime late July**fingers crossed**. I'm hoping to get down to around 145-50 lbs within 1.5-2 yrs. Well, anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. This website is great and seems to give me a lot of answers and support!
