    Late December Sleevers?

Both my nutritionist and my surgeon have explicitly stated that gummies are not acceptable, so check with them if you haven't.

Weight loss stall 3 weeks post- OP

Monday I was up a pound, yesterday I'd lost most of that, today I'm down a half pound. Today is also three weeks to the day since my surgery. I guess we'll see if the stall has started when I step on the scale tomorrow morning!

    Driving after a gastric sleeve

I could drive as soon as I stopped taking pain meds, but I don't think I drove for the first time until about day 10 or so.
  4. I've thought about re-joining WW and going to meetings since a) my employer will reimburse me for it if I go to X meetings in Y months (don't recall the specifics) and I like it when people applaud my weight loss, but it seems like I'd have an unfair advantage over other members. I also think that, particularly in the early months after WLS, you're losing weight at a rate that's much higher than what WW recommends, and may get you flagged in their system.

    Late December Sleevers?

I've been taking mine for a week and still get a little nauseated. This morning I tried chewing the calcium citrate tablet 30 times like I'm supposed to with some food and that helped a little. Tonight I'm going to try taking the calcium citrate tablet 2 hours before the Flintstones chewables, taking all 3 at once was making me really sick.

    Sushi?

    Yes, that is sashimi.

    Sushi?

You can still lose eating anything once in a while, surgery or no surgery. A few years ago, I lost weight while eating prime rib and In-N-Out Burger once in a while. You just need to make sure it’s actually once in a while.

for fun! what was your 'last meal'?

You didn’t miss out by not gorging yourself at a buffet, IMO. No need to remind yourself later of what you can’t do anymore. I had one night after being approved by insurance, but before the pre-surgery diet, where I ate a 20-piece order of boneless wings by myself (and I don’t think it was a gym day, either) and just regretted it later.
  9. Yeah, I had a few bites of Stove Top stuffing during the liquid phase and it did not go well. A month on liquids is a long time!
  10. 10 days out, I ate a donut dipped in coffee and threw it back up. During the liquid phase, a few times I put crumbled-up saltines at the bottom of the cup when I was eating strained cream soups so they'd soak well before I ate them. I didn't tolerate those very well. I started pureed/very soft foods almost a week ago and have found that I can tolerate almost anything if it's tiny portions eaten a miniscule bite at a time and each bite is chewed 25 times. Saturday I had a few bites of toast with my scrambled egg, stopped eating it when I didn't feel well. Sunday was 2 or 3 Bugles. Yesterday was two hush puppies from Long John Silver's.

    How to track water intake?

Pre-surgery, I would use the Fitbit app. Post-surgery, I drink most of my water at work and know when I've drank 2 500-ml bottles' worth.

    The Stall

Yeah, that's what pissed me off when I gained almost a pound one day - it wasn't like I ate a dozen wings and an entire pizza for dinner the night before!

    GASTRIC BYPASS OR LOOP DS???

My surgeon said my starting BMI wasn't high enough for DS, so I never looked into it, sorry. In general I'd say the less complicated the surgery, the better; that's why I chose VSG over gastric bypass.

Just got home from the hospital

Just do the best you can re fluids. Today is the first day I'm going to get 64 oz of water in since my surgery.

    C pap difficulties

I have the nasal pillows and have found they're very easy to wear when I have a cold. My wife has the full mask and can't wear it at all when she has a cold.

    The Stall

For this week and the first half of next week it'll be: 5:45 am - protein shake (made with 1 c 1% milk) 9 am - 5 oz Greek yogurt 12 noon - 3/4 c pureed vegetable lentil soup 3 pm - string cheese 7 pm - baby food meat (chicken or turkey), 1 c 1% milk That's 78 grams of protein, and my goal is 60-76 per day. We'll see what soft foods brings when I start that a week from tomorrow.

    Late December Sleevers?

Fortunately mine only makes noises at night. The surgeon said it's temporary, though.

    dreaming of rotisserie chicken

Sad to say that, so far, I haven't found a food I loved before surgery and hate now. At least, I haven't smelled a food I used to love before surgery and been revolted by it. On the other hand, I've fallen in love with applesauce, so there's that.

for fun! what was your 'last meal'?

I should add that my last meal was a) solid food and well before midnight, and the surgery went off without a hitch. I meant to ask if I could have solid foods the day before surgery, since my pre-surgery Diet was shakes and all the raw vegetables I wanted, but never did.

    November 30th

That’s my plan once I’m on a general diet - if I don’t tolerate it then, try again in a month.

for fun! what was your 'last meal'?

Oh I had Portillo’s a few days before surgery. Beef and sausage combo, dipped, no peppers, a cheese dog, and a small fry. I’m hoping to have one again when our son is born in July (there’s a Portillo’s across the street from the hospital).

for fun! what was your 'last meal'?

My program only required two months of supervised medical weight loss, and that required two visits to a nutritionist and two to my primary. I was able to complete the checklist of items that needed to be done for insurance approval within two months after the initial surgical consultation, but a lot of the items on the list were unnecessary (I didn't need a sleep study because I already knew I had OSA, I didn't need to get my A1C below 7 because it already was, etc.).

for fun! what was your 'last meal'?

I had two, one "last meal" before the pre-surgery diet and one "last meal" before the surgery. First "last meal" was boneless wings with blue cheese dressing, breadsticks, and a Diet 7-Up. Second "last meal" was bone-in wings with blue cheese, a kids' grilled cheese meal, some of my wife's poutine, and a Diet Coke. Side note: My God, the portions of kids' meals can be enormous. My wife and I went out for breakfast on Saturday for the first time since surgery and I had the kids' meal. It was one scrambled egg, a strip of bacon (which went to my wife), hash browns, and two regular sized pieces of toast (the latter two went back to the kitchen). It would have been a filling meal for me even pre-surgery. Have they gotten bigger now that more adults are ordering off the kids' meal?
  24. I really think that "you can transition to X foods on [date]" is a best case scenario and it's never going to be a smooth transition. I didn't do well with fat-free yogurt during the full liquid phase (though it's fine now) and baby food was difficult the first day I could eat it. I really need to not get so excited about soft foods starting on 1/17 since it won't be easy, I'm sure.

    Ice Cream Post Op

Yeah, nothing tastes different to me either. I had a value-sized soft serve from Sonic on Saturday (which was day 18) and it went down fine, I just ate it slowly. What would probably seriously mess you up would be ice cream with a filling, like cookies and cream or one with peanut butter cups in it.
