    20 years of Lies

I could have written this post. Thank you. I was sleeved in January and have taken the same approach as you. I’ve lost 46 lbs but for me it’s not just about pounds this time. It’s about being healthy and feeling good and not dieting. My surgeons nutritionist said there should be nothing in your diet now that is “bad food” or “safe” foods. She said get that diety mindset out of your head. Eat healthy. Eat protein first because that’s what your body needs. Eat vegetables next because that’s what your body needs. If there is room after you met your protein goals have complex carbs because they give you more fuel than sugary ones. This is not about what you can and can’t eat anymore- it’s about what is good for you and what makes you feel good. No more yo yo. No more extreme. Just good and healthy and moderate. Good luck to you- to all of us.

    I'm Scared

As someone else mentioned on an iPhone; I can’t figure out how to do these things- the options just aren’t there! If you know how- share!

    Eating on pre op diet

I agree with the first post. My surgeon cared little for the pre-op diet as my BMI was around 40 and as long as I was cleaned out the last two days (all clear liquids) I think it would have been fine. I did follow the rules for the 1 week diet pretty strictly but no one even asked me the morning of the surgery how it went. Only if i has had any food or drink in the past 12 hours. Keep it clean until surgery- no more cheating and be honest the morning of. They will most likely keep it on if you are good from here on out. No guarantees though. But if they cancel it’s because there is good reason.

How offen do you go #2?

I go every other day. 2 months post op
  5. Shopping! I’ve always spent time and money on shoes, sunglasses, handbags and jewelry to accessorize and look nice because those sizes don’t change. Then i wear inexpensive plus size clothes to try to pull it together. It’s a dream to go on to a normal website/store and buy a normal size on the rack...no more “I wish...”. Like that dress? Go get your size and try it on!! [emoji173]️

    Pain management post surgery

They gave me dilauded immediately after surgery and I hated it. I didn’t want anymore and they didn’t give me anymore. They gave me some intravenous version of ibuprofren that went right to the bloodstream rather than the stomach. I was pretty comfortable with mild, expected discomfort when I sat up, got out of bed or used my stomach muscles. Walking was easy and much needed. I slept fine. When they released me Day two I took Tylenol every 6 hours for 24 hours and I never looked back. Slept in my normal bed and was moving pretty easily. Good luck!

    Sample diet

I like your stall explanation. Thank you for the encouragement.

    Sample diet

Just moving on to the “all textures” phase post surgery. I have done well with weight loss so far but I’ve hit a stall and I want to be sure I get started with the right diet... Can everyone who has been successful losing weight give me a sample of your diet for a day? Breakfast- Lunch- Snack - dinner?? How many calories approximately?? Thanks for your help!!! I need some ideas!! Ashley
  10. This isn’t a bad question at all- especially because the docs don’t want us dependent on protein shakes. Ideally you should be eating food to get your protein and keeping Cals in a weight loss range. It’s a great question because understanding how to do this is exactly what the docs want us to be doing. Learn how to eat properly and lose weight. Then eat properly and maintain it. Drinking shakes is fine for the start but not a way to maintain a lifetime of healthy eating habits. When you can only eat 2-3 oz at a time it’s tough. Here is what I’m just now beginning to do as I move out of soft phase and in to all textures. Egg with cheese 150 cal for breakfast 10 grams Geek yogurt snack 110 cal 14 grams Grilled chicken 3 oz 15 grams with veg for lunch 150 cal Babybel cheese for snack 70 Fish dinner 3-4 oz with edamame or chick pea pasta 300 cal 25 grams

    Opinions please!

My doc put it simply “you sitting here doing nothing about your obesity is way more dangerous, destructive and life threatening than the risks from the surgeries I perform here”

    Soft food

normal i think. I did too. Now at three weeks I can eat a little more at a sitting. But it’s still about 2 oz max of the firmer meats and cheeses- try adding a little sauce or gravy with it if you think you need a few more bites.
  13. I’m down 33 at not quite 2 months since surgery. A total of 41 if you Include the 1 week preop diet. My doc was happy at my one month when I was at 26 down- there was no discussion of increasing anything at that point. It would be a stretch for me to lose 17 lbs in a month to get where you are though. Great work!!

    Dreams

A little. Maybe not a severe as yours but yes- I’m pretty scared about stretching my stomach.

    Food Restrictions

My restrictions were basically no raw veggies, fruits, nuts or seeds for three months and then to slowly introduce all textures. The surgeons nutritionist were pretty adamant that there are no forbidden foods and by doing that you revert to the old yo yo diet mentality. That the goal here was to eat protein first- 1-3 oz. then veggies 1/2 cup and last carbs. This way you meet your nutritional goals- the restriction helps limit the amount of carbs you take it and it teaches you to eat normally. They did say that if i was incapable of stopping eating certain foods once I was full that i should take note of those and steer clear- not because they were carbs but because I’ve recognized I can eat them in a healthy manner. They were all pretty clear that the goal was to learn to eat in moderation and to allow small amounts of foods that are enjoyed as to avoid bingeing activities later on. If i were you I would follow your surgeons instructions since they have a designed a program that works for their patients though.

    Recovery

I went back one week after. I took it easy and made sure i spent the majority of my time at my desk and i was a little tired but perfectly fine for a desk job or light work. Waitressing wouldn’t have been possible. And teaching on your feet all day would be a little challenging.
  17. Entering soft phase- had a post asking for suggestions and didn’t get any reply’s i will try something more specific... How did you all do with sushi and sashimi in the soft phase- yes- rice included in some instances. Thanks for your help!
  18. atphiladephia

    Sushi in soft phase? Rice?

I’m so sad. Not because o love rice but because i love sushi and even when I was overeating it was such a safe food for me. Low fat and high in protein and no sauces and added calories. [emoji53] I will stick to sashimi. I am about a month out now and completed 3 weeks of purees and allowed to begin soft food including all fish. I guess i will stick to only the raw fish for now
  19. I’m surprised sometimes how much i can eat and other times how little I can eat in the purée phase. I’ve heard people say they are slider foods... I am approaching the transition to soft food. Anyone want to explain their transition? Was the restriction more substantial than the purée phase?

    Embarrassing question

I was sleeved 1/9. Ever since I’ve had bad breath. I noticed first (I thought it was my husband). But it wasn’t it was me. Now my husband has noticed. Some days are worse than others. I went to the dentist- they don’t see any tooth decay and I’ve only noticed this since surgery! Ugh!!! Anyone else?????
  21. I was sleeved 1/9/18. Things are going Ok. I was only on a pre op diet for one week prior. BariatricPal liquid for 3 days. Full liquid for 1 week and now I am entering my last of three weeks of purees (thank God). I too struggle to get both my protein and my water. I am SO over shakes so that hinders my protein intake. But overall I feel good. From starting weight (before pre op) I am down about 30 lbs with no exercise other than making sure I’m walking lots. I start soft foods on Friday and am hoping to get cleared for full exercise next Monday when I meet my surgeon for a one month follow up. I don’t have as much energy as I used to- but being down 30 pounds takes a little less energy to do things so all in all- I’m doing well. Good luck to you! It’s nice to have people who had surgery so close to mine to compare notes!

    3 week stall?

I sleeved on 1/9 went through the exact same thing. Just started moving on the scale again the last day or two. I’m hoping in a week I will see my doctor and I will get approved to exercise again and begin spinning. I think that will really break my stall
  23. I was sleeved on 1/9/18. 325 start 316 day of surgery after preop diet 295 3 weeks later So 30 lbs in a month.

    Always tired

I was sleeved on the ninth and do not regularly meet my protein or my fluids daily. However what i do eat goes down fine and i have no Nausea. I am more tired because of the lack of calories but mostly feel pretty good. I would call your doc ASAP. And focus on fluids before food as dehydration is more dangerous than lack of protein at this point.

    Pureed stage...

Ugh! I’m struggling too!! Most of the yummy purée foods don’t have enough protein and I get so full if I eat them i don’t meet my protein goals!!! So I’m living in cottage cheese, yogurt and hummus. I made regrets beans the other night and that helped. I get wonton soup and just drink the broth for some hot tasty smooth flavors. I microwaved ricotta cheese with a little mozzarella and spaghetti sauce. That was ok. But yeah, I’m with you- full liquids were easier for me than this! I’d almost rather not eat. Countdown 1.5 weeks to soft food! We can do this!!
