    April 2006 Bandits

alisonb, Are you exercising? If so, something I read in Oprah Winfrey's book--Making the Connection--said that when you start to exercise, you can gain up to 8 lbs. in Water weight because your body holds on to the water as you heat up during exercise (your body thinks you're trying to dehydrate). The water weight will go down as you keep the excercise program. Also, I think our bodies just go through phases. When I was on my period, I went from 255 to 259 in one day. A week later, I was at 251.5. Give it time--eat your Protein, watch your calories, and exercise, and it will come off. Don't lose heart.

    April Bandits Food Thread!!!!!

    1. Liquids to Mushies--almost three weeks out. I make a really good Protein Drink (Vanilla whey Protein Powder from GNC; 1 banana; skim milk; ice; sometimes I add a sugar-free hot choc. packet to give it some choc. flavor) 2. Found some really good Soups at Kroger's: organic sweet potato, cream of broc., potato leak, and butter-nut squash. They come in cartons--you just pour into pan and heat--no adding Water or milk. I usually put a little bit of sour cream in with some tasteless Protein powder---mmmmm-delicious! Oh, and I be lovin' my sugar-free choc. pudding AND sugar-free tropical flavor popsicles. 3. I really am missing Papa John's pizza! Ironically enough, I'm not missing sweets, which used to be my biggest problem! Love and peace to all, Dana

    One year out

I've heard/read that the average is 50 to 60 lbs./year. Or 1-2 lbs. per week. Could be a lot more--or a lot less depending on a lot of different factors.

Ready to cry my eyes out

I probably wouldn't have been recommended by most doctors to get the band because I do--did--have a big sweet tooth. That being said, almost three weeks out and almost 20 lbs down--my cravings have really changed. Having this band has helped me realize that my problem with food wasn't all emotional eating--it really was a great deal a physical hunger problem. I don't know what the future holds--I hope I don't sound like a silly, unrealistic newbie--but, I'm thrilled with this band so far--I'm so happy to have stopped thinking and obsessing about food--and sweets for that matter. Have not had sugar in over three weeks and I feel great! Go with you "gut" instinct. Don't let anyone discourage you. You can succeed at this!

    Weekend Weight Loss

Ok--I have a little bit of a disadvantage--my period. On Thursday Morning, I weighed in at 255 lbs. I started my period on Friday Morning. Sunday morning, I weighed in at 258.5 lbs. A gain of 3.5 lbs. I have been doing really well on my liquid diet--and I have watched my calories. I even worked in the garden for two hours yesterday, burning lots of calories, I'm sure. I may have to take this challenge beyond the weekend and weigh when "my little friend" leaves. Hope you all make it to 2 lbs lost or more!!! You can do it!

    April 2006 Bandits

I think it'd be great if we could get a definitive list of all the April names and their banding dates. I have a hard time keeping up with who is who. How many of us are there, any way? Me? Banded on the 18th. Doing ok. I'm on my period and have gained 3.5 lbs since Thursday morning. That's really depressing. I was 255 lbs. in Thurs. Now? 258.5. I know it's just water weight--because I have been doing really, really well with the liquid diet and with calories. I even worked in the garden for two hours yesterday. I was sweating quite a bit--I know I burned a lot of calories there. I hope in a few days the weight will drop off me. We'll see. Hope you all are doing well!!!

    April 2006 Bandits

Yeah!! We made it!!! We will never forget April 2006, will we? I was banded on April 18, and I'm doing very well. Still a little sore in the port area--that incision is a little uglier than the others, but I think I'm ok. I've lost 15 lbs since the preop liquid deal until now. It may be more, but I'm afraid to weigh since I started my period today, and I ALWAYS gain water weight during this time, so I'm going to weigh in about 5 days or so. So glad we made it through--now the hard works comes. Can't wait to see how different we are in April 2007. I don't have a date yet for my first fill, but it will probably be in a bout 4 1/2 weeks or so. My doc. said that he gives the first fill at 6 weeks post-op. Blessings to you all--

    Weekend Weight Loss

I'll "drink" to that!! Still on the post-op liquid phase. I was 255 on Thursday morning. I did not weigh this morning because I started my monthly "blessing" today, which always makes me gain weight. But, Monday, I'll weigh, and I plan to be at least 253!!!

    April 2006 Bandits

Found some great soups at Kroger's (grocery store in the south U.S) in the health food dept. They are all organic soups--are already strained and are so so delicious. The ones I bought were: sweet potato, broccoli, butternut squash, and potato leek. They come in a cardboard carton. You just pour the soup in a pan and heat--don't add any water. I add a little bit of sour cream to them, and boy, are they delicious!!! Hope this helps.

Yoda, I'm glad the nausea has stopped for you. Is vomitting the main thing you have to worry about in regards to slippage?

    April 2006 Bandits

Hello, April Bandsters-- Update on me--yesterday marked a week out. I've lost about 5 lbs. from the day of surgery and about 14 lbs from the day I saw the surgeon--back in Feb., I think. I'm a little sore in the port area but feel great otherwise--a little tired at times, too, because I think I'm doing too much (I was vacuuming, etc. two days after surgery--I have three children under the age of 5, and even though my husband is still home, I have a LOT to do). Glad to see that everyone is home and sound. Good luck to you all. ***Oh Telly Melly, thank you for that link to the lap band surgery site--it was quite amazing. It reinforced to me how much I need to keep with the liquids, etc. until I am completely healed. I haven't vomited at all--just a little nauseated here and there. How about the rest of you?

    Is this normal?

Thanks everyone. I must be patient! Thanks for the encouragement!

    Is this normal?

Hi, all! Three days out and feeling pretty good--thanks to my Lortab syrup. :Banane56: I haven't eaten anything of consequence in six days (just Clear liquids with little calories), and I feel ok, but I'm a little upset about weight. Day of surgery, I weighed 260.5. Now, I weigh 268. I'm sure it's from all the swelling and IV fluids, etc., but it sure sucks to not have any calories for six days, and then gain 7.5lbs. Did this happen to you? WHEN DOES THE SWELLING GO DOWN AND THE WEIGHT LOSS BECOME APPARENT? Well, anyway, onward I go, not giving up EVER. I'm done being obese. Hope everyone is well, and for those who've yet to be banded, hang in there. This is the greatest thing you will do for yourself. Love to all--
  23. danaclark2

    Is this normal?

Oh, I know--but if I weighed 260.5 on the morning of surery and in the mean time have had nothing but clear liquids and then weighed in four days later at 268--something's not right--other than this being Water weight. In other words, I have not gained 7.5 pounds of fat on clear liquids. There's no way, right? If anything, I should have lost some. Time will tell, I'm sure.
  24. danaclark2

    Is this normal?

Thanks, Kathy! I know it's just water weight--it's just hard to convince yourself of that, though.

Would I get the Band again?

Hang in there. There is an answer for you. I pray you find it soon. I know how hard this is--oh, I know. I have a love/hate relationship with food, too. It's so hard... Never give up hope!!! Hugs to you--
