trouble with protein drinks
KJ's losing it replied to artchikk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had the same issue! I am now about 7 weeks post op (RNY 01/08/18) I had an endoscopy done and found out I have an ulcer. I am on meds and the nausea is gettin better. Just make sure you talk to your Dr. I still struggle with getting my protein in...a few bites and I feel like I’m going to be sick, even if it’s a liquid -
***its a long one sorry*** I am about 6 weeks out (RNY 1/8/18) and I have been nauseous for weeks!! My post-op diet instructions are to eat 3 meals a day: 2-consisting of up to 4oz of protein only and 1-consisting of up to 4oz of protein and 1/2c of non-starchy veggies. I just started adding veggies at 4weeks. Not to mention my water, vitamins and potassium. The nausea started about 3 weeks ago and I was given zofran which didn’t help. I would eat a few bites of whatever protein I was having and have to stop eating because I thought I would vomit. The Dr. did a swallow study and decided I needed an endoscopy for a better look. Turns out I have a duodenal ulcer. Now I have to take Carafate which is supposed to help. Sadly, I am still experiencing the nausea and I can barely eat. Veggies don’t seem to give me a problem and beans/legumes don’t seem to bother me much either. I can’t even stand the protein shakes I used to drink and I have tried protein water (Isopure & Premier) and it has the same result....I can’t stomach it. I have not vomited once I just feel like I will if I consume another bite or sip!!! I try my best to force myself to eat the protein but I know I’m not getting close to enough of it. I am exhausted after taking a shower like I just worked out.....it’s ridiculous. I really had planned to start strength training at this point but there is no way I can, I don’t consume enough food. Anyone have any ideas or a similar experience? This ulcer medication I’m on takes time to work but in the mean time I’m looking for some support or ideas or even some encouragement would be appreciated...I’m feeling a little low.

Thanks! I guess my nausea is related to my ulcer 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t really get it but I just keep taking my medicine like the Dr said and I’m hopeful that it will go away soon

Really struggling- 5 weeks out
KJ's losing it replied to bluegirl216's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have had terrible nausea starting at around 3 1/2 weeks out that has continued. I had bypass surgery on 1/8/18. I have only been able to take a few bites of protein before I am so nauseous that I feel like if I eat any more of it I’ll be sick. I called the Dr and was prescribed zofran....this didn’t help. I just had an endoscopy done and found out I have an ulcer. Probably from taking NSAIDS (ibuprofen 1000mg) several times a day, for years, for back pain. I just started a new medication and I am hopeful this nausea will go away because I just CAN NOT eat more than a few bites of protein before I feel REALLY sick. I know I am not getting anywhere near the protein I am supposed to get in a day and I feel like it’s screwing up my weight loss [emoji30] make sure you speak with your Dr about your nausea....just in case. Who knew an ulcer could cause nausea? I thought they just gave you a burning sensation?!? -
I had RNY on 1/7/18 and I have been SUPER nauseated for the past 3 weeks. I am having an endoscopy done this week because it looks like there may be some narrowing in my pouch. I have lost 40 pounds since surgery and I do not have problems with my back like I did before surgery sooooo as horrible as this nausea has been I’d say, for me, the PRO’s our weigh this CON

Blood thinner shot to prevent clots
KJ's losing it replied to Krista27's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had lovenoxin the hospital and then I had to give myself a shot at home for 3 days after surgery. It’s not bad. I was taught in the hospital how to give it and the needle is SUPER tiny. Doesn’t hurt at all -
Had my surgery on Jan 8th went back to work on Jan 15th (I’m a 9-1-1 operator so I sit in a chair mostly) I went to my 2 week post op appointment today and I am down 18 pounds since surgery! **I’m losing it**

I feel full after just a few bites. Everyone has such different guidelines to follow! I had surgery the 8th and came home the 10th. My first 2 weeks I am to have only puréed protein for 3 meals a day. I am supposed to try to get AT LEAST 65g of protein in and there’s no way my few bites of food 3x a day is gonna make that a reality unless I drink my protein shakes for all 3 meals and that can’t be healthy! Someone suggested protein water so I’m gonna try that, that sounds like a great option. Thanks everyone **I’m losing it**

Anyone able to get all their protein in? I am barely able to eat more than a few spoonfuls of my puréed protein at every meal. **I’m losing it**

I have done the alcohol thing but I do t think you guys understand how much there is lol. It’s gonna take days [emoji849] Thanks **I’m losing it**

Any January 2018 Sleevers?
KJ's losing it replied to VSGnewguy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Got my RNY Jan 8th and went home on the 10th. I too was SUPER nauseous (on day 2) and my mouth was sooooooo dry!!! I was having serious regret due to these 2 issues as well as being in pain. Once they took me of IV pain meds and on to oral pain meds I started to feel MUCH better. I can’t believe you haven’t needed any pain meds after the first two days?!? I have always considered myself someone who has a high pain tolerance and my body tells me when it’s time for my next dose, I don’t even have to look at a clock. I definitely still take my pain meds **I’m losing it** -
Thank you and I’m sure you will do great. Best advice I can give you is walk walk walk walk walk! **I’m losing it**

January sleevers
KJ's losing it replied to Chula_Vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How did your surgery go? I was miserable on day 2! I had dry mouth and nausea soooooo bad. Once they took me off my IV pain meds and put me on pills I did much better. How long were you in the hospital after the VSG? I had RNY and got to go home after 2 days. I am feeling pretty good. Hope you’re doing well also **I’m losing it** -
My surgery (RNY) was on the 8th and I came home yesterday (10th) Day 2 was a rough one for me. I had lots of nausea and my mouth was so dry!!!! I think it was due to the IV pain meds because once they took me off of those and gave me oral pain meds I started to feel soooooo much better. **I’m losing it**

I’m having RNY on 1/8/18!!! Let’s definitely be buddies. I am planning on starting a YouTube channel as well. Right now I’m on a pre-op diet and all I can say is thank God for sugar free popsicles....they’re the new potato chips in my life lol **I’m losing it** -
I’m scheduled for Jan 8th!!! I’m getting the RNY and my 2week Pre-op diet is like yours. 2 protein shakes as meal replacements and 1 meal of 4oz protein and 1/2 c of non-starchy veggies. I am also allowed to have a cup of broth (chicken, turkey, beef doesn’t matter) in between meals and as much sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles as I want.......Thank God for the popsicles!!!! **I’m losing it**
