for those with sever gas pains from the co2 and gastric sleeve
acuttita replied to jack tripper's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m three days out post op and i experienced a ton of pain from the gas the first day i was in the hospital. Eventually i was able to pass some and since I’ve been home I’ve had more soreness and pressure in my stomach area and a little in my back due to sleeping. I’m still trying to find my hitch in that. I’m walking too but I’m not allowed any milk products for at least two weeks, only clear liquids so for me it’s broth and jello and water and clear premier protein drinks. Good luck with your new journey -
I GOT APPROVED!! THIS IS THE BEST DAY.

Congrats!! It’s one of the best feelings in the world. When my surgeons office called me I felt like I had just won the lottery. Good luck! -
So today was my surgery. I was at the hospital at 7am and I was done with surgery and recovery and in my private room by 11:30. It was so smooth and all the staff has been so polite and nice, coming to this hospital was the best choice for me and doing this surgery was the best decision. My stomach does not hurt so much but my back is killing me from all the gas. I knew it would hurt but i didn’t know this much. Some friends came to visit which was very nice to know i had support and I’m so happy to start this new journey of life. HW: 284 CW: 278.2 GW: 140

Well last night I didn’t sleep much and I still have a little pressure from my incision sites but I saw my surgeon this morning and he gave me the green light to go home, I’m just waiting on my discharge papers. I do have a little headache but I’m eager to get home and rest in my own bed, hopefully then I will get some sleep. Overall I’m happy with my decision surgery wise, hospital wise and surgeon wise.

Congrats on your surgery, mine was today too so we are surgery buddies. Good luck on your journey -
So tomorrow is my surgery. I have to be at the hospital at 7am and I am very nervous. I think a part of me is sad because my mom isn’t support of my weight and I feel like I am betraying her for not sharing this news with her. I’m also an only child so it doesn’t help. Well I’m just asking for some prayers and well wishes since I am nervous. Thanks everyone

That’s awesome! Good luck tomorrow too. Mine is here in Jupiter, FL so i will be thinking of you when you go in tomorrow too.

Hi guys, I’m having surgery on Thursday. What is everyone’s thoughts about when to return to work. I’m a billing manager and I spend my days at my desk punching numbers, no heavy lifting or anything. I can do some work from home but I’m still curious as to everyone’s thoughts? I know people who have taken two weeks off, some have taken a week and some went back after like five days. Please share.

My surgery is this Thursday, May 3rd. I’m very nervous but excited as well but i think my nerves are overshadowing my excitement. No one in my family knows and it helps that they live in another state but i have lots of support from friends and the support i get on this app helps too.

Hi Everyone, so today it was confirmed that my surgery date is next Thursday May 3rd. I am very nervous and scared especially since I live alone. I do have a ton of support from friends where I live in Florida who are willing to help out during this time and I also have friends who have gone through it too so they are a huge support. My family, especially my mother, does not know about the surgery and I am not telling them for the fact that I know they will either try and talk me out of it or not be supportive. So I’m doing this for me. Well all I’m asking is for some prayers and I know I’m going to rely on support from everyone here on the app so please reach out with some advice. I live in West Palm Beach, FL so if anyone is local it would be nice to have some local support too. Thanks guys!

Ok so I saw the nutritionist last week and the office submitted final papers to my insurance for approval and told me to start the pre-op clearance. They stated they couldn’t give me a date for surgery until we heard back from insurance but when I went to my PCP today, they had a fax from my surgeons office stating May 3rd was the surgery. Did they just say that to have them start the clearance or do you think that may be the date? See I’m in school and I’ll be on break until May 19th so I’m trying to have the surgery before then. Any thoughts on this info?

I had my one visit with the nutritionist today and it went well. The lady at the office is now submitting all my paperwork with the psych evaluation to my insurance, United Healthcare, for final approval. She said it takes up to 30 days and the earliest I could have the surgery would be end of May. I struggle with that since I go back to school on May 19th so we are hoping for a quick turnaround (my insurance has been rather fast, a week at the most lately) and of all goes with that I can schedule for the first or second week of May. I’m getting nervous but I’m also getting anxious because I hate waiting. Any tips?

So I had my first visit with the surgeon on March 12th and I loved him. We discussed the procedure and everything that happens afterwards. My only thing is that since I am going through my insurance, United Healthcare, I have to do six months of nutrition appointments. Real bummer!! What I don’t understand is that this is a requirement of UHC but I come to find out that they don’t pay for the nutrition visits. How can they make this a requirement of the surgery and refuse to pay for it? If that’s the case, then either pay for it or allow me to do the one visit like my surgeon recommended and schedule the surgery for when I want. Well being that they don’t pay for it, I’ve decided to appeal this policy with them. I have no issue doing the visits but then pay for it. Right now I’m just waiting for their decision. Has anyone ever tried this? If so, what happened? I figured I have a 50/50 shot and the worst they can say is no so why not at least try.

Yes my doctor still has me doing one nutrition visit and a psych evaluation which I am content with. My appointment for nutrition is next Thursday so I’m hoping i get my date thence
-
I can’t believe they waived it either. My appeal letter basically just asked them to pay for the six months nutrition visits and in turn they decided to waive it. I guess that was a better option for me. I’m hoping next week I can get my date [emoji1374]

My secret sleeve journey
acuttita replied to TropicalBeachDoll's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Very brave! I too have a toxic family, specifically my mother. No matter what the conversation is she always brings up my weight and how she knows I’m going to be alone for life because of it (we live in separate states too). This past January I got insurance through my school and it covers the gastric sleeve so I decided to do it without my family knowing because I knew my mom would discourage me from doing it. I’m getting close to getting a date and for me personally I have done some soul searching and have decided to tell my mom one week before the surgery. I’ve decided this because In the past I’ve had emergency surgery and the doctor had to call my mom in NY and tell her everything. I don’t want something to happen and have her have to get a call from someone else. I want to give her the option of coming down to Florida to help me (if she wants to be supportive) after my surgery. This is my journey and my experience but I completely understand your reasoning and I support you. I can’t wait to see your results and I know it will be amazing -
So I received this letter today from the insurance company in regards to my appeal. If i am reading it correctly, they are waiving the 6 month nutrition visits prior to having the surgery. Is that what everyone else sees or understands? I called the doctors office and forwarded them the letter and she said she’s never had anyone appeal the six months with UHC but will look it over since their rules state six month visits. Should i hold my breath and not get my hopes up?

So tomorrow is my first appointment with the surgeon. I’ve waited a month to meet with the doctor because I’ve wanted a specific surgeon and he had a month waiting list to get in. My insurance has pre-approved me already because I needed to go through them even before I had my first appointment but due to having UHC I have a six month period of meeting with a nutritionist first before I can have the surgery [emoji20] This is just a bummer for me because I was hoping for sooner rather than later. Can anyone give any advice on what to expect tomorrow with the surgeon and should there be any specific questions I should ask?

The 6 months leading up to surgery
acuttita replied to Uterno's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My insurance requires six months too and I haven’t even started the process yet. My first visit is on March 12th and i am struggling a little with the time frame. How did you do it? Also I am trying to have what someone referred to me as a good funeral where i cut back on things now so I am prepared. My biggest issue is pasta so for lent i gave it up. I’m trying to start slow and easy -
So the doctors office just called me and scheduled my first appointment with them now that my insurance covers it but it’s not for another month [emoji17] They also informed me that per my insurance which is United Healthcare, it is a requirement that I meet 5 times with their nutritionist over a period of six months. That’s six months I have to wait for a date for the surgery which is very depressing to me. I have a wedding in October and I wanted to make some progress by then so right now I am feeling a little defeated. Anybody else go through this and what was the outcome?

So i just got the letter in the mail today from my insurance company that they pre-approved me for the sleeve and I am beyond thrilled. This news couldn’t have come at a better time. Now i need to make the appointment with the surgeon as to what the next steps are. My insurance is different because it’s through my school I had to get all this pre-approved before I could even meet the surgeon because then i could risk them not paying all together. Any advice on what the next steps would be? How long also was everyone in the hospital and what days do you recommend doing the surgery if i have an option? And how long were you out of work? I’m in grad school as well so I am trying to figure this all out but not wait too long putting this off.

I was wondering how long were you in the hospital after the procedure? I am in the process of getting an answer from insurance and i was curious. -
Hi guys, i just went to my PCP and had to get a letter from them for the insurance company to pre-approve the surgery and my appointment with the surgeon. They told me it takes 15 days to hear back from them. I am so nervous because the waiting game is the hardest. My insurance covers it but it’s just a matter of them saying i meet medical necessity. Any advice on the waiting game?
