Cream soups are filling, oatmeal is filling, yogurt is filling...Cheetos are not.

I don't like mayo, so chicken/egg salads are out. My dietitian recommended using unflavored Greek yogurt to make chicken/egg salad, though I ate a hardboiled egg at lunch and did just fine. The consistency of the chicken didn't matter, when I puked it back up, it was basically the pureed chicken I was eating a few weeks ago. Canned chili with beans is super-high in protein and I tolerated it just fine.

Favorite Snack Hacks for the sweet and salty

Confusingly, I can have nuts starting at 6 weeks, but then it's listed later in my binder as food I could have trouble with later. Nuts are just difficult to digest in general and basically any nut that isn't an almond is a little carb bomb. -

Congrats! I haven't been able to kick the Prilosec to the curb yet. -
Soup or chili. I tried chicken cooked in a slow cooker in broth and that was really hard to digest, although apparently it was cooked on high instead of low.

Nutritionist told me to hide my scale...
abefroman329 replied to JanineVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I weigh myself daily because I have a Fitbit scale and I like having lots of numbers for the graph the app maintains, but I can see how harmful it would be for some people to do that. Sometimes if I'm discouraged with a number I got on a particular day, I compare it to a number I got a week before and it's always smaller. -
Need advice from 1+ year plus

I was getting really dizzy a few weeks after surgery and finally collapsed and then went to the doctor. According to her, it was one or all of the following: 1) Hypotension 2) Dehydration 3) Standing up from lying down too quickly -
Scariest part of my surgery

Read the post again. That's not what happened. -
I tried chicken breast again at lunch today and it went OK, not great, but I didn't puke it back up, either. Yesterday my dietitian said I could also do lunch meat, that seems simple enough.

4 Weeks post op - I don’t want to do this anymore [emoji25][emoji25][emoji25]

I agree, complications are rare and even on my worst days, the good outweighs the bad. I was really mad that I couldn't order my usual meal from Sonic last week, but happy that I fit comfortably in the seat at the theater I was at before that. -
I'm waiting to get cleared to start jogging again, because walking on a treadmill is godawful. Plus I've been doing just fine re weight loss without getting more than 4-5K steps per day.

Favorite Snack Hacks for the sweet and salty

Oh, how I can't wait for the general diet. One short week from tomorrow! Between the pre-surgery shakes and the post-surgery shakes, I don't have much of a sweet tooth these days, and I get all the salt I need from string cheese. -
Thanks, you too! It looks like I'm down about 4 pounds since 7 days ago, which is frustrating when I was losing 4 pounds a day once upon a time. Oh well. It's nice to put on clothes and know that they'll only get looser on me from here!

Last night I ate chicken that had been slow cooked in liquid and it came right back up. I may have eaten too much of it, though.
-
I think it’s more “at minimum, 2-4 lbs a week.” I was not told I was losing too fast.
-
It's not about the cut of meat so much as the cooking method. If you steam the chicken breast or slow-cook it in broth, you'll be fine.

How many calories do you consume?
abefroman329 replied to Kate D's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm only counting calories because they show up in MyFitnessPal anyway. The idea of "protein first" is that, if you're meeting your protein goals for the day, you shouldn't have room in your stomach for anything else. My surgeon said you never count calories at any stage post-surgery. -
The other half of the can of Hormel chili I heated up yesterday with a packet of oyster crackers. So far this is the only form of red meat I've tolerated well, btw.
-
I (and others, I'm sure) was offered clear liquids on the day of surgery and the day after.

I feel like every week I can get down one more "gulp" at a time. Currently I'm up to 5. -
FYI for anyone who feels like they're not losing quickly enough: I saw the dietitian today for my one-month appt, and she said patients are expected to lose 2-4 pounds a week.
-
I'm not doing well with red meat in any form, either ground or cubed (the steak at Chipotle), with the exception of canned Hormel chili. Chicken and turkey have gone well. As a point of reference, last week I got a burrito bowl from Chipotle with steak, beans, cheese, and pico, and I ate a quarter of it and felt terrible, and yesterday I got a burrito bowl from Chipotle with chicken, beans, and cheese, and ate about 3/4 of it.
