Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
Lucile replied to Elrix's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was orginally going in for the band as well, but the nurse told me that so many people who had the band are coming back for the sleeve because of issues they had and sometimes the insurance will only pay for a surgery once so many of them are out of luck to get something else now. I am so happy I got the sleeve, I am only 3 1/2 weeks out and I feel great!! I know a few people personally that got the band and wound up getting it removed for the sleeve, so you might as well do it right the first time is what I figured. Good luck!! -
I am the day after you, 1/10/18. I lost 23 pounds so far, but this week barely anything. We are at the "three week stall" I looked this up and it happens to a lot of people, but we will get over it like everyone else did. I read somewhere to only weigh once a week now so we don't get discouraged, because the first two weeks we were losing a pound or two a day and now it will be less. I am having trouble getting in everything, the nutritionist said I should do the 3 protein shakes for the first two months and to think of it like medicine, that the food is less important at this point, that we are eating just to really get used to it again. I am still having trouble doing the three shakes and three "meals" so I am usually short one shake and one meal a day. I think I need to make sure I get that third shake in because our bodies need the 60 g of protein to keep losing I heard.

Having same trouble with cramping pains when i drink. I have been walking a lot to relieve the pains but I am hoping it will end soon! I am noticing warmer fluids like broth tend to not hurt as much. Last night it was so bad though I had to take the pain medication. I had surgery on the 10th so I am only a few days out. I do have to say each day is getting a little better. The first day was SO BAD!

January/February 2018 Sleevers
Lucile replied to breprih's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date is January 10th!! Starting the pre-op diet but mine isn't as bad as everyone else's, I can have high protein snacks and small dinner along with my shakes. I am nervous reading about how so many people were on a liquid diet for weeks! Of course I started reading horror stories about surgeon not being able to do surgery once they went in and saw the liver was too big!! I hope that doesn't happen to me!! -
How to tell a loved one you plan to get WLS?
Lucile replied to AK37's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my husband it was for health reasons. He said he doesn't like surgery but if it was something I wanted to do he would be supportive. He said if I am going to do it, to do it now, while I am still in 40s because the older you get, the more difficult surgery can be. I am not embarrassed about telling people, I thought I would get bad reactions because people would judge me for "taking the easy way out" Some people do think (thy won't come out and say it, just say a. story about someone they know that lost weight without surgery)that but who really cares? It is a tool that we need to help ourselves get healthy. Most people are really supportive. Stick to your decision, we have to jump through so many hoops by the time our surgery date comes around you are going to be super ready and glad you didn't put it off any longer.
