I will drink about 8 oz of soda a day at most, but try to stay clear. I swear Jarritos/Mexican Squirt/etc. have higher carbonation and make me feel worse, though. Also, I can drink beer without any issues. A lot of beer. Though I haven't tried chugging, funneling, or shotgunning since my surgery.

Dress shirts that are long enough to go over stomach and not come out of pants
abefroman329 replied to jmabry's topic in The Guys’ Room
I would give it a good 9-12 months after surgery before I bought any non-disposable clothing. I made the mistake of buying a suit mid-weight-loss-journey that I never actually wore. -
Baby Due a Month After Hubby's Surgery Date
abefroman329 replied to Amanda Hammock's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats! He should be fine, the baby will be too little to affect his lifting restrictions. -
Oh, and swim classes with my son and not having any more of a dad bod than the other dads in the class.

Usual travel stuff, fitting comfortably in a coach seat on an airplane, wrapping a hotel towel around my waist, etc. but also, a 22-year-old woman hit on me at a bar. Humblebrag, I know, but that **** didn’t happen when I was 22. Also, to a lesser extent, I was able to walk through a crowded bar without issue. And I can’t rest my beer glass on my belly any more.

Hi all - I'm turning the big 4-0 at the end of the month and part of my celebration is gonna be a birthday dinner at Fogo de Chao because, well, not everyone at the party had WLS. Has anyone had luck negotiating the kids' price at a Fogo de Chao or Texas de Brasil? I don't have one of those "I had WLS" cards, I don't think my surgeon hands them out, and I did have some luck negotiating the kids' rate for Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe it would help to call the manager beforehand? Maybe I'm being cheap (though I would save 30 damn dollars, which is nothing to sneeze at).

Yeah, this is the best. Also, being able to stay up drinking all night like I was a 20-year-old.

Bariatric Patches for Gastric Sleeve
abefroman329 replied to Sally J's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My dietitian said there wasn't enough research to support the effectiveness of patches yet, so advised against them. The only vitamin I hated taking in pill form was calcium, and I like the Kirkland gummies just fine. -
These days 2 years is more common than 1 year. Although you should be able to get AD&D until it's been 2 years since your surgery.

Yeah, I was planning some upcoming business travel and was offered a cheap upgrade to first class and thought “...but do I NEED it?” I’ve been on two flights post-surgery where I’ve been in the middle seat and it’s been...well, maybe not comfortable, but not horrible, either.

Baby food. The chicken and turkey were good, the beef was gross. I think I tried mashed bananas and that was gross. Baby food applesauce was OK, though. There was some sort of lentil soup recipe in here that I made and pureed, that worked well too. https://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Start-Bariatric-Cookbook-Weight-Loss/dp/1623157730/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1551818288&sr=8-2

I Survived Eating On A Two Week Cruise
abefroman329 replied to GradyCat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats! We traveled on Cunard a few months before my surgery and I would have thought it’d be easy to keep on track on that cruise line because the portions in the main dining room were small and even the “buffet” was more of a cafeteria without a lot of serve-yourself options. Unfortunately the cruise lines that cater mainly to Americans are UNBELIEVABLY food-oriented. -
Oh yeah, I had to have my picture retaken for my DL about 3 months after surgery, and now it doesn't look like me again! Haven't heard a word about my passport photo yet.

Was there a pivotal moment that made you say I’m doing this?
abefroman329 replied to Imnotpicky's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Seeing videos of my brother taking his daughter to swimming lessons and realizing I’d really miss out if I couldn’t bring our (then-hypothetical) child to swimming lessons. -
Guys Room, ladies. I started drinking pop again and probably never should have. I drink much less than I used to, but now I drink the regular stuff because I figure it's not as bad for me now (which probably isn't accurate).

After surgery, ever eat food you shouldn’t?
abefroman329 replied to Bluebird_'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, all the time; unfortunately I have learned that I can, once again, eat an entire pint of ice cream in one sitting with no ill effects. However, most of the time, even if I do eat poorly, it's far less than I could eat before - I had to laugh at myself the other weekend when I ate a single cheeseburger and 5-6 French fries from Culver's and afterwards went "ugh, I feel like such a pig now!" -
High fat foods don't make me dump, just foods that are high in sugar and/or carbs.

Yes, I gained inches (maybe girth too) and no longer have trouble maintaining an erection.

Blood Pressure Medicine And CPAP Use After Surgery
abefroman329 replied to Trellunit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It depends highly on the patient. Re BP meds, I am still on a very low dose of Cozaar, where once I was on a high-octane cocktail of 4 BP meds. Re CPAP, I still have sleep apnea that needs to be treated, but I may be able to use a mouth guard instead of a CPAP (I'll have a sleep study to confirm that in March or April). -
Dress shirts that are long enough to go over stomach and not come out of pants

I’d also go to a Men’s Wearhouse or Brooks Brothers just to get your neck measured. -

You don’t need to go to big and tall stores any more. Burlington Coat Factory has some nice inexpensive dress shirts in various sizes. So does Walmart. -
The statistic I got is that your diabetes has a 90% chance of going into remission if you have the surgery less than 5 years after getting diabetes. My surgery was about 4 years from my type II diagnosis (I have no idea how long I’d had it, it was the first physical I’d had in a decade) and mine has been in remission since 2 or 3 months after surgery.

It should go without saying that, post-surgery, chugging/funneling/shotgunning and the like are out.

Flying after sleeve...what’s allowed on the plane?
abefroman329 replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah, powdered Crystal Light can go through the checkpoint, and then you can mix it with tap water from a fountain (more and more airports seem to have those water fountains that dispense water vertically into water bottles). I don't know that I've been on a flight post-surgery that had a full meal service, although I seem to recall being able to polish off a box of cheese and crackers for sale on American about two months post-surgery. Of all the places I've tried to find post-surgery-appropriate food, airports are probably the most challenging.
