  1. White toast with peanut butter and jam. Yum!
  2. Ha. "Bariatric card." I'll just tell them I had the surgery, and if they go on a power trip, I'll pull up my shirt and show them the scars.
  3. I haven't decided between ordering off the kids' menu and ordering an adult meal and taking 3/4 of it home with me. Sometimes I want a real meal, sometimes I want to pay $5 or less for my meal.
  4. Oh that's too bad. I don't know what I'll do if we ever go to a buffet again. I'm hoping I can throw myself on their mercy and get charged the kid's price.
  5. Thanks! My wife made frozen turkey meatballs for dinner on Sunday night and I thought I'd eaten too many and/or not been able to tolerate them when they came back up, but they made my wife sick too, so that bag went in the trash.

    dark colored urine

Tell me about it, I could drink 96-128 ounces of water while I was on the pre-op diet without batting an eyelash. It'll help when the weather warms up and I can drink water during my commute.
  7. Probably toast, since I'm trying to recover from 36 hours of diarrhea.
  8. Right now the shakes are pretty much the only thing I can eat that don’t make me at least a little sick. But I remember when the shakes made me sick, too, so hopefully the stuff that’s making me sick now won’t make me sick in 6 weeks.

    Confused

Maybe if you were retaining a whole lot of water on Saturday and shed it all by today?
  10. When I talked to my therapist about it prior to surgery, she suggested I keep in mind that my wife was with me at my heaviest and loved me the same as she does now, so I should keep that in mind if I'm considering leaving her for someone who would then leave me if I got back to my heaviest. That's why one of the most important pictures to me right now is a picture of my wife and me, taken when I was 60 pounds heavier than I am today.
  11. One you add red meat and a bun, it all goes to ****.
  12. Speaking from personal experience, eating a cheeseburger and puking it back up is worse than not eating a cheeseburger. It gets better.
  13. I don’t think you’ll injure yourself by laying down and sitting back up, but it’ll really hurt at your incision sites when you do.
  14. Never experienced anything like that, but I didn’t go home with a drain. I had a lot of trouble getting restful sleep on my back and was very pleased when I could sleep on my side and then on my stomach. I was able to start sleeping on my side a little earlier than I might have been able to otherwise by propping up my (since-disappeared) belly with a body pillow.

Side Effects of Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

I had GERD for 15 years before the surgery and I have it now. The surgeon is hoping that it will go away given enough time after the surgery and enough weight loss. I’m well below my weight when I was first diagnosed with GERD, so I’m hoping it’s just a matter of letting things heal some more. Other side effects I’ve experienced so far include having to get your pants taken in by a tailor, fitting comfortably in seats in theaters and on airplanes, and my wife being able to wrap her arms around me.

    Almost done with the pre-reqs

Insurance approval took about a month. That was late September. I think the earliest I could have had the surgery was late October or early November, but I opted for December 20th so that I didn’t have to go on the pre-op liquid diet over Thanksgiving and so that I could spend the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s recuperating.

    eating meat

My food in the hospital was definitely in sync. The menu said something like “bariatric post op” and it was broth, diluted juice, and diet Italian ice. And there was a note on my chart that they needed to check with the nurse before serving it to me.

    Drinking

I’m not sure what I’ll drink if I start again. Beer and carbonated mixers are out, wine makes me sleepy, and I can’t drink martinis for several hours.
  19. So far the only med I’ve stopped completely is the Farxiga/Invokana (I used to switch between the two based on which one Caremark was gonna cover that year). For the Cozaar, the Bystolic, and the Janumet, I’ve just cut the dosage in half. But I have my annual physical in a month and hopefully some go away then. Once upon a time I was taking Tribenzor for my systolic, which is 3 medicines in one, so to go from that to one pill is nothing to sneeze at. Plus I’m no longer taking any diuretics, which means I don’t have to get up in the middle of the night to pee any more. Between the new vitamins/supplements and the addition of the anti-gallstone medication, I’m probably taking more pills than I was prior to surgery, which is disappointing.

    Late December Sleevers?

Sounds like your scale hates you.

What lunch looks like- 6weeks 2 days post op

    1) You're 8 days out from surgery and you're eating things you shouldn't be eating 8 months out 2) Prior to surgery, you were talking a really big game about how you were gonna stick to your recommended diet and looking down your nose at people who don't.

Try ground turkey or chicken and make sure you're using a moist cooking method..

    When will I see it??

It’ll take you longer to notice because you see yourself every day. I think it’s a little easier for men because we wear belts to hold up our pants and one day you notice you can pull it an extra notch. Or that you’ve run out of notches and need a smaller one.

    Late December Sleevers?

You’re supposed to be able to eat 4 oz of solid food at a time (2 oz protein and 2 oz fruit/vegetables). Have you tried replacing the batteries in your scale?

It was 5 weeks for me yesterday. Had my 4-week follow-up with the dietitian, that went well. Can not wait for General Diet next week!
