  1. I have taken pictures weekly since coming home from surgery. That is how i have been tracking. But it is true. We are hard on ourselves.
  2. My Nutritionist did a food demo this week and here they are. No after picture but I finished them both. For perspective the glass is a a shot glass and bowl is a small dessert bowl. She served less than an once of yogurt in each. They both were great and opposites on flavor. My wife hates food demos because I skip out in dinner.
  3. Matcha is a specially ground Japanese style green tea. If you remember watching Karate Kid II, its the tea used in the tea ceremony. It is said to be really beneficial to use. My previous PCP swore by it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matcha

    Today's menu

I feel the same. I am 10 months out and shoot for 11-1200 calories a day. At 8 weeks I was about 650-800 calories a day. I upped my intake at 6 months to the 11-1200 after being cleared to lift weights and start training for a 5K. I talked to my nutritionist who said to up my intake to make up for the amount being burned up while exercising. I exercise daily by walking/jogging for 35 minutes and I strength train every other day. Most days I burn up about 6-700 calories from exercise. I have had very few stalls and they last no more than a week.
  5. Be careful with gum. My team said its a no for life. Not only can it cause bloating because of swallowing air, but chewing is a trigger to the stomach to start producing acid. Also if it is accidentally ingested it could be an issue for your sleeve/pouch. I would check with your medical team with the gum chewing.
  6. I had 2 1/2 weeks. I wish i could have taken more but my work was piling up. Desk job as well. The biggest challenge will be your energy levels. Upon my return I was exhausted by the end of the day. I had just started pureed's and was getting about 400-600 calories a day. My suggestion, take as much time as you can.

    Non Scale Victories

Went to Six Flags Magic Mountain last week. Got to go a a few rides I couldn't the last time I was there 5 years ago. It was a great day.
  8. I was the same way. At first i would tell whoever asked. After a few interactions with normies (that's what we call non-surgery people in our support group) I now go by a person by person basis. In general I say "I worked with my doctor on meal and exercise program". That usually is enough for most.

    Progress or the lack of

If you are exercising and lifting as you say, your calories are probably too low. My nutritionist had me up my calories from 900 to 1300. I usually hit it at +/- 100 calories of that daily. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week where I run and lift those days spending about 90 minutes there, on my non gym days I walk for 2-3 miles. The nutritionist told me I need the extra calories if working out, if not the body holds on to what it can for survival. You may want to speak to a nutritionist that works with bariatric patients.

  11. Give it some time. You are very early out. Best thing I have been working on is mindful eating. Here is a link with some tips, but there are many articles on this https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/10-tips-for-mindful-eating-just-in-time-for-the-holidays-201511248698. My pre surgery class did an exercise on this and it was quite the experience with a hershy's kiss.

Ohhhh... now I have so many questions

I took 2 1/2 weeks off. Wish I would have taken a bit more. At that time i was dead tired by the end of the work day the first few weeks coming back. Remember at that time your calorie intake is so low at first and even sitting sitting thinking is burning up those calories. I was cleared to drive a few days after surgery, as soon as I was off the pain pills.

    Counting Carbs

If your carb counting, only net carbs. Net carbs are fiber and/or sugar alcohols which our bodies cannot process.

    My first 5K

My son and I did our first 5K on Thanksgiving morning. My goal was to finish it in under 45 minutes, I finished it in 37:44. I’m super stoked and can’t wait until my next one.

    My first 5K

keep at it and your lungs will acclimate to the jogging. I was the same when i started, you can even repeat a workout if need be and then move to the next one. As for the treadmill, I find outside easier to jog than on the treadmill, minus road hazards such as cars and people, I enjoy going to my local park that has a course, or my local high school track.

    My first 5K

Almost 9 months out. Had surgery in early March. Started to jog somewhat (very little) after getting cleared by my doc at the 3 month.Around October I said I would do my YMCAs Turkey trot. I got the Couch25K app by Active and started training October 7th. The plan is for 9 weeks but the turkey trot was going to be in less time. By week 7 you are 5 min warm up, 25 min jog, and 5 minute cool down. I figured I'd be good if I paced myself. I am super stoked and am going to do my next one for New Years. My siblings have all agreed to do it as well.

    Protein shakes??

Premiere Protein Strawberry is my favorite. To me it tastes like Strawberry Quick, which I loved as a kid. Second is banana, then chocolate. My wife's favorite is Peaches and Cream and I can't stand the Caramel.

How exactly does bypass change your fat metabolism?

@Wanda247 the article would not apply to you or I in regards to metabolism changes since we are sleeve patients. The article is talking about changes to bypass patients because of the alteration in the GI tract. Thanks for sharing the article @Kimmie K, it is a good read.

    Driving

I drove 4 days after, but was uncomfortable until about a week after, I drive a manual Transmission and the shifting was a bit of a pain.
  22. It is true. I have noticed that people I interact with at work and socially are more inclusive with me now and talk more often. @Matt Z you are right that women and men do notice and act differently than pre surgery. I also wonder how much we changed as well not only in attitude, I for one dress up a bit more than I used to as well as changed my hairstyle from short spikey never combed to a nice style with a fade.
  23. Health - I was lucky only to have Diabetes but did not want to tempt fate, so I decided to make changes in health Family - I want to be a role model for my kids in health and was failing miserably Longevity - I want to be around my Family and future additions Mobility - I was mobile pre surgery, hiking, camping and stuff. Now its just so much easier and I'm not the last one slowing down the group Roller Coaster - its been years and am looking forward to going to Six flags soon. Also am looking into Skydiving Looks - never really bothered me, but I have noticed attitude changes in people I knew, they are more inclusive than before surgery. It could also be me being less shy Romance - I'm happily married and have no concerns in this department.

    It's a great feeling...

It is a bit funny, people that never talked to me before the surgery now do, women and men.
