    100 Pounds Gone!

Congrats! , have a shake on me.
  3. Sorry, nothing surprises me anymore and I will never extend enough trust on the internet. My tastes buds were so rearranged after surgery, even if my surgeon cleared me for solid food, I would not have been unable to eat anything or I would have puked it up.

    Help!

I respect that you have friends in the nursing field, I would highly recommend you contact the nursing staff that surrounds your surgeon that conducted the surgery because they are trained specifically in Bariatrics, not to say that your friends may not be. Additionally, it keeps your doctor abreast of your current conditions as you will have more follow up appointments in the near future. Yes, I experienced nausea and stomach cramping, both were addressed with medication prescribed by my doctor and mine already sent me home with some chewable medication for nausea after I was released after surgery.

    Heartburn help please

Anytime, sorry for being so direct, but this very subject gets my blood pumping because I can not believe the inconsistency in the diets we are given and I am beginning to believe that some of us may be victim to physicians only in this arena for the money.

    Heartburn help please

I did not touch solid foods until day 35 after surgery and at day 16 I was only having pureed foods, again it sounds like you were given different advice like some others who have posted in the forum, so I attached my nutrition book free of charge to help with your issue. Another suggestion is to try the no flavor protein in this book, it helped allot for myself during phase 3. Since you asked for help, my advice is to stop eating solid foods before you cause damage to your new pouch, regardless of what people say in this forum and contact your doctor to be sure you have nothing else going on besides heartburn. Thank You BigViffer, I was extremely lucky only because I was not overweight very long, however, exercise is important and it will build the platform needed, especially for the individuals like your self that may require additional surgeries to remove excess skin. Best of luck to you brother!!

    Any teachers?

The best medicine to recovering after any surgery is to return to your normal activities and get up on your feet to improve physically and most importantly mentally. I hope you are successful in your quest for a healthier living style.
  10. I was given this, I just do not believe surgeons are approving solid foods only 6 days after surgery and I strongly believe that this is another internet troll that has infiltrated this forum or another patient in denial making their own dietary plan up after surgery. Stage 1: Clear Liquids Days 1-3 Post-Op - You can start this diet on DAY 1 in the hospital. - Clear liquids only. - On DAY 3 you may start adding protein drinks back into your diet - AT LEAST 75 grams of protein daily Stage 2: Full Liquids Days 4-14 Post-Op - All liquids must be pourable from a cup, NO CHUNKS - 1-2 ounces of water to be sipped every 15 minutes while awake - It is important to consume at least 64 ounces of fluid daily while awake. - Examples of acceptable foods/liquids: o Cream of wheat (thinned), cream of rice (thinned), mashed potatoes (thinned). Must be thinned with fat free milk or broth o Lactose-free milk, skim milk, sugar-free and low-fat yogurt (NO fruits or seeds) o LOW sodium vegetable juices o Unsweetened applesauce (thinned with water) o Unflavored protein powder, flavored low-carb/high-protein shakes o Blended creamy soups, broths, bouillon o Sugar-free gelatin (liquid state only) o Sugar-free pudding (thinned) o Sugar-free custard (thinned) o Sugar-free popsicles - Besides what is listed above, nothing else is allowed. - Start your chewable multivitamin on DAY 7 after surgery. Stage 3: Pureed Foods Day 14-35 - You may now have pureed foods. - During this stage you will learn your new style of eating. - Listen to your pouch, it will guide you on portion sizes. - Stop eating when you feel a slight pressure in your chest area. - Pureed foods should be the consistency of baby food. - Add foods slowly, one at a time, to test your tolerance of each food. - You may add protein powder to pureed foods to add more protein. • Foods allowed on this stage include all full liquids from previous liquid stage, plus: o Cream of wheat, cream of rice o Thinned oatmeal and grits o Mashed potatoes, skinless sweet potatoes (slightly thinned) o Lactose free milk, skim milk o Sugar-free & low-fat yogurt (no fruits or seeds) o Low-fat cottage cheese (pureed) o Low-fat ricotta cheese o Soft-cooked pureed vegetables, Stage 1 baby food (no more than ½ cup/day) o Unsweetened apple sauce, unsweetened or lite canned fruit without seeds (pureed), Stage 1 baby food o Pureed chicken, turkey, or fish (Stage 1 baby meats) o Fat-free refried beans (thinned) o Hummus o Protein powder and drinks o Blended creamy soups, broths, bouillon soups o Sugar-free gelatin o Sugar-free pudding, sugar-free custard o Sugar-free popsicles o Herbs and mild spices • From here on out make sure to chew each bite 20-30 times and avoid liquids 10 minutes before, during, and 30 minutes after meals and snacks. Stage 4 Day 35-999 As you transition to solid foods, this is still a time of learning. You will start this phase on DAY 35. Let your pouch be your guide on portion sizes. 1) Take small bites. 2) Chew each bite to applesauce consistency. 3) Pause 30 seconds between each swallowed bite. Remember, overeating can lead to nausea, vomiting, and stretching of your pouch. • This stages includes foods listed in previous stages, plus: o Lean ground beef, chicken, or turkey (90% lean) o Fish, egg whites, or egg substitute (Egg Beaters) o Vegetable patties o Lean canned chicken or tuna (in water) o Low fat deli meat, shaved o Creamy peanut butter o Low-fat or fat-free cottage cheese and ricotta cheese o 2% or fat free string cheese or cheese slices o Canned fruit (fruit cocktail—no grapes or cherries) in its own juice, lite, or no sugar added o Bananas (remove strings) o Soft cooked or canned vegetables and vegetable juice o Toasted breads or crackers o Low-fat yogurt (without seeds and whole fruit) o Butter Buds, Fat-free butter spray, low-fat or lite mayo, olive oil, safflower oil o Herbs and mild spices (most herbs, spices, and low calorie condiments are okay) • Remember 1 oz of meat provides 7 grams of protein • Make sure to choose a protein food FIRST and a fruit or vegetable SECOND. You may also select a starch/grain LAST if you still have room.

41.5 BMI but no health problems.....

My thoughts were the same, however, as my first confession 6 months later "I was so wrong!", as most of us will express. Although I have received multiple surgeries since I was sleeved, arthroscopic right knee (excessive weight), multiple back injections and burning of my nerves (excessive weight) and my latest gallbladder removal (because of the rapid weight loss). On the other hand today I am almost 100lbs lighter in only 7 months and no longer taking medications to control high blood pressure and cholesterol and exercise regularly and have enormous amounts of energy because this surgery resets your body's metabolism (FACT). You ask the right questions because you must fully commit to this lifestyle change and not go in it with only your toes in the water and time may not be on your side as you may think. Now all those surgeries may sound like allot, however, I was on my way to heart issues and diabetes eventually (FACT) and whatever health issue, recognizing this was important and it prompted me to take corrective action NOW! because we all only have one life to live. Best of luck to you and I hope our thoughts help you in making your decision.
  12. So I was told a few times by the wonderful nursing staff that took care of me the past few days that getting gull stones were uncommon after getting sleeved. Well, I was one the unlucky few and my gallbladder was removed because of the rapid weight loss. Still, no regrets getting sleeved, however, that **** hurt, LOL and I will be back to normal activities in a couple of weeks. The purpose of this thread to see how many others that may have experienced issues with their gallbladders after surgery if you do not mind sharing.

    Gull Bladder Removal

Through the large amounts of information delivered prior to and after surgery, the use of "ursodiol" was never mentioned. No worries, however for the record, I will correct my misspelling of the thread here "gallbladder" LOL

    6 Month Photo's

4 Months hitting the gym has reduced the excessive skin and reduced my total body fat.
  15. Yes true, I was referring more to the idiots who smoke it every day and try to sell their bs that it has medical advantages while their stoned.
  16. Fluffy, I was only passing the information as information only, that particular brand of protein shake is the only one that uses that ingredient. For example, the continued debate that Marijuana can be used for medical purposes today, how can you pass something off (a drug for medical purposes) and you smoke it? How is this healthy, when you are destroying your lungs?
  17. No, I meant "Fructose corn syrup" not just fructose
  18. I still drink them too, however, I will continue to monitor what the manufactures put in these so-called health foods because, in reality, the chemicals they use sometimes are bad like "Fructose corn syrup" for example found in sodas, salad dressings, etc., our bodies simply do not recognize these foreign chemicals and automatically process them into fat.
  19. More campaign information: Compliance Dates of Nutrition Initiatives FDA received questions about the timing of the compliance dates for its various nutrition initiatives and their impact on food manufacturers and is providing the following questions and answers. When do manufacturers need to comply with FDA’s key nutrition initiatives? The key dates are as follows: By June 18, 2018, human food must no longer contain partially hydrogenated oils for uses that have not been otherwise authorized by FDA. FDA has issued a proposed rule to extend the compliance dates for the Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts label final rule and the Serving Size final rule from July 26, 2018, to Jan. 1, 2020, for manufacturers with $10 million or more in annual food sales. Manufacturers with less than $10 million in annual food sales would receive an extra year to comply—until Jan. 1, 2021. Pending completion of this rulemaking, FDA intends to exercise enforcement discretion with respect to the current July 26, 2018, and July 26, 2019, compliance dates. By July 26, 2018, vending machine operators with glass front vending machines will have to comply with all requirements of the vending machine labeling rule. FDA delayed the compliance date for calorie declaration requirements for certain food products sold from glass-front vending machines in part to be consistent with the compliance date for the new Nutrition Facts label requirements so that manufacturers can make changes to front-of-pack labeling for products they supply to vending operators at the same time that they make changes to the Nutrition Facts label. How do menu labeling requirements impact packaged food manufacturers? The requirements for menu labeling largely affect a different segment of industry—restaurants and similar retail food establishments. We do not expect these requirements to have a great impact on manufacturers. Those establishments that are covered by the menu labeling rule must comply with menu labeling requirements by May 7, 2018. What about the targets for sodium reduction that FDA is developing? The targets for sodium reduction that FDA is developing are voluntary so there will be no compliance date. However, we are recommending timeframes for companies that choose to implement the targets, once finalized. FDA has published for public comment draft voluntary targets for reducing sodium in commercially processed and prepared food both in the short-term (2 years) and over the long-term (10 years).
  20. Great news, however, information is information whether you like or not, please do not dismiss quality information with your ignorance, perhaps you have grown comfortable blowing **** out your mouth on the internet which is another conversation. The hydrogenated oils used in those protein drinks clogs arteries and the FDA banned it, enjoy your cheeseburger drink.
  21. LOL, and their lies the most common issue amongst us, some of these drinks are absolutely disgusting and some nearly made me puke as well, getting your hands on some samples first is always a good move or take the extra step and contact the company for some. The real surprise is to what chemicals they slip into products today (DATEM (DiAcetyl Tartaric acid Esters of Monoglycerides) and you practically need a degree in science to avoid foods today.

    Weight Loss Obstacle

This is the area I get so confused because we all seem to get different nutritional diet plans and different perceptions. On the information, you provided it sounds like you have reached the pureed food stage, which was Stage 3 for my self, however, those foods I treated as solid foods, although soft yes but I did not view them as pureed, which my plan instructed to avoid until my 35-day mark. Pinto beans vs refried turn into the same product in your mouth once you chew it so I avoided the confusion by holding out a little longer because I just could not draw a logical solution during stage 3 unless the food was pulvirized.
  23. Here is some information about premiere shakes that will open your eyes. Premier Protein Per 11 fl oz bottle, vanilla: 160 calories, 3 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 270 mg sodium, 4 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 30 g protein Commonly used in over-processed breads, DATEM (DiAcetylTartaric acid Esters of Monoglycerides) is used as a shelf-stabilizing emulsifier in both dough and protein shake applications, as protein powder is notoriously difficult to mix with water. Unfortunately, this additive is often made from artery-clogging partially hydrogenated oils, which the FDA will ban from food products starting in June 2018. Premier Protein responded to us and said their DATEM is only made from fully-hydrogenated oil—but why use it in the first place, when so many others don’t?

Weight stalled third week post op

Weight loss stalls are very common with all of us, however, you have other good things going on the scale will not represent. My blood pressure plummeted after surgery and came off the meds that controlled that, along with my cholesterol medicine, in just 30 days my levels went from 210 to 145 within just a short time span. Finally, the weight stalls are good for your over health in my opinion as your body restores itself as you lose the weight, sticking to the diet and an exercise program you enjoy, not what someone tells you to do is always my advice to the beginners.
  25. Yes, I have a shake a day, only because even after 6 months, I find it difficult to actually consume 80-100 grams of protein via food, therefore I rely pretty heavily on my shake.
