    considering gastric sleeve

Sleeve Gastrectomy is an awesome “tool” that has helped me lose weight and not starve!!! I’m an overwater as well but having the Sleeve prevents me from doing that because 1. The hormone Ghrelin that makes you hungry doesn’t exist or is greatly subdued due to a smaller stomach pouch. 2. If you try to eat more than 2-3 ounces of food at a meal you will be extremely uncomfortable! Like pain! 3. You can only hold small meals but you eat 3-4 so you graze and don’t get hungry at all. Remember though, this is a life style change! If you don’t have the desire to make changes necessary to be healthy and at a healthy weight, you won’t be successful and can get heavy again.

    Surgery tomorrow morning

Camopink27- congratulations! You’re going to do great! I was scared too before my Sleeve Gastrectomy but it was so easy!!! I had laparoscopic so I recovered fast! I was only in the hospital 1 day although I encourage 2 days due to a lot happening at home and rest alittle tough. You probably won’t want to eat anything but in case you do, I made homemade chicken broth at home and brought that with me. It’s about all I felt like eating. On the 3rd day I started protein shakes but could only finish 3 ozs. of it. I also drank decaf green tea, chicken broth and even Miso soup. Drink as much water as you can in between shakes. I also found a cold compress you keep in the fridge helps your abdomen. The only bummer was that I’m a stomach sleeper and had to use a pillow between my legs when sleeping on my sides. I started sleeping on my tummy at week 3 but still used my soft pillow for alittle support. Best of luck on your exciting weight loss adventure!!! NewSparky
  3. I just went through similar discussions with various individuals at Anthem Blue Cross in California. I couldn’t get a definitive answer before submitting the paperwork through my chosen surgeons office. Here’s what I discussed with them upon submitting my paperwork: I submitted documentation (details with dates, length of diet plans, location etc.) In my case, I had a gym membership and a personal trainer for 6 months and I had the gym print out my visits. I also had joined Coastal Medical Group, a weight loss office and had proof of that involvement even though I only went once a week for 3 months. They look at duration!!! Even though my BMI was 38, I had high blood pressure and I snored terribly. My insurance approved my Sleeve gastrectomy 11/22/17 and I’m alittle over 6 weeks out. I’m 27 lbs lighter, blood pressure is normal and no more snoring!!! Stay diligent when dealing with Anthem. Call, call, call! Have your surgeons insurance administrator call the people at Anthem who approve the surgery coverage, with you in the office to see if there is any issues with your paperwork. It’s easier to do this than get denied and basically start over. Good luck!
