Surgery/recovery room timeframes

My family was allowed to come see me in the recovery area, since the staff knew it would be a while before I got to my own room.

Surgery/recovery room timeframes

Yes, they found the leak before they closed me up (laparoscopic), so they fixed it right away. Have had no other issues since.

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+
+

One thing I don't like about losing weight: I'm losing my boobs, too! They were already fairly small for my size (barely a C cup at 400+ pounds is not exactly substantial), and now they're even smaller -- and, most annoyingly, FLATTER. Got a new bra and had to get a B cup, which is ridiiiiiiiiculous to me. Who on earth needs a B cup at 350+ pounds?!?! Me, apparently. I hope they don't get any smaller!

Surgery/recovery room timeframes

My surgery (bypass) ended up being six hours (had expected three) because of a leak that had to be repaired. I was in the recovery area for nine hours, not because of any issues with ME but because the hospital had a shortage of rooms available. So keep in mind that even if everything with your surgery/recovery goes well, you could be in the recovery area longer than expected due to other factors!

Hair/Skin/Nail supplement

I almost got those ones but bought the Vitafusion gummies instead. They're delicious, and I like not having ANOTHER pill to take.

February bypass buddies?

Had my three-month follow-up appointment yesterday, and I'm pleased to report that my surgeon is happy with my progress (even though I need to exercise more). I quote: "I wish more patients were like you" (because I haven't had any major issues and didn't have any concerns/questions).

Sneezing post-op

IIRC, I don't think I sneezed until after my pain had mostly eased. Maybe you'll be equally lucky!

February bypass buddies?

Stats first: HW 427.4 (Jan. 2) SW: 413 (Feb. 15) Last week: 355.4 Today: 353 So, down 2.4 since last week, 60 since surgery and 74.4 overall. Not much to report this week, really. I see my surgeon tomorrow afternoon for my three-month follow-up.
9. Same. Thrift stores, yard sales, and hand-me-downs, oh my!
10. Tried a few bites of pasta (protein-enriched penne) tonight. No foamies or anything, but didn't sit well. I'm sad about it, but at least now I know and can move on to trying other things, maybe revisit it when I'm further out.

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+
+

I'm here, I'm here! When I initially started the process three years ago (this week, actually), I was at 416. Lost some, gained some, then switched programs, started my new program, gained some more at first (I wasn't the best at eating on-plan pre-op) and had my highest weight at 427.4 in January. Surgery weight was 413. Down to 354 now, 13 weeks post-op.
12. If you're anything like me, you'll find a LOT to relate to in this new personal essay from the ever-fabulous author Roxane Gay about her decision to have weight loss surgery earlier this year: https://medium.com/s/unrulybodies/the-body-that-understands-what-fullness-is-f2e40c40cd75

Trying again

It's slower now than it was at first (I averaged 10 pounds a week for the first three weeks), but I'm still averaging 3.5-4 pounds a week (though there are good weeks and bad weeks).

Trying again

You're younger than me (by 8 years), but weight/height wise, you're about the same size I was when I had surgery in February -- I was 413 pounds and am 5'2.5". You can do it!

February bypass buddies?

Am I really going to be the last one to post last week and the first one to post this week? Guess so! Stats first: HW 427.4 (Jan. 2) SW: 413 (Feb. 15) Last week: 359.2 Today: 355.4 So, down 3.8 since last week, 57.6 since surgery and 72 overall. Another good week, though not as good as last week. Hair loss has DEFINITELY started in earnest now; I can tell a difference in the amount that comes out in the shower. Thankfully, I haven't noticed a difference on my head yet, though I'm sure I will. Started taking hair/skin/nails vitamins and bought some biotin shampoo and thickening conditioner; hopefully the combination will help keep it under control so it doesn't get TOO bad. Hit three months out yesterday. Over the last few days I've seen several people (friends/acquaintances and distant relatives) who commented (positively) on my weight loss being noticeable. I still can't see it for the most part, other than in my face.
17. Three months post-op as of today!

Congrats girlie! You are doing famously well!!!!! So happy for you!

18. I am having such an issue with clothing right now -- I have several pairs of capris that fit, and several shirts that fit, but very few of them match! I'm doing laundry far more often than usual simply because I refuse to buy more clothes until I'm down another size.

Woohoo! Great job!

Rant/FOMO

I was super disappointed to realize I'd shrunk out of my favorite shirt, which I'd only been able to wear a few times.
21. I have been craving catfish for like a MONTH but hadn't been able to find any (fresh or frozen) in stores. Mom's boyfriend found some today and cooked it in the air fryer, and OH MY GOD it was perfect. Totally hit the spot. Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, just as catfish should be.

Straws

At my last pre-op appointment (the big group one), we were told "avoid straws in the early stages, and then be careful with them." I didn't use straws until I hit regular food stage (five weeks out), and I have had no problems with them.

How much weight did you gain in the hospital?

I gained 7 pounds at the hospital and by one week post-op I was down 9.6 pounds from my pre-op weight.

Water intake

I've never heard of Gatorade Zero, but I love Propel and like Powerade Zero. I've yet to find a flavor of Propel that I didn't like.
