    January 2020 Surgery Date

I had VSG at that same Kaiser in March 2018. Dr Kim was my surgeon (moved to Kaiser Harbor City), and I saw Dr Um at my one year. He was very nice. Good luck on your surgery.

    Going out to eat...

My dad had his 65th birthday 2 weeks after surgery. I had minestrone soup, I asked the kitchen to strain out all solids and enjoyed the broth.

I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

Stick to your teams plan. Its still early. The effort you put in now will pay off over the next few months. This surgery is 10%Physical and 90% mental. Hang in there.

    Roller Coasters!

That is one of the best NSV out there. I went to Six Flags a few months ago and rode Batman. I had not been on that for over 20 years because I would not fit. I literally teared up when the ride started.

    Well this is about Sex

Its definitely up 🤣. Now I am better than when I was 19 (I was horrible at 16). Prior to surgery I was having issues getting and staying erect. Now I can last longer and then orgasm and keep going. I have had my wife ask "Did I get you?". Never in my life has that been asked by her before. First time she said that I was all smiles.

    Fat floats!

Same hear. It's very difficult to float on my back now. My dad could never float and I always wondered why, now I know.

    Halloween Treats

My nutritionist talked recently about the holidays coming up and all the food. She did say there is no bad food, we need to take it all in moderation and to be accountable to our decisions. She said you don't fall off the wagon, you chose to eat a food that is not the best thing for you but it was a conscious choice and to be mindful and in the moment when you do, enjoy a small piece or bite, there is no need for seconds or a huge serving. She says there is nothing wrong to enjoy something once in a while, just don't do it daily/weekly. For example at birthdays when offered cake I ask for a sliver slice, or share with a loved one, I take a bite, savor it and be done with it.

Struggling with the idea of surgery

I had been Struggling at over 300 Pounds since I quit smoking back in 2008. When I quit I was @ 275 and ballooned to over 300 in months. I looked at bariatric Surgery in 2010 and actually took my insurance required classes and decided not to because of the restrictions of certain foods and told myself I could drop from the 315 i weighed at that time. In 2016 I had got to my heaviest at 366 pounds. 2017 was the year I said i was making changes and dropped to 333 I also started looking at bariatric surgery to help me, then i started taking the weight loss surgery classes again from Kaiser. After the 12 weeks of classes I had dropped to 310, and by March 2018 I was 306 on surgery day. Now I do say why didn't I do it sooner, we all end up saying that after, but I do recognize that mentally I was not ready 9 years ago. I did meet one guy who decided not to have surgery and has lost 60lbs on his own, to date and I commend him on his hard work and changes. I know that the surgery was the tool to help me make the correct choices to keep myself at a healthy weight. Good luck with your decision. 👍

    Sushi - 6 Months out

I can handle most sashimi just fine, salmon is still my favorite, followed by Poke style Tuna. Beef still gives me issues unless its ground or falling apart cooked. Same with chicken, dark meat is easier than white meat.

    Gastric Sleeve & Food Addiction

If its a particular craving and only that will stop it, its head hunger. When hunger crosses my mind i check to see if its time, if not I drink some water and wait my 30 minutes, it usually would subside. Good luck 👍. https://primesurgicare.com/head-hunger-vs-belly-hunger-difference/
  13. Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear you grabbed the bull by the horns.

    Sushi - 6 Months out

Rice is still tough for me 1 1/2 years out. When I do a Sushi joint, I try to go for sashimi if available, or I do hand rolls with soy paper (seaweed does not play nice with me) no rice, most places will use veggies as the filler. If I do a cut roll I ask for light rice and most places accommodate. after a few pieces I am set. 👍
  15. I don't see it as eating something bad. I see it as a choice to eat a high calorie dense food. The important thing is to make it a choice. It's not a slip, it's not a mistake, it's a choice. Log it into your daily food log. I'm a year and a half out, Sunday my wife wanted a Turkey Club Sub. We shared a foot long 1050 calories for the whole thing. I had them cut mine in half, and wrap the 2nd piece. I ate my 3 inch sub leaving most of the bread. The next day I took my other 3 in sub and cut it in half. i enjoyed the first part for breakfast and the other for lunch. I had 1/8 cup of potato salad with each piece, again leaving most of the bread at the end. Enjoyed a good sub multiple times and stayed within calorie range. Enjoy the Reuben! 👍

    self conscious

I feel you 100%. Its like the the whole Bruce Banner/Hulk or Dr.Jekel/Mr Hyde dilemma. What I have to tell myself is there is no Fat/Thin me, it's just me. We are our own harshest judge. It will take time to process. My Surgeon told me bariatric surgery is being performed on the wrong organ, it should be on the brain not the stomach. It is difficult for us to comprehend in our mind the changes that happen quickly, it took us years of our lives to gain and maintain a heavy weight and literally lost it all in months. Funny thing is after almost 18 months for me, people around me forgot the Big Guy. My own kids were looking at pictures from a couple years back and said "Dad I don't remember you being that big". It's like the only person that remembers him is me. And I agree, these forums do help. I go to my local support group through my insurance, we have weekly meetings and it really helps. I have been going since I was cleared to go back to work. I find it as me time, and a place I can go and talk to people that relate to my situation. If you have a local support group for Bariatric patients I highly recommend going. If you don't maybe finding others locally starting one. Stick to it, you are doing fantastic 👍

    self conscious

I did feel a bit self conscious when the summer started, by the end it did not phase me much. I see my skin as a badge of honor, a reminder of where I was, where I am and with the correct decisions where I'm going.
  19. Congrats. I am an Options Alumni as well. Hang in there, follow the directions from the team and you'll be all good. As for the Coffee you should be fine after you heal. I know people that drink more than a cup a day after surgery. Also with social drinking you should be fine. but one drink will take you a while. I'm almost 2 years out and can't even finish an average beer or margarita. YMMV.

    DDP Yoga

I am almost one year out of surgery. Besides the gym I wanted to try something new. I was looking at yoga or Tai Chi, both that have been recommended to me. Over the last few years I have seen videos on YouTube and social media about DDP Yoga. After watching some videos with my wife last week, we decided to purchase the program and give it a try. So far we like it and have been impressed. I’m only in the first week, but already my back feels better and can now stretch farther than day one. And DDP is entertaining and very motivating to follow. Like Diamond Dallas says 'It Ain't Your Mama's Yoga’.
  21. Found these for those of us on the go. Very filling even when I can't finish it, leave some flatbread. Only 150 calories and tastes good, and a great price. https://www.samsclub.com/p/turkey-saus-sandwich-12-ct-36-oz/prod17970072

    WLS and Clothes

Walmart (love it or hate it) has great deals. I get the $3 tshirts and $6/7 athletic shirts. Also get jeans and shorts for under $20. Best bang for my buck when i was shifting sizes.

    Wrong calcium

I've been taking carbonate chocolate or caramel chews for 18 months now (viactiv or CVS brand). Numbers are great. My Nut said either is fine and that citrate you can take on an empty stomach and for carbonate you have to take with food. https://www.brighamandwomens.org/patients-and-families/meals-and-nutrition/bwh-nutrition-and-wellness-hub/special-topics/calcium-supplements
  24. I plugged it in my app based on the ingredients and its 236 calories for all of it. As @FluffyChix posted above divide into servings. Personally I would swap it with tuna to save the calories, 200 is just the sardines.
  25. Rice, pasta and other high glycemic carbs. When I eat those it just sits in the pouch and makes me feel super uncomfortable and foamies. If I do a sandwich, I do multigrain bread open faced (one Slice, usually toasted).
