Weight Loss Expectations for BMI under 35?
Gundy replied to gully90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was May 2. My BMI was below 34 on the day of surgery. The weight loss seems slower for me than others. Time will tell! HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145 -

The riced cauliflower is a great substitute for mashed potatoes and pasta. HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145 -

13 Days Post-Op and Scale Stuck for a Week!
Gundy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Greetings! Looking for a bit of encouragement! The scale dropped 7 lbs during the first week post-op. Since the 8th day post-op, the scale hasn’t moved an ounce! I’m getting all 60 grams of protein and all my fluids and walking 10,000 steps a day. Averaging 800 calories from sugar-free Greek yogurt, tuna with low fat mayo, chicken breast, and low-fat cream soups. I feel great, by the way. HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145 -

That is the funny thing. My clothes feel much baggier even with the stall. You’ve got this figured out! Thanks! -

The Milk of Magnesia definitely works, but I can hardly swallow it. Yuck! Started taking 400 mg Magnesia tablet at night. They do the trick without making me gag. HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145

Why am I hungry???
Gundy replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My best guess is stomach acid. Are you on Prilosec? HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145 -
3 weeks out and suddenly heartburn
Gundy replied to YeahOkay31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, So sorry about your heartburn. My surgeon prescribes Prilosec or Omeprazole DR for the first three months. Would that help you? HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145 -
Getting the Sleeve with a 35-37 BMI?
Gundy replied to gully90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Gully, My BMI was just over 35 at my initial appt. It was lower than 35 on the day of surgery. The weight isn’t falling off quite as fast as others, but it’s all good. -
Not doing great with protein
Gundy replied to ewms's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same issue here. I try to drink a lot of skim milk and add sugar free Carnation Instant breakfast to milk. Adding protein powder to soups or broth works well, too. -
Hi Molly, Food getting stuck and burping are your body telling you “too much food” for the tiny stomach so soon.
-
Every time I swallow a small amount of protein shake, creamy diluted soup, water or anything, I get a stabbing pain in the area of my sternum. I’m taking small sips or very small spoonfuls. Any advice? HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 208 GW: 145

Restricted breathing, walking and fatigue/malaise
Gundy replied to HopefullXOXOXO's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Hopeful, Did the hospital provide one of the breathing apparatus to help take deep breathes? Many people said it helped. I had surgery on May 2. That feeling of malaise sounds very familiar! Mine lasted for about 5 days. The weakness is most likely from the lack of protein and nutrients. There is nothing wrong with stopping to rest! Just take a few more steps each day. It WILL get better! HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145 -

Multivitamin/Calcium/iron patches
Gundy replied to stargirl19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just put a new one on in the morning and take off the old one at the same time. This works great! -
Hi BlondieTex, I did the same thing pre-surgery. Ate all lean protein and no carbs rather than the liquid diet. The goal,of the pre-op diet is ketosis and both will get you there. The funny thing is this faves you’re craving now may not even be in your top 20 after surgery! HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 208 GW: 145

Dear TeatherMarie, So many people on this forum understand what you’re going through and felt the same way. With few exceptions, all of them are so glad they had the surgery. The surgery itself was the easy part since you are not awake. Getting to the surgery will be the hardest part for you. I’ve had 2 back surgeries, 2 C-sections, under anesthesia 2 times for dental, anesthesia for a lumpectomy, etc. After you see the care and professionalism of your medical team in action on the day of surgery, I think you will feel in good hands. Honestly, no stone goes unturned, and all precautions are taken to keep you safe. If you are still uneasy, talk to your Bariatric team staff and ask all the questions you want. Hi Abe, i asked about the calcium in the PatchMD Multivitamins Plus. My NUT said that Calcium Carbonate is a fine form of calcium when absorbed through the skin. Calcium Citrate is needed when taking calcium orally.
