Insurance was APPROVED! Revision Surgery date 5/2/18
Sammy 10-30 replied to Stacy4243's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am confused, you open with "Hey Guys", however, you only ask for ladies that maybe going through the sleeve process. -
I use flavorless protein from time to time, here is a link https://dochalenutrition.com/. I recommend if you want some to call and not order it online and let Dr. Hale know that Alan pointed you his direction. Also, try tossing a banana or peanut butter in any chocolate flavor protein to mask the taste of protein.

Cooking for family post-op
Sammy 10-30 replied to Sparkle&Storm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Great point Fluffy from our parent's point of view and practically forced behavior when approaching dinner. I believe we all have similar experiences, however, I still cannot cast blame on them. The road to recovery starts by not blaming your upbringing since eating is an already known emotional feeling and this may enable an individual to make the change permanent in some cases. However, it may not be that easy because some issues may require professional counseling to help individuals overcome their demons. -
Cooking for family post-op
Sammy 10-30 replied to Sparkle&Storm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree, your eating habits and taste buds change significantly, hell I had issues drinking the required amount of water and taking in my protein during the first 2 months. I still cook meals for my family and they feel bad when I would not eat because you are not hungry. Additionally, it is not worth feeling the overwhelming nausea feeling that follows if you decide to force it down. The best advice I can offer is to live your new life one day at a time because you will undergo a change no doubt and some days it became a little too much for myself so I followed my instincts and live a day at a time to get through the beginning stages. -
I love people who all of sudden know more than expert assisting them, it is engrained in our culture like a bad case of hemorrhoids. The doctor will have the final say so on the recommended stomach size based on the surgeon's experience.

I was satisfied when I purchased size 34 jeans during Christmas, have not seen that size since high school. Today, those jeans do not fit anymore and I need smaller ones. I agree with Javanut, the changes will happen over time, we did not get into our situations overnight and it will take time to reverse the hands of time relatively speaking. I am a huge believer in physical conditioning and can not emphasize enough, the importance it will play in our healing process. In addition to sticking to our diets of high protein and multivitamins, the two efforts enhance our desired results after the surgery.

You are very welcome!! Additionally, I needed extra nausea pills because that was a huge issue for myself for at least 2 months

Exactly why I joined this site, only had to hem up a couple of users so far, LOL

Yes, this stuff is good with 100% cranberry juice and I had positive results using this product, https://dochalenutrition.com/product/unflavored-whey-protein-canister/ . In fact, if you decide to order some, let him know that Alan recommended this to you and he will most likely give you a discount code.

Does your stomach feel normal?
Sammy 10-30 replied to logicwand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on a Monday and I was mowing my lawn by Saturday that same week, everyone recovers differently. Most importantly continue to communicate with your physician's office with any concerns you may have. -
Yes, the doctor prescribed me Hyoscyamine 125mg chewable tablets for the stomach cramps and they worked wonders.

How to get my energy back?
Sammy 10-30 replied to sillykitty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Kitty, The obvious is to constantly stick to your vitamins and protein regiment prescribed by your nutritionist. I began exercising and started walking 45 mins a day again as I did post surgery instructed by my doctor and slowly increased my walks based on my progress as I recovered. In just a few short weeks, I was riding my bike again and those rides began small and worked my way back up to 25-30 mile bike rides. Today, I lift weights 4 to 5 times a week and have endless energy, in fact, I have to keep myself in check so I do not overdo it. The best cure, in my opinion, is exercise AT YOUR PACE and try different exercises and you will see improvements and regain your strength. -
We will all tell you it gets better, and the best thing at this point is to stay hydrated and ensure you stick to your vitamins daily and you meet your suggested protein mark.

We all hit this stall, mine was in the month of December, so I made the biggest and returned to the gym and started working out more regularly again and experiencing the largest gains. Those 45 min walks my doctor suggested prior to surgery became my platform to where I am today. I began those walks again after surgery and 45 mins turned into over an hour and that was getting to much, so I pulled out my road bike again and burned over 1500 calories in those 25 miles rides and rewarded by breaking the stall. The reality is at some point to maximize the results of this surgery, physical fitness's is extremely important and you control your own pace and progression. Currently, I am working with a weight lifting trainer at 24 hour fitness, not to push me but to help target the areas visible after surgery and reduce my body fat and he is introducing workouts I have never attempted and a positive influence. Finally, my doctor added pro-botics to my list of vitamins and that seem to kick that side into gear. Hang in their and do not get to obsessed with the scale and grasp how well we feel, is the point I am making. Good Luck!

Hey Rooster, and final nice to meet someone with a profile and progress similar to my own. I am going through that now, not just with family, but with people outside my house and I scratch my head like when someone says something stupid in a public transportation system ( like the T-train in Boston). I lost the same amount of weight as you, but only in a 3 month period and the change was so suddenly drastic, I have coping issues, especially the one's who were happy to say "wow, you sure have put weight since you retired" and now they say "I need to slow down". I am pushing to my goal weight and respect their opinion always, but it will not derail me now, my mind set is in cement and nothing will stop me now. I busted my ass off for 21 years in the Marines to conform to the Military's weight standards and today I am getting rewarded for my gym visits and I am absolutely hooked and have full intentions to return my natural body weight, regardless of any one thoughts, other than one who gave me the surgery. Keep pushing Texas brother!!

Husband threatens divorce if I have surgery
Sammy 10-30 replied to Copper5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You sound educated and regret to inform you something may know, your husband needs education and presents a perspective of someone receiving plastic surgery and of greed. Wish I could give you a quick answer, take him to the church house and maybe he will see the light. My father miss treated my mother and tossed her in the Christmas tree to finalize that divorce growing up, so I always have the natural reaction to wanna kick a dude's ass when I hear of men who miss treat women, However, the verbal abuse is just as damaging, so I have to keep my emotions in check, especially witnessing this similar behavior in my 21 years in the Marines and I let em have every chance I get when they decide to open up in conversation, because some of these #$%holes openly talk about this &hit in the mens locker room. Hope the best for you and your courage takes over the steering wheel. -
Honestly, I feel humor is hard to represent here after reading some of these posts. However my take was not "Where is the humor?", I realized some people are searching for meaningful guidance or substance in this forum. Since most of us are willing to violate every privacy restriction to post our experience in this forum, I find that a maturity is warranted and leaves little room for the humor you seek.

OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE
Sammy 10-30 replied to RomAnca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today is 90 days since my surgery and nibbling on some brisket I made over the weekend to celebrate. I have no issues taking in the protein (shakes mostly). My issue is still eating actual food, its so hard to even eat and it doesn't make me feel any better when I do. Other than that I am pleased with my progress to this point and not finished by no stretch of the imagination. Completed a solid month in the gym lifting weights and cardio to maintain my strength, it seems to help. -
Probiotics is a life saver all I have to add to this thread.

Complications after VSG -First Week Status
Sammy 10-30 replied to VSG-Gal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am blown way you had thinned cream of wheat 1 day after surgery and your doctor said that was okay, I was on liquid only right after surgery and followed my post surgery diet to the letter and suggest the same. Now, I am barely eating anything 90 days after surgery. But to answer your question, no I did not experience that kind of pain, I was mowing my lawn just couple days after surgery. However, what you are describing almost sounds like gull stones. I would recommend not to wait until your post surgery appointment with your physician and get yourself back on the right track. -
2 weeks pre-surgery....very nervous reading some of the posts
Sammy 10-30 replied to ~Primrose~'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I followed my doctors advice and walked 45 mins a day to build up as much strength as possible prior to surgery, it also helped to relieve some stress. I believe this helped me push through the recovery and I was mowing the my lawn 4 days after surgery, however I was not moving fast took my time. -
OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE
Sammy 10-30 replied to RomAnca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was on 10/30 and no complications. Since this thread, my experiences are the same as most, the roll-coaster of changes from the rapid weight loss is sometimes overwhelming and I have to take a step back. -
My surgeon has yet to place any weight loss expedition upon me and I do not believe it is appropriate. That's just my opinion.

1 week post op and STARVING
Sammy 10-30 replied to cmmermaid's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No sugar coating this stage, what helped for me was reading this over and over and over again. " A clear liquid diet helps to shrink the liver and fat deposits around the stomach, making surgery safer. Studies have shown that 80-90% of people having weight loss surgery have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which usually results in an enlarged/fatty liver. This can interfere with the surgical procedure by impairing visibility of the stomach, increasing your surgery time, increasing the risk of complications, and may result in your surgeon cancelling your procedure. ". This paragraph really grabbed my attention and was very effective. -
Kind of worried - daily calorie intake
Sammy 10-30 replied to Brittanyblue's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am confused, if you just had surgery how are you eating? Are you not still in the puree stage?
