  1. I'm sorry Tricia. I am totally with you. I'd like to know where Wasa gets this Mexican Intelligence. I don't think the CIA has better connections.
  2. Hold your breath Tricia I have it not.
  3. Hello Jessica I went to Monterrey, Mexico in 2006. I was banded by Dr Arturo Rodriguez for $7,900 and then another $3,000 for 2 extra days in the hospital due to the onset of pnuemonia. By the time I got back to Houston I had no blood pressure at all in the emergency room. 4 days ICU and 6 days in the hospital. All toll I missed about $6,000 worth of work and then ofcourse the airfare to Monterrey. I thought Man am I glad thats over !!! After 6 months I started tightening the band down. I waited for a while because I was concerned after the sickness. Each time I had an adjustment there was no restriction at all. Thats when I learned that no US doctor will touch the band if it was put installed in Mexico. You can get a fill at Wal Mart and I finally managed to get an endoscopy which showed that something was very wrong. They knew for sure that my port was leaking but it looked like something else was going on. I finally had to go back to Rodriguez. He quickly determined that my band had "ERODED", and was now down in my stomach. For another $2,500 he cut the port out and then he pulled the band right out through my teeth. I have it at home on my desk. I hear frequently from a lot of people that Mexico is all they can afford and they might die without it and therefore I shouldn't bad mouth Surgery South of the Border. Then ofcourse I have to be biased, I know that and I plead no contest to it. Just let me say this, If you only have enough money for the transportation to Mexico and surgery then you need to call it off. As this thread will testify Lap Band have complications. If your insurance wouldn't pay for the band they probably won't pay for the complications either. I had one endoscopy put on my insurance and they investigated it and promptly billed it back to me. I had to borrow money to pay Rodriguez for the debanding. I'm not a lawyer but I ain't stuid nither. If I had been here in the US I'm reasonably sure it would have had a much different outcome. If that statement is wrong then none of us can afford to self pay for a Lap Band. Like I said I'm biased so don't let me be the last word. A lot of people get a band in Mexico and do just fine.Thing is you must know what your getting into because complications or more of the rule than the exception. On one side of the coin Mexico is cheaper and on the other side of the coin they are the only ones who will touch a Mexican Band. You have no legal recourse South of the Border I wish you the very Best of Luck
  4. "BURNED" Webster's defines "burned" as: Had. First person singular, past tense. El Hombre' had $20,000 USD in his hand and suddenly it disappeared and his lap band with it. Dear Miss WasaPerryMason, you are a 25 year nurse. I'd like to speak to a "recourse specialist".
  5. I agree. All Doctors are at the end of the day just fallible bipods same as the rest of us. I got burned in Mexico. On the one hand I'm clearly biased, on the other hand I'm no longer ruled by what I can afford. The difference is this, if the Surgeon has a bad day in the U.S. then he is financially accountable to you. If the Surgeon has a bad day in Mexico then you can kiss your money adois. If Mexico is all you can afford then your decision is made and I wish you the best of luck, but you must walk into it knowing what to expect.

Is this normal fills every 6 weeks

I hope that I'm wrong, but here goes. I was banded in Monterrey, Mexico in 2006. I had a lot of problems right off the bat. Pnemmonia and so fourth. After 6 months I started getting fills. Each time there was no restriction. Finally a endoscopy showed that the band had "eroded" all the way through my stomach and was blocking my intestines. I had to go back to Mexico because no surgeon here in the USA would touch me. Dr. Arturo Rodriguez ( the doctor that put the band on ) cut out the port and used a endoscopy to pull the band right out through my mouth. The point of that story is that if you don't feel any restriction, "Be very suspicious". Just from the sound of it, I think I'd get an endscopy if I were you. I wish you the best.
  7. In ancient times a lot of cultures would burn thier chidren as a scarifice to the Gods of thier choice. Thats hard for us ( a modern day society ) to imagine. Late term abortion, where the child is ripped apart in it's mothers womb seems to be on about the same order. I'll bet the old Babylonians and others of that day would be suprised that we do abortion because it's convenient and we're atheists.
  8. Dear Bubble I researched Auturo Rodriguez to the point of having a company in California that finances some of his clients, give them my Ph #. None of them actually called me. I couldn't find any stats that showed he couldn't walk on Water at the time. KPenny sounds just like me. Financially. Ok, come join me in the loosers circle. No band, No Money, pass the Oreo Cookies please. All I'm saying is think about it. If you gotta do it, then you gotta. I hope nobody else winds up like me. Good luck
  9. Warning !!! according to patrons of this form, all lapbands ( Mexican & USA ) are hazardous and will probably self-destruct, fuel global warming and wipe out all forms of humanity, shortly after thier paid for in full.
  10. We hear a lot of good, bad and ugly stories about WLS in Mexico. Are there good Surgeons in Mexico ? Surely so. The thing I try to get across to everbody is the feeling you get when your the star of this horror movie and suddenly you realize that you just got a pig-in-a-poke. Your money is gone and so is your hope. Been there !!! If you make a decision to go to Mexico be ever aware that you have no legal recourse. ( To speak of ) Choose your Surgeon well.
  11. Pet Lady Details >>> we need details. Who is this Jose and where ? Give reference material. Sorry to hear of your experience. I know how you feel I had a abd one in Mexico myself.
  12. Liveinphx I am not very popular with WASA. She's very pro Mexico. I had a band put in 2006. I nearly died from pneumonia. By the time I got to a hospital in the states I had no blood pressure at all. I went for 6 months with the band before I started getting fills. I was moving very cautiously after the sickness. The fills didn't work there was no restriction at all. The doctors here in the USA would look at me but they would'nt touch me. They were afraid of the liability. Most of the Doctors were rude about go back to Mexico. Thats where I wound up. I had to borrow money to get back down there. Back to Dr. Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey, where all my trouble started. Theres no way in hell I would've went back to him if there had of been a way around it. Dr. Rod took 2 1/2 hrs longer than was predicted to install the band. In his own words he had a hard time getting the band in. Now after an endoscopy he found that the band had eroded into my stomach and was now blocking my intestines. Most of what I read nowdays is that "Erosion" is caused by the band being installed too tight. For another $2500 he cut the port out of my stomach and pulled the band up through my mouth. I still have it at home. There was no remorse to him. Tough luck. Come back when you got some more dinaro. I feel that I could have hauled him into court here or at least he would have been concerned about it. If you make a decision to go to Mexico, beware that no Doctor here will touch you if you have complications and if anything goes wrong you loose. Kinda like Las Vagas. Let me know if I can be of more help. Good Luck
  13. Dear reocv1 I'm glad you are in good spirits after you loss. I too had a very bad near death experience, loss of money and debanded in the end. My misfortune was with Dr. Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey, Mexico. I learned the hard way that when things go wrong in Mexico you have no where to turn. Your money is gone and you have no legal recourse. I strongly advise anyone who is thinking about surgery in Mexico to picture yourself here in the USA with a surgery gone bad and all the surgeons just walked away from you because your out of money. It was totally thier fault and completely provable, but they could care less because they know there is no legal recourse. ( Not to speak of ). That of course won't happen in the USA. The Dr will honor his commitment to you because he knows you have options that will ruin him. Theres your price difference South of the border.
  14. Wasa What happened ? I did'nt mean to get us in trouble.
  15. Dear Wasa What does PM stand for ?
  16. Dear Bubble I read your Blog. Most impressive. I'm converted. A new Cos is born. I still wouldn't go back to Mexico for anything other than a Taco Platter, but I will give you this, you do seem to know your Research Techniques. Maybe I'll be nice and you can help me if I ever get enough money together for another band.
  17. Bubble Butt, Bubble Butt, Dear Sweet Innocent Bubble Butt ! You are Johnnie on the spot anytime someone gives a negative oppinion concerning Mexico. This explaines how you got over 5,000 postings. How do you do it??? You must troll this site 24/7. It must be kind of like a paid job for you. There are those of us who got screwed down South of the border. We have a right to be heard. Gracias
  18. Hello I had a band put in by Dr. Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey in 2006. One year later I had it removed due to "Erosion". I felt like a lepper around the doctors here in the US. They would'nt touch me. I could get a fill with no problem, but that was all. I'm sure there are good surgeons in Mexico and I went there because I had to self pay, but know that they will back away from you over any complications. No money = No service. I'm sure I could have died down there and been thrown out with the trash. It really dosen't make any sense to have surgery done in a country where you can't drink the water.

    Surgery in Mexico

Finally !!! We agree on something. A Harved Educated Person would never have been stupid enough to have surgery in a country where you can't drink the water: Whats that M word??????????? MEXICO. Ah,!!!, You made me look like a fool.

    Surgery in Mexico

mmh498 A Coyote gets paid. I know a couple of them. A person with a horror story about Mexico does not get paid. Don't tell my graduating class from Harvard about my spelling, please!!!

    Surgery in Mexico

Dear Bubble Britches: I'm only about seeing to it people get both sides of the story. I got milked good in Monterrey by Dr Arturo Rodriguez. If you haven't lost your life savings on something like this then you have no ideal what I'm all about. You go to your church and I'll.....

    Surgery in Mexico

Hi Big Boned I had a lapband put in in Monterrey, Mexico. I paid $8,000 to Dr. Arturo Rodriguez. I had nothing but trouble with the band. Doctors here in the U.S. would look at me but they wouldn't touch the band or leaking port. After a year I went back to Mexico and got Debanded for another $2,500. End of story. That was a lot of money for me. My Insurance won't pay for any of it. I can give you some good advice: 1. Getting a Lapband is a gamble. Complications can occur with any of them. 2. If you get it put on in Mexico and have problems, it's like buying a new car and have the wheels fall off of it. There is no legal recourse. AMF ( Adios My Friend ). There are a lot of good doctors in Mexico I'm sure. I didn't get one of them. My money is gone and I'm gaining weight. This time it was me.

    Surgery in Mexico

Dear Kat87 When I had a Mexican Lapband I didn't have much trouble getting a fill but I live close to Houston. My problems started when I had complications. A leaking Port. Erosion. Debanding. Doctors here in the states would look at it but touch it not. Fill Centers USA told me staright out that I would have to go back to Mexico. I think People need to know that up front.
