Smoking...struggling to quit for surgery
Nagas1234 replied to vanelifejourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I must've been lucky because my surgeon only required me to not have a cigarette starting the day b4 surgery. After surgery, it was all up to me. I had absolutely NO complications and no pain whatsoever. Then again, I am a veteran when it comes to surgery. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Different doctors different stages of diet
Nagas1234 replied to camopink27's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor only recommended a 2wk post op liquid diet, but allowed me to proceed to the next stage 10 days after surgery. It all depends on the surgeon/doctor and how they run their program. Honestly, I don't know if there is a difference. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Phase 3 (soft solid foods) weight stall/gain
Nagas1234 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Anyone have any advice on the transition to phase 3 (soft solid foods) weight stall and/or weight gain? I started my transition this Friday (11 days out), per my doctor. It started with just 1 ounce of salmon (lunch and dinner) on friday, then 2 ounces of salmon (lunch) and 1 egg (dinner) on Saturday. During the Friday and Saturday my weight stalled and this morning (sunday), I'm up 0.2 ounces. I know it's not much, but I am trying to prepare my mind for the "if" I have larger gains. I also was able to increase my protein intake from an avg 50g - 60g per day, to 80-90g over Friday and saturday. Any experiences, advice or comments would help. Thank you Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Tips for social eating?
Nagas1234 replied to kaydo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You shouldn't feel as if you "have to" tell anyone about your surgery. If anything, just order an appetizer OR just order as normal, if it makes you feel more comfortable. You can easily tell them, "I'm on a restricted calorie diet," OR the simple, "I'm not that hungry." Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Smoking...struggling to quit for surgery
Nagas1234 replied to vanelifejourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a smoker myself. To quit smoking, wasn't a requirement... I just couldn't have any cigarettes 24hrs prior to surgery per the doctor. I followed his instructions and didn't have a cig until I got home after my overnight stay in the hospital. When it comes to quitting, it all depends on you and your mentality (and of course what is required by your doctor tomorrow pursue your surgery). Smoking is a vise for me... something I go to when I'm bored, socializing, etc. The way I look at, the sleeve is a massive life changing tool on its own, mentally and physically. Fighting 2 mental urges (eating and smoking) is rough. I decided to tackle one thing at a time. If it helps, try thinking of the reasons WHY you want to quit and every time you have that urge, think of that reason. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
2 weeks post op!!! What stage are you on??
Nagas1234 replied to lyfechanging's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 11 days out and starting phase 3 this weekend. On my 1st pre-op visit (8 days after surgery), the doc gave me the okay to start incorporating soft foods, but I decided to ease my way into that phase. Started out with eating a couple 1" noodles (chicken noodle soup - no chicken), then yesterday I added zucchini strips to my soup. So far so good. I am down 16 lbs since surgery day weight. Contact the surgeon who did your initial surgery and see who they refer. It's best to see a doctor who is familiar with people in this situation and knows what paperwork needs to be sent to insurance companies. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

New... Spouses reactions post op
Nagas1234 replied to Just4nise's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 1 week post op and my wife is having a difficult time dealing with my new eating habits. Prior to surgery, eating was our pastime, our social moment, our thing to do. Now (especially since I am currently on liquids only), she's uncomfortable eating in front of me, feels that we need to just stay home and that she lost a part of me that she loved (the BIG foodie). Mind you, I still prepare her meals for dinner (breakfast and lunch as well in weekends) and sit at the dinning table with my chicken broth. She says she concerned of the negative health effects, but I think it's more than that. Prior to all this, she (as well as I) and a group of friends attended the initial seminar, to pursue the sleeve. My insurance covered 100%, while hers required a 3k copay, of which I said, "if this is something you really want to do, we'll figure it out." I completed all of my requirements while she opted to go another route... to take weight loss pills. I am trying to stay positive and reassure her that nothing has changed and that I will stay ahead of my health, but it worries me. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -

7 days post op- major regrets
Nagas1234 replied to bigcat152's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am 7 days post op. It's normal to go through the emotional rollercoaster. I go through them as well. Sometimes when I feel it coming on, I really analyze the root of the issue. Whether it be, "missing the fact of eating," "missing the social aspect of food," "missing eating an unlimited amount of steak and sushi," etc. Then I think of the positives (towards foods) now that I have a smaller stomach. I can finally afford organics, buy those 4oz lobster tails and get full of just 1, fit into all my smaller sized clothing that I had packed away all these years... the list goes on. I guess what it comes down to is the initial reasons why you took the leap. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm wondering the same. I am only 1 week post op, but know that if I don't start to do my research on how to avoid as much loose skin now, the only alternative would be cosmetic surgery. So far I found that protein, water, vitamins, a collagen supplement and weight training would be my best approach to lessen loose skin. Hope this helps Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Has Anyone Cheated On Their Post-Op Diet?
Nagas1234 replied to cbchebert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1 week post op and I've only added a few noodles in my chicken noodle soup (the package powder type) and maybe a 1/2 inch (cut into small pieces) of tofu in my miso soup. Had no issues Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -

I went through Dr. James Atkinson. I actually feel great!! Some minor emotional troubles, but overall no pain, no nausea, no heartburn, etc. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I was sleeved on 1/8. I wouldn't say that I am starving... I think I just miss texture. On my 2nd day post-op, I was given broth, jello and protein. All of which I was able to hold down without any issues. On my 4th day, I added maybe an 1/2 inch square of tofu (cut up in tiny pieces) to my chicken broth and that helped. I made sure I mashed it up before swallowing though. I also add some kefir to my morning protein drink (4oz protein, 2oz kefir). So far, I can hold down about 6oz when I initially wake up. The rest of the day is between 3-5oz. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
