Hi Everyone. I am exactly two weeks postop and was having a lot of trouble last week with dizziness and nausea. At first I thought I was pushing myself too hard...going back to work in a week, etc. I live in NYC and walk a lot so I thought I was just doing too much. Then my mom pointed out that a few years back I had a mild soy allergy show up on allergy testing. So I stopped the protein powder for a day and felt great. So since Saturday, I have been drinking a juice based one that I bought online and I haven't had any nausea or dizziness. I am going for my 2 week floow up tomorrow and then on to mushies but I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on high protein powders or drinks that do not contain soy...since it will be a while before I can get enough of my protein through food. Thanks.

5 dAYS post op and sick
nyc6945 replied to tashelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am two weeks post op and I am having three protein drinks a day (just 4 oz at a time). I have been doing that since I came home from the hospital. My doctor is very strict about it actually. You need the protein to keep up your energy as well as to prevent muscle and hair loss. At least that's what my doctor has said. -

Dr Teixeira at St Luke's/Roosevelt was great. They have a comprehensive team that walks you through each step of the way. They have a 6 month therapy group that helps you meet the insurance qualifications and they submit everything to your insurance for you. They were wonderfully supportive and after reading other's stories on here, really know what they are doing. They give you all of the tools and teach you how to use them. -
i had Dr Texieira at St Luke's/Roosevelt. The staff there is incredible and really know what they are talking about. I wasn't as impressed with the overnight staff on my hospital stay but everyone else was amazing!

Surgery Yesterday- SOLUTIONS Needed 4 Should Pain & Few More Questions

i agree about the breathing thing. I have also been breathing into the IS and it really helps stretch everything out and eliminate some of the pain. -
My surgery is this monday, 9/8/08, but i have a scar from ankly surgery when I was a teenager. For that scar I used vitamin E gel capsules. You just cut it open and rub the vitamin E directly on the scar. It worked really well for me and isn't very messy or difficult! Good Luck!

also, my doctor, and the entire team, have told me that you tend to drink faster through a straw. Therefore, you can drink too fast and cause stomach pains, blockages, etc.
