After surgery, coffee made my stomach too acidic so I added a lot of skim milk to coffee when I drank it. It helps so much with the acidity. I drink decaf since it isn’t a diuretic like caffeine.

12 days post-op. Depressed and struggling
Gundy replied to StrawberryLaray's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At this point, try to forget about work for at least a week. You may feel much better next week and the week after. Don’t assume how you feel now will be how you feel in two weeks. Since you were asking for more time at the outset before knowing how you would feel, it may be a self fulfilling prophesy. If you get to the date when you have to return to work and can’t do it, talk to your Bariatric team in person. Don’t hold back your emotions. Mental Health is just as important as physical health. -
12 days post-op. Depressed and struggling
Gundy replied to StrawberryLaray's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Strawberry, The first two weeks are the worst. Honestly, I was either nauseous or starving and sometimes both. I had surgery two weeks before you did. By weeks 3 and 4, it gets better as you add soft foods and start getting rid of some of those sweet protein shakes. I couldn’t handle them either so added protein powder to creamed soups. They were filling and didn’t make me gag like those protein shakes. It will get better. When our go to comfort is food, it is a big adjustment. I’ve tried to flip the script, and now use walks as my comfort. -

Strawberry, My heart goes out to you! It sounds like you could use some help. A few things come to mind.. Have your tired a Bariatric support group. If you’re feeling alone, you should be able to find people who are experiencing similar feelings. This is an unprofessional read on the situation, but it seems like an anti-depressant would really be helpful. Hang in there! You aren’t alone! -
Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?
Gundy replied to choosehope's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Had sleeve surgery at 58 on May 2. One of the best things about the surgery is starting to feel like myself again! For many years, it felt like I was buried under all the excess pounds. As they slowly fall off, I feel more and more like myself. -

So sorry that you are feeling so hungry. I, too, felt HUNGRY, but it was actually too much acid which for me mimics hunger. After taking Omeprazole DR twice a day, the hunger feeling has disappeared.

Hello! Has anyone been told the ideal caloric intake for weight loss once on you’re allowed regular food? HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145

So sorry you are feeling awful. In the first weeks, my surgeon wanted to make certain that I took Omeprazole DR twice a day, and also Zotran whenever I feel nauseous. It really helps. Feel better! HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 204 GW: 145

After drinking the 64 ounces of fluids a day, I feel really waterlogged. Anyone else feel this way after drinking the 64 ounces of fluids a day?

MyFitness App won’t, but this website will do the trick... http://www.losertown.org/eats/cal_act.php HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 204 GW: 145

Another good source of protein that I’ve tried and enjoyed is Morning Star Breakfast sausage, Morning Star original grillers and their buffalo chicken burgers. They have good protein content and are softer than most meats. I tried eating a portion of a real hamburger and real chicken nuggets, and it didn’t go well so these have been a nice alternative. Week 2 no weight loss?!
Gundy replied to baribetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same exact thing happened to me. I know this doesn’t sound logical, but when I started drinking all 64 oz of fluids per day, the weight started to decrease again. Also, it helps me to stay at around 800 calories per day and make certain to get 60 grams of protein. Hang in there! HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 204 GW: 145 -
Hi Okayestmom, Does the Baritastic app have a scanner to enter food items based on the scan on the package of the food? HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 204 GW: 145

Love this app for logging food and water. It even has a scanner to scan barcodes for a particular food or drink. This feature improves accuracy immensely. After logging food, you can also click the nutrition button to see your protein intake for the day or the protein from a particular food. It also keeps track of my exercise or steps for the day and provides a calorie allowance for the exercise. It will accept many inputs such as an Apple Watch, FitBit, etc. One final thing that was useful prior to surgery was a complete log of everything eaten over weeks/month to bring to my appt with NUT. In order to get the weekly logs, you can’t go through the app, but need to access the site via a browser. The other app that is useful is Baritastic for the bite and drink timers. Anyone else have an issue with too much acid?
Gundy replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Moondoggie, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It is really a miserable situation. I had the same thing the first two weeks after surgery. It settled down quite a bit after I started taking 2 Omeprazole Delayed Release twice a day as per my surgeon. My third week after surgery has been much better, and now I just take one Omeprazole Delayed Release in the morning. Please let us know how your tests go! -
The Baritastic App has a great bite timer that works well. HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145
