Well Thankfully, everything you read isn’t always true! I went to my dental cleaning and my dentist laughed at me when I asked him if I was losing my teeth or if I had Meth mouth like I had read in an article. He told me absolutely not and that my teeth were strong and I wasn’t going to lose them or need dentures! He said that the only issue I had was from a prior dentist over filling my fillings, which caused two of them to break. I was so relieved! He told me to not read anything else about someone else’s experience because we don’t always know every issue they may have gone through. I do take my vitamins, my doctor checks me every 3 months. I do think it is something we should be aware of as Gastric Bypass patients, but nothing to freak out over, like someone said, that guy on TV had bad teeth prior to his surgery! So for now, I’m in great shape and will keep smiling! They aren’t perfect, but they are my real teeth! (Some crowns, that will be getting replaced by nicer ones!) -

I had Gastric Bypass on 12-1-2009 and have recently discovered that my teeth are riddled with cavities, issues below the gum lines, broken teeth, crumbling teeth, teeth turning gray, enamel thinning and cavaties under my crowns! I reached out to a friend of mine who had the same surgery about 5 years ago and she is going through the same thing! She spent over $8K last year and $7K needed this year only for her dentist to tell her she will eventually lose all of her teeth and need dentures! My dental appt yesterday he estimated $10K worth of dental work. After my appointment I watched the show 600 pound life and the guy was having serious dental issues!!! I began Googling and so many patients are having the same issues and were never told about this! Is anyone else going through this that is post Gastric Bypass? My teeth were beautiful prior to surgery, now I look like a meth addict!!!- 17 replies

Datsweetbabydoll 2 replied to NervouslyExcited's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit many stalls during the first year. Just keep pushing through it and you will be fine. Keep following the rules, don’t drink water with your food, etc.. congrats on your weghtloss so far! -

You need Protein! Protein is what makes you feel full! The rest is wasted calories! If you don’t get enough protein you will have severe hair loss and muscle loss! It’s very important! I know, I went through it too 😢 Good luck in your journey!

Not getting my protein or water in
Datsweetbabydoll 2 replied to babu1995's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Please remember that if you don’t get enough protein you will suffer with hair loss and muscle loss! I went through both! I still struggle getting protein in after 8+ years! You get tired of shakes, and I still dump even with the smallest amount of sugar! So I stay away from any sugar! Please try harder to get it in, you don’t want to go down this path! Best of Luck in your journey! -
Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?
Datsweetbabydoll 2 replied to choosehope's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Ladies! I’m 53 and I had my RNY on 12-1-09. I think I lost the majority of my weight the first 6 months, then it slowed down. As I near my 9 year anniversary, I have kept off my 150+ pound weight loss and even weigh a few pounds less now. I have no more medical issues related to obesity and yes I have some saggy skin, but not horrible. The biggest advantage for myself to being older when doing this is sticking to the rules and changing the bad habits into good ones. I used the tool to change how and what I ate daily. I still eat very little. The biggest challenge was and still is, not getting enough protein in. As it is very difficult to eat meat, I struggle this far out and have lost lots of muscle mass. I also quit taking my vitamins and I do have issues with not having enough iron and vitamin D and other vitamins. I had several difficulties in the beginning, but I would never change any of it! Its nice meeting each of y’all and may y’all have much success on your journey! -
Eat as much protein as possible. I had hairloss around the third month it lasted for about two months. I ended up cutting my hair short. But now it’s fine. My hair after i cut I cut it off and my hair now.

Needing advice about eating
Datsweetbabydoll 2 replied to VixianRyia's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I remember eating a lot of tuna and Greek yogurt I never liked anything healthy prior to surgery. Now I have fallen in love with so many healthy foods and I Control how much I eat. I still take a few bites and then walk away from my food. I refuse to go back to being overweight. -

Hi Ladies, I am 53 and had my Gastric Bypass on 12-1-09 when I was 45. It was the best decision of my life. I have always followed the rules. Not eating and drinking at the same time, I never finish a meal, I do my best to eat healthy foods over anything else. I don’t eat sweets and only drink water. Maybe once a year I have a coke. But not often. I do have the saggy skin, but I don’t mind it since I am 170 pounds smaller and have managed to keep it off. I am always open to talking to anyone who wants advice on how I have managed to keep it off for 8 years. I never want to go back to that person I was before. So I stay focused on what I eat and how much I eat. You can succeed, it had to be a lifestyle change. It’s not easy, but it is possible! Make your mind up to do this for yourself! I still don’t see myself as “skinny” even though im much smaller. It’s a mental battle. But I love my life and have no regrets! -
Looking for some guidance!!

Hi Lina! I had the same exact issues that you are experiencing! I had to get a dialation done within a month of my surgery, I couldn’t swallow water, much less anything else! I lost a lot of weight my first month because of my issues! Prior to surgery, I was a picky eater, but I was forced to change everything. I had no clue that Greek Yogurt would soon become my new Best friend! I can honestly say, it will get easier!! Hang in there as you are going to go through so many changes the first few months! Stick to not eating and drinking at the same time, eat slowly and I never finish a meal. Always remember you are beautiful and worthy of being the best you can be! And that isn’t measured by a scale!
