  1. I am 17 days post-op and have begun walking, but would actually like to start jogging/running again. Anybody out there jogging or running? And if so, how soon after did you start up? Thanks

    How bad is the gas?

When people mention gas - it's usually pain in the shoulder/arm/neck area and has nothing to do with passing gas. It happens due to being cut open and then being filled with air, that then becomes trapped. Scary, no - painful, yes and for me anyways, time was the only thing that helped me. I'm 19 days post op and I still have a little shoulder/neck pain but NOTHING like what it once was. They say walking, peppermint tea and gas-x strips helps but again, not for me. Good luck - you'll be fine.

    Scared of baggy skin!!

It almost sounds as if you're looking for someone to tell you to eat the foods that got you to this point in the first place - to what, fill in your loose skin - clearly you must have known your skin becoming loose would happen - keep focused and don't try to let that hinder your amazing weight loss ~ what a little saggy skin compared to being healthy? Look at it that way.
  4. Don't stress... it really is quite a simple same day in out procedure. It's the recovery that blows, but every body is different some get gas pains, some have port pains - some have no pain, but don't be scared. I, too, like you, joined the site before I had my surgery and found it to be good and bad - bc not all threads are positive, but don't let that sway you one way or the other - I am 18 days post op and feel good but won't lie to you and say the first 2 weeks were trying.
  5. not following you??? couch to 5k threads in the fitness threads - where/how do i find it?
  6. yes, all your symptoms are natural - i remember eating jello also a day or so after the surgery and it felt like it just sat there in between my boobs and hurt - this too will go away and ease with each passing day but don't expect to feel some relief for close to a week plus. not trying to be negative - just realistic. hang in there - 18 days post and i'm feeling like my old self only 18 lbs lighter :frown:
  7. hate to tell you but i'm 18 days post op and i still have gas pain in my left shoulder - but it has gotten much better and will for you. i totally understand how you are feeling - i felt like i was boderline suicidal (well not really) but the gas brought me to tears on more than one occasion. for me - nothing worked (not walking, Water, gas-x - NOTHING) so hopefully some of the suggestions will work for you. as bad as it is, once it goes, it's a distant memory and you'll be happy you opted for the surgery. good luck!!!

    Incisions

i was banded on 4/21 and i didn't shower the following day - i know, gross but i was so out of it that i totally didn't care. on the 2nd day post op, i took the bandages off (as told by the doctor) and left the sticky strips on until they fell off. bottom line ~ if you were told they can come off after 48 hrs - shower away, wash the area with soap and Water and leave the rest to time. good luck.

The over whelming calm (100lbs lost)

congratulations ~ how wonderful! you should be very proud of yourself
  10. hi all... Oh I'm totally understanding how you all are feeling and since I posted this, now I'm 16 days out and the past 4 have been better so hang in there. I too found that walking increased my shoulder and back pain and although I do still have shoulder pain it's nowhere near where it's been so it should subside and soon. I never drink from a straw although I do use a squeeze Water bottle so perhaps I'll cut this out and see if this helps any. Don't waste your money on Gas-X - I recently found that the strips/pills do not alleviate this type of gas and my doctor told me only time. I could smack him for that one! It will get better ~ hang in there!
  11. If you have a Vitamin Shoppe near you and perhaps GNC might carry it, too try Isopure. It's like gatorade but has 40 grams of Protein per 20 oz bottle. I drink 1 bottle a day or even half sometimes and between that and the other foods, you will easily meet the requirements.
  12. I wish I could have said it was just "passing" gas, mine was much worse ~ shoulder pain - I'd take passing gas any day over the gas shoulder pain so be thankful :biggrin2: I'm 16 days post and am now starting to get my old self back and you will too!
  13. forget who replies to this and CALL YOUR DOCTOR! if it is something - nobody on here can tell you better than your doctor. good luck!

    Lump in throat

I was banded on the 21st (12 days ago) and I believe the feeling in your throat is probably from your tube they placed down your throat during surgery and the pains are 2 - gas from trapped air and your incisions. All this will disappear in due time but don't expect them to go away overnight (unfortunately). I still have gas pain in my shoulder and saw my dr. yesterday for my 1st follow-up. He said this is to be expected and it needs to take its course. Walking, peppermint tea and Gas-X strips help somewhat but nothing like good ole time. Good luck!
  15. I am 12 days out and feeling much better. The first few days are to be expected - tired and weak. I found that drinking Isopure, which is a clear liquid drink from Vitamin shoppe or other such places has helped. It has 40 grams of Protein per 20 oz bottle with 0 sugar. If you can get someone to pick you up a few bottles, this may help with your energy level since you really aren't taking in any foods/calories, etc. As for your bathroom issues - I too had major issues a few days out but can say that starting my 2nd week and now being on thick liquids (cream Soup, oatmeal/grits, pudding), my habits are returning to normal and so will yours. Hang in there - it does get better.
  16. I am 10 days out and now just starting to feel normal again. Make the meds your friend as they will get you by and I too felt like you and also felt it wouldn't end but it does get better. Gas-X either liquid or strips have helped, too. Good luck - hang in there.
  17. Hi everyone... Well, I was finally banded on April 21st and am a week out. So far I'm doing okay (thanks to the help of my fellow bander and friend, Tina - who has been a joy), but I do have a few "issues". For the past few nights I wake up out of a sound sleep due to pain in my (i believe) area where the band is - is this normal? I mean I know I don't expect to be healed overnight, but the pain although not constant does occur daily and this worries me. I called my doctor and he told me I was slightly filled during the surgery and said that if I wanted to come in to have my port drained a bit... I said no and have my first follow-up this Thursday. He mentioned I have a newer band??? Anyone out there have the same or had a somewhat fill on the day of surgery? I think this might be the case since I really don't have much of an appetite and am now on my first week of soft foods (grits, pudding, cream Soups, etc). All last week was liquid, which was fine. As for the gas - my god!!! The pain I've had in my arm, shoulder and neck have almost been unbareable despite the walking I do to relieve the pain. I'm considering GasX - anybody use this for relief? Thanks, Kei
  18. Mine is pretty much exactly located at the place where Pearlygirl's is and I was banded on April 21. My biggest problem is the gas pains! UGH!
  19. im a sundevil... try the Isopure drinks that you can get a Vitamin shoppe or GNC, etc. they have 40 grams of Protein per 16 oz bottle and are really good. be careful w/ not getting enought protein... you can possibly stand the chance of having some of your hair fall out...yikes!
  20. between coolcrystal, long2bfree and my post... we've pretty much covers all bases! bottom line - it BLOWS!
  21. I had my sleep study back in July and I would say lights out were by 11 - by the time they hook up all the wires, it will take a bit of time and I too, arrived around 9 pm. This is so not to scare you but ugh - what a bitch it was to have all those wires hooked up to your body and then they actually think you'll sleep - well you do, but not well (or at least not me). I also had to have the next day a sleep latency test, which consists of 4 naps within an 8 hour day - the entire thing was not fun, but necessary - especially if you are looking to get LBS - this will help when it comes to insurance, etc. After the SLT, about a month later I went for a cpap overnight - where they put the mask on for you - let me tell you - it was horrible. I decided against the mask since it was the worst sleep I ever got. I know I sound so negative and truly don't mean to - I just want to best inform you of what to expect... Good luck and if you have any questions - ask away.

    Where's my port?

I haven't had it done yet (April 21st), but just came back from meeting with my dr. for the last time b4 surgery and he said, the port is placed on the left side by the rib cage so perhaps that's just the incision - if that's the biggest incision, then your port is there under layers of fat, etc.
  23. hi everyone... i am new to this site and am a week and a half away from getting banned. i have so many questions :confused2:, which i feel would be better answered from actual patients who have gone thru the procedure. oh gosh, where to begin... ok, here goes: 1. how do you all feel about the port? i think my main overall concern is if it's comfortable and can it be seen after weight loss? 2. despite the health results, which is of course our #1 goal, do you feel this is a do-able lifestyle? i think i'm just scared  that the thought of never being able to do this and that is just well, very scary. 3. what can i honestly expect the first week to be like post surgery? my doctor tells me i'll be home the same day and the dietician claims that i won't really be hungry the first week and will be happy if i can get down 32 plus oz. of Isopure (Protein drink), but then i read many of the post on here and am just very confused because so many have different results and although i know every "body" is different, any insight of what to come is truly appreciated. thank you and congrats to you all! kristine
  24. Thanks, gracie! Sounds wonderful is right!
