Not sure. Surplus of bile, maybe?
-
I don't think I was allowed it, but I drank a cup of black tea each workday morning anyway. If the issue was potential dehydration, I was regularly drinking 96-128 oz of water a day, so I wasn't too worried.

Side Effects of Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
abefroman329 replied to low bmi sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have GERD and had the sleeve - some said what you said, some said they'd never heard of such a thing. It has been terrible since I've moved to soft foods, even with Prilosec, which did the trick 95% of the time pre-surgery. This morning I made the mistake of taking my morning pills (Prilosec, 50 mg Cozaar, 5 mg Bystolic, 2000 IU Vitamin D, fish oil, ursodial, and calcium citrate) on an empty stomach and felt like my stomach was on fire! My surgeon says the GERD will go away as my stomach heals and I lose weight. The bigger issue for me was my family history of Crohn's - if that presented itself in the future, the sleeve was better if you have Crohn's than RNY. -
Gallbladder removed during surgery
abefroman329 replied to Gotalose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did not have my gallbladder removed. My parents came to visit, but I was still on pain meds and have no idea how long they were actually there (my wife says one hour, I would’ve guessed 10 minutes). My wife didn’t stay overnight, I thought it would’ve been stupid for her to try to sleep in a recliner while staff were coming in all night to check vitals and my glucose and give me insulin shots and pain meds and nebulizer treatments and blah blah blah, but I don’t think she liked being home alone, either. No one else knew I was having the surgery. -
How do you stop weight gain
abefroman329 replied to goldenbarbie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I mean, mine said to call if I gain 8-10 lbs, so I’d call. Especially if your diet actually hasn’t changed. -
My current protein goal is 80 grams a day and that is keeping me full. I did the H. Pylori treatment about 15 years ago and it would be no fun to do now. I remember part of the treatment being Pepto-Bismol chewables. My poop was the richest shade of green no matter what I ate.

That’s great! I’m not sure if my feet will get smaller, they’re pretty bony right now, but I guess we’ll see. If I look down, I can see...well, I can see.

In 2014 I had an anal fissure repaired surgically that had been around for close to a year, and I’ve been taking a high dose of fiber (12 psyllium husk tablets a day) to ensure that everything keeps moving and I don’t get another one. I stopped the day before the surgery and have been struggling with constipation pretty much since starting the puréed diet. I’d been stopped up for a few days and probably had a blockage, which passed yesterday, though not without quite a bit of straining (it was diarrhea fiirsr and then the blockage needed to go, which is why I was straining). Anyone have any recommendations? Senkot hasn’t done anything, though I haven’t tried the max dose, and I was taking Miralax when I had the fissure and built up a resistance to it pretty quickly. Thanks!

Yes, within the first two weeks of surgery. Strangest thing!

Protein shake and liquids schedule
abefroman329 replied to MagnoliaRose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’d been disregarding the advice to wait 30 mins before drinking water till I got to soft foods, and then it REALLY hurt if I drank water right after eating. Re 64 oz, most days I do the best I can. I really only get 64 oz in on workdays, and that’s if I carry a water bottle around with me to meetings all day. When it warms up, I’ll start carrying water with me on the train to/from work and that will help. -
OP, think of it this way: It’s 2018, and we know soda is bad for us, so grocery stores have shelves of flavoring you can add to water that makes it into something delicious that isn’t soda. Once upon a time your choices would’ve been Crystal Light or Kool-Aid with no sugar! I recommend finding one you like.

I called after it had been a month and it had been approved. I called the surgeon to tell them I’d completed all the necessary steps before I went om vacation, so I wasn’t staring at the phone waiting for it to ring or anything. Remember that your surgeon may not submit the request for pre-approval the day you call them and tell them you’ve done everything, there may be some lag time there. .

I started walking on a treadmill almost immediately after getting home from the hospital. I haven’t been cleared to do much more and won’t be until the 6 week appt.

Thanks, all. I took the maximum dose of Senokot last night and things were back to normal this morning.

2 Year Post VSG - Support Group for regain or staying in shape??
abefroman329 replied to KenpoQT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Check with your surgeon to see if they run a support group. My surgeon’s practice does, though I won’t be able to go to a meeting for the first time post-surgery until March. -
Yes, they’re allowed by my specialists. 2 a day at night.

I took a sip of Caffeine Free Diet Coke from a Freestyle machine on Friday night and dumped the rest out. Did NOT sit right. Had Minute Maid Light instead. I’m thinking diet soda is going to be my birthday treat from now on, but not till next year. If you miss the taste of soda, the Orange Crush powder you can add to plain water is good and only 10 calories per packet (flavors up to 20 ounces). They also have grape and strawberry.

Bariatric Vitamins
abefroman329 replied to Seahawks Fan's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yes, two Flintstones have everything I need except for the calcium citrate and the B12, which is a sublingual tablet I take once a week. You need calcium citrate such as this, https://www.bariatricadvantage.com/item/calcium_citrate_chewable_500mg/, not calcium carbonate. I shudder to think what’s happening to you’re stomach when you’re taking 3 Tums a day you don’t need. -
Bariatric Vitamins
abefroman329 replied to Seahawks Fan's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
That’s about the same price as Flintstones Chewables (definitely the same price as the store-brand version), you still need to take calcium citrate, and that’s way too much B12 (my post-surgery program recommends 1000 mcg a week). -

2 weeks post op and am eating soft foods
abefroman329 replied to joeie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The weight loss has slowed for me, but not stopped. I just added ground beef, turkey, and chicken to my diet and that is keeping me full, which is good. It’s possible that consuming a couple hundred more calories per day will speed up the weight loss. -
for fun! what was your 'last meal'?

Good post-op choice, too; eat the meat and veggies, skip the rice. -
Sleeve Surgery Post Op
abefroman329 replied to WorkInProgress2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’ve found the whole thing to be a struggle, honestly, in terms of not being able to eat whatever I want. The pre-op Diet was definitely the worst, but only because I was starving the whole time. After the surgery, it was just walking through a grocery store and being pissed off about not being able to eat the foods I was looking at rather than walking through a grocery store and being pissed off about not being able to eat the foods I was looking at rather AND being starving. The results have been impressive, but I got down to this weight using Saxenda two years ago without so many food restrictions (and then the medication quit working, and then I put it back on, but that’s another story...). It’s been a mixed bag so far. -
Problem with too much weight loss?!
abefroman329 replied to Brayrae's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Re #2, she isn’t 122 pounds, either. And “before” woman was a lot better at keeping her roots covered up. By tomorrow, she’ll tell us she’s a distributor for those vitamins. -
Yes, they sell it as their gluten-free pizza. That’s a good idea too.
