Joanies not so unique weight-loss story
spayneuter2008 replied to JoanieP's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi Joanie, I really loved reading your story. I too am 5 feet tall. I've been wishing that there would be more positive, hopeful and helpful stories, and then found out that this thread had been started. I'm going to save all the stories to help me. My surgery was scheduled for Aug. 12 but cancelled the evening prior because there was some question about slow motility of my esophagus. But I have had that checked and it is normal, so I'm hoping that my surgery will be rescheduled within a week or two. I just wanted to let you know how much I liked hearing about your life. And I'm so happy to know you. Betty Dilley Germantown, TN -

Thank you for sharing your story. I should be getting my surgery date on Tuesday (Sept. 16) and hope it will be within a week or so. I have been hoping to find more positive stories. I read a lot of whining and negativism and I can do without that. I will save your story to read over and over. -
manometry -- could it preclude band surgery?
spayneuter2008 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Aug. 12th band surgery was cancelled because my upper GI test showed a hiatal hernia and a problem with my esophagus. For the latter, I will meet with a GI specialist tomorrow for a consultation to get a manometry. My band doctor said he could fix the hiatal hernia, but the two together made him want to do more testing before the surgery. My reflux is successfully treated with Nexium and has been for a long time. I have no symptoms. I am so afraid that I won't be able to have the LapBand surgery. Does anyone know anything about this? -

I'm a little confused by all this. What does becoming a friend mean? Does it mean we exchange email addresses? If so, mine is betty_dilley@comcast.net. -
Yes, let's be friends. How do we find each other? My email address is betty_dilley@comcast.net. I'm new at this forum stuff.

Please keep me posted about your sister. My age may have something to do with the esophageal problem. I'm 63. I hope that your sister is able to get the lapband surgery that she wants. I hope I do too! -
I am very upset!
spayneuter2008 replied to lynnie77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date is Tuesday, Aug. 12. I am nervous, which I know is normal. It seems like all I've been reading lately is disappointments, negative issues, etc. I would like to find a place where I can read up on the patients who have had their Lapbands and are expressing the positives. In other words, is the Band really the wonderful thing it is supposed to be? Please guide me to those types of good responses. Thanks. -
This is very helpful info. I'll take it to my doctor's office. I'm already on Nexium. I DO get very nauseous from general anesthesia. I'll mention the patch. Thank you so very much. Betty, Germantown, TN

Your weight loss is very impressive. How could she not support you. You're doing wonderfully. Maybe you could tell her it was the right choice for you and let it go at that. I think you're great. You have really inspired me. My surgery date is Aug. 12th. -
I did my one-week preop today. I haven't gotten any prescriptions. Should I call my doctor tomorrow and ask about that? I want to be prepared. How do you feel? Are you nervous?
-
I think you may have sent me a message, but I messed up trying to get it.

UUUGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! Non supportive family
spayneuter2008 replied to pstroud100's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you just have to try to detach from her opinion. Perhaps you could write what she said down on a thin piece of paper and flush it down the toilet, like a "ritual cleansing." And keep steering your thoughts back to the brass ring -- permanent weight loss. I have not told anyone in my family nor my friends that I'm having my LapBand surgery on August 12 (just two weeks away) just for this very reason -- I refuse to be a sounding board for their opinions, as I'm sure a lot of them would be negative. And after the surgery, the positives will really be nice to hear. The only person who knows outside of the clinic is my husband. He is a control freak, wanting to say "what," "when," "how," about everything. I just ignore him and keep remembering the brass ring. Hope this helps. I do understand where you're coming from. I know I'm not your sister, but I would like to say that the decisions you make for your health and well-being are to be applauded. You go girl! -
This is my 1st post. My insurance has approved me for surgery. I just had some tests done a few days ago to see if my body is ready for surgery. As soon as Dr. Woodman (my surgeon in Memphis, TN) gets the results (hopefully they will be good), I will be scheduled for an appointment with him and his staff. Then, it's preop work-up and "the beginning of my new life!" After completing the several tests last week, I realized that this is really going to happen for me. That day I started eating more sensibly and have also started a treadmill program. I feel like this is my part of the commitment to a life that is being offered to me through LapBand surgery. I'm probably older than most here. I turned 63 today. Betty

Which Friday? Friday, July 25th?
-
My doctor said I didn't need to lose any weight for surgery, but not to gain any either. I have been eating only Protein and fruits and vegetables, and have not been drinking with meals, but have been drinking a lot between meals. I still eat a lot, but am trying to eat the correct things. I also have sugar-free, fat-free treats (like ice cream and pudding and SF chocolate syrup) -- I hope that's okay. I am treadmilling 30 minutes about 3 times a week and getting up to 3 mph. I have an appt. with my nutritionist to go grocery shopping with me on July 30 (my surgery is Aug. 12) so I'll be prepared. I was supposed to go out with a group of women who regularly goes out for dinner when it's someone's birthday, and we have plans on, of all dates, Aug. 12th, so I am going to have to think of an excuse, because I haven't told anyone about my plans for LapBand surgery except my husband. I will talk about it freely afterwards, but don't want to discuss it prior to Aug. 12th. Gee, it feels good to get this all out.

I'm really new to this forum. I'm not sure I understand your blog, coolcrystal. Have you had the lapband? If so, where in the process are you? Betty Dilley betty_dilley@comcast.net
