It just occurred to me that I haven't had to buy new work shoes in years - I used to wear them out about once a year, sometimes less.

Shady? Not at all. I met my wife online.

I drank my face off last month and, not only was my tolerance back where it was pre-surgery, but I actually had the energy to stay out drinking all night. Which is a blessing and a curse. If I wasn’t married, I’d probably have an addiction transference to alcohol. Or sex. Or both.

I Was Amazed When I Heard This

Hell, my primary care doc told me to eat red meat once a week to keep my iron up. -
I Was Amazed When I Heard This

If he had surgery in early November, then he’d be on a general diet according to my surgeon’s timeline. I had steak less than two months out, about half of a kid’s portion at a Black Angus in Phoenix. Not really seeing the issue here, protein is protein. -
Dumping....a right of VSG passage?

I think that’s just your new stomach not tolerating some food you just ate. -
Dumping....a right of VSG passage?
abefroman329 replied to Myhorseisfattoo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That’s not dumping syndrome. Dumping syndrome is when you eat too many carbs and/or too much sugar and feel like crap afterwards. I don’t know what this is, but I’d kill to be that regular. -
I live in the US, but will be visiting family outside Oxford for two weeks in May 2019. I’d love to attend a meetup if one happens then. Obviously I can’t speak to anything involving NHS, but the post-surgery experience is about the same for everyone. One thing I am hoping to do while there is go to Alton Towers and ride all the roller coasters I wouldn’t have been able to ride before the surgery!

Weight Gain After Approval
abefroman329 replied to anonbaribabe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I did. The results of the pre-surgery liquid diet were losing the weight I’d gained after my paperwork was completed and submitted to the insurance company (submitted in August, approved in September, but I didn’t have the surgery until December). As I recall, my last appointment with the surgeon was on a Friday, and my surgery was on a Wednesday, and I gained a pound or two in the meantime due to not adhering rigidly to the diet, but no one batted an eyelash when they weighed me at the hospital when I checked in for the surgery. -
I went and drank my face off at 10 months post-surgery and it went fine. Better than fine, actually; I had a lot more energy to stay out all night than I did before. So you have that to look forward to n

I’d been on Janumet and Invokana for several years prior to surgery. It was well-controlled with those, but my doctor warned me that they wouldn’t work forever and, when they stopped working, I’d have to use insulin injections to control it. I stopped the Invokana when I started the pre-surgery liquid diet and dropped to one Janumet pill the day before the surgery. I did get insulin injections a few times in the hospital, which I’d never had before. The first A1C test that completely covered the post-surgery period was 5.2, down from 6.3, so they took me off the other Janumet pill and my A1C has stayed there since then. The figure they gave us at the support group was 80% of patients who have been diabetic for less than 5 years prior to the surgery see their diabetes go into remission, so YMMV.

I went to Great America for Holiday in the Park the other weekend. The weather was terrible and most of the rides weren't running, but I fit on all of the rides I went on! I'm looking forward to a real amusement park trip next spring.

They won’t give you anything too intense for pain since nausea is a known side effect of painkillers and they don’t want you throwing up with fresh staples in your stomach. They sent me home with Tramadol. Unfortunately I don’t think cannabis is going to be a good option for treating pain immediately after surgery. But they won’t sent you home from the hospital unless your pain is fairly well-controlled.

What was everyone's first puree ?
abefroman329 replied to theresahyatt19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Lentil soup, I think. Then baby food (the chicken and turkey were good, the beef, not so much). Then applesauce. -
No, I have enough of my own **** to work through. Like fitting comfortably in an airplane seat when, four years ago, I watched a couple fight over who had to sit next to me on a flight from Chicago to LA. Or yesterday, when I fit easily onto a roller coaster that I was thrown off of for being too fat two years ago (and after being proud of myself for having lost 60 pounds, no less). Why would I have the time to judge others when I have all this to work through?

Huge influx of random flirting

Good for you! All that random flirting has to lead somewhere! -
Since pre-surgery men love to ask about extra inches gained thanks to weight loss... Before surgery, I didn’t, um, “break.” Now...I do. To the left, as it turns out. This may just be due to the fact that I’m wearing pants where the crotch sits higher than it used to, but...yeah.
-
Yes, you are right, “break” is something else entirely.

Huge influx of random flirting

We kinda had an uncomfortable moment recently when the woman who performs at the local music-for-kids performances, which Henry and I attended regularly while I was on leave, told my wife how cute she thought I was. If the woman didn’t look like a gargoyle, it might have been really awkward for everyone involved. -

I don't understand the d**k pics. I can't believe anyone would actually want to see mine. -
