    vitamins? For how long?

All I've heard is that I need to take them for life. I had to laugh when I read that I needed to consider the expense of vitamins before having the surgery - I was spending $60 a month on medications for weight-related health conditions (and that was with coupons from the manufacturers!), not to mention what I probably spend on CPAP supplies.

    Hangry

2 weeks out and I’m starving by lunch and dinner, and that’s while having 2 protein shakes a day, 2 cans of baby food meat, and 2 baby food fruits and veggies, AND with 64 oz of water a day and no caffeine. I have my follow up with the surgeon on Friday and I’ll bring it up then. Would be great to advance to soft foods early!
  3. I hate to break it to you, but the shakes don't go away completely after week 2. At least for me, anyway. I'll probably still be having 2 shakes a day until I've progressed to soft foods (the start of week 5), and I expect to have one a day after then for at least the last two weeks. The good news is, my wife got me this for Christmas, and there are some recipes for shakes and protein drinks in there. The coffee one is good, and all you're really adding is decaf coffee and cinnamon. https://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Start-Bariatric-Cookbook-Weight-Loss/dp/1623157730/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1515000880&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=bariatric+surgery+cookbook&psc=1

    Gas still???? Surgery was 12/12

Just at night, but yes. Also, my empty stomach is making some weird noises at night.

    Moving bowels

I didn't have one until about a week after the surgery, but then my surgeon's office said I need to take a laxative if I go for more than two days without one. Since then I've been going every day just to get SOMETHING out, but I haven't gone yet today.

    Time off of work

My surgeon recommended two weeks, but ok’d 1 week off and 1 week of working from home.

    Naughty days?

Hell, I’m excited about being able to eat cottage cheese starting Friday.

    Naughty days?

I had a doughnut 10 days after surgery and immediately puked it back up. Just had to test the waters, I guess. Today (day 14) I had a quarter of a cupcake and kept it down. I’m tempted to eat poorly for dinner bc I’m starving, but the thought of puking up bad food is a strong deterrent for me.

    What does hunger feel like

I had mine on 12/20 and I’m already getting hungry. Not nearly as hungry as I used to, but hungry nonetheless. A shake usually takes care of it, and I’ve noticed that, if I stick to my meal plan, I won’t starve to death.

    Starting to think about clothes

Thrift stores, Wal-Mart, Ross, Marshalls, Burlington Coat Factory. Woot! and Groupon have some good deals too, particularly on bulk purchases (I just bought 10 plain t-shirts in a smaller size for $30). Keep an eye on clearance sales so you’re prepared for next season! If you’re in the Midwest, Meijer has amazing clearance deals.

    Sleeping positions

On my back, then, when I could tolerate it, on my side with a pillow to support the incision site. Now I can sleep on my stomach once more.

    Waking up in The Binder

    Looks awful.

    Waking up in The Binder

Never even heard of it. I did have the plastic inflaters on my legs to prevent blood clots - I was happy when they took those off the morning after surgery.

    Surgery, then surgery cancelled

    I think that’s a question for your surgeon/practice.

    why do people assume

I heard a lot from my family about a (now-ex) family friend who had gastric bypass surgery many years ago and how she took the easy way out. F*ck them. Look at some of my surgeon’s pre-surgery requirements: A psych evaluation - not easy Getting your sleep apnea under control - not always easy Getting your A1C below 7 - very, very hard for some people Doesn’t sound like the easy way any more, does it?

    Late December Sleevers?

That sounds like what I had on day 3, though I couldn’t manage a lot of water. It’s day 10 for me (day 1 is surgery day according to my dietitian’s binder) and I’m having 2 8-oz protein shakes and a cup of strained cream soup a day, plus about 32 oz water. Unfortunately for me, full liquid phase is full liquid phase is full liquid phase. I tolerated thinned regular oatmeal (1/4 cup rolled oats boiled in 1 cup skim milk for 5 mins), but instant oatmeal, even with more milk than it called for, was a no-go. Also tried dropping two crumbled saltines in the bottom of my cup of soup, but those game me trouble too.

    Chicago Sleevers

Mine was performed by Dr. Linn at Evanston Hospital on December 20. Do any NorthShore folks have the support group schedule for 2018?

    Non Scale Victories

One week post-surgery and 17 pounds lost, which translates to: - My belt needs to be pulled one more notch - Two of my t-shirts are too stretched out and need to be given away

    Nervous about outpatient VSG!

They might have meant it’s outpatient because you’re in the hospital for less than 24 hours. I checked in for my surgery (VSG) at 11:30 am last Wednesday and they told me I could go home at 1 pm on Thursday, so it’s possible.

    Late December Sleevers?

The dry mouth gets better once you’re off the IV drip and drinking fluids. Everything gets a little better each day, I promise!

    Late December Sleevers?

I had mine on the 20th. Pain and nausea were much worse than I was prepared for, but now things are much better in that department. I was only in the hospital for about 24 hours and had great care while I was there. Down 17 lbs so far! I also started buying smaller clothes through Woot and Groupon deals, but I’m not quite there yet (my wife also bought me a Ross gift card for Christmas). Can’t wait to see what the second week brings!
