  1. I had the exact same thing. I was HANGRY all day long and miserable about it. Around 3 weeks in, after eating puréed foods and more diverse options, it went away. The use of pain medication after surgery can lessen hunger, and some people might be on them longer than others. After I stopped mine (3 days in), hunger hit me hard. That could contribute to some having less hunger than others- just a thought. My APRN also told me RNY patients tend to have less hunger after surgery than sleevies. I don't know how true it is, but I definitely asked why I was so hungry and she said it was normal and common. There's so many variables involved in our journeys and it's so different for everyone-- but trust me on this, you're not alone!

Mason Jar Lunch on the Run

Smaller jars would work too. I love this idea. I'm a month out from my surgery and I can't wait to eat salad again.

    BMI under 40

Ha! I love it. Good luck with your surgery!!
  4. Love Kimberly H and Chemistry Queen! I'd like to add Clusie and Short Sleeved T -- very informative, relatable and entertaining! I love watching these videos and seeing their transformation over time. It's so inspirational.

One consequence of having a gastric sleeve...

Well, once you become a zombie you won't have to worry about meeting your protein requirements since that's pretty much all you'll be eating lol.

    Observing others

Someone once suggested to me that I should get surgery-- back when I was a size 10/12. Yeah-- I really had to restrain myself.... I think my eye was twitching when I told her that there is no way I'd qualify, and then she insisted that I would. Luckily I considered the source and laughed it off, but it was infuriating. Unless it's your BEST friend, I wouldn't say anything even remotely suggesting it. I think a lot of people are in denial and would be majorly insulted, especially if a stranger or casual friend mentioned it. Your best intentions don't always lead to great decisions! LOL

What's the story behind your profile name?

I want to get back into sports/athletic activities that I used to do when I was thinner and in better shape. Just being able to participate would be a big win for me, so I'm getting sleeved 2 win!

    Help!

I eat scrambled egg (as in, one egg) all the time. It never looks like enough but then it ends up being just right. I'm guessing your eyes are bigger than your (recently shrunken) stomach. I have to remind myself often to treat my body gently. You're not alone in making a mistake now and again. I hope you feel better soon! You'll be okay! Maybe take it easy the rest of the day.

    Where is my period?

    Got it!!!! FINALLY!!!
  10. TMI-- my period has gone missing! I am definitely not pregnant. But it's normally very much on schedule and it's about a week late now. I had it before my surgery (surgery date 1/3). I was on a liquid diet at that time, I feel like if I had it then, I should have it now. I've been following the doctors instructions, getting in 70-80 grams of protein and 54-64 oz of water a day. I'm eating around 700-800 calories a day. I don't feel like I'm starving myself. Anyone else experience no period after surgery?
  11. How frustrating! Maybe aim for 1000-1200 cals a day. It sounds counterproductive but I agree with that others that a stall can be broken by eating more. If you're already eating your 80 g of protein, which is plenty, add calories with fruits, veggies and healthy carbs. All carbs are not created equal, and they aren't all bad. Healthy fats are good too. Some easy ideas: Make some roasted veggies in the oven with a little EVOO, salt and pepper. Cut up onions, potatoes, add cauliflower, brussel sprouts, carrots, etc. make sure you're still only eating 1/2-1 cup at a time. Add avocado to anything for a calorie and healthy fat boost. I've always liked to wrap deli turkey and cheese in an avocado slice and eat it like a wrap. Have a chai or coffee latte with skim or reduced fat milk. Add a sugar free "pump" for flavor if needed. Have some fruit. Add a little Greek yogurt or chocolate hummus as a dip. Adding 200 cals a day might make the difference you're looking for. Good luck!

    No Flavor Protein Powder

Yeah it has a very slight jello aftertaste in fruity drinks or Tru lemon. In coffee it's 100% undetectable. I read reviews before I bought it and most people have had great things to say. It might not be a perfect protein supplement but I like it and I'll take my chances.
  13. My mom would do this all the time. Bring bags of candy, twinkles, pie to my house when I would be on weight watchers or trying to lose weight. So I would say "thank you for the thought" and throw them away in front of her. The first time I did it the look on her face was priceless and eventually she stopped bringing them by. In fact, she started bringing healthy foods like bags of salad and carrots. I had to lay down strict boundaries because asking her not to do that sort of thing fell on deaf ears. You might be in the same situation. If I were you, I would make sure your MIL knows those cakes were donated. Be sure to thank her for the thought, and then say how happy the donation people looked when they saw you coming. That way, at least you're being nice, you're acknowledging that she was trying to do a nice thing, but also making it clear that you're not keeping that food in the house anymore. This looks very passive aggressive to me.

    No Flavor Protein Powder

Vital proteins collagen protein is the best. And you can't detect it in most anything. Compared to others it's like magic.
  15. French fries, grilled chicken sandwiches, buffalo wings, basically any pub food. And salads with way too much dressing.
  16. You sound really busy, spread thin, and usually doing the best you can. Don't beat yourself up so much!! There's no guilt necessary. You're farther on this journey than I am, and maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but I think you should be proud of how far you've come. Do your best to fit in yoga when you have time, at home or Otherwise-- yoga should be relaxing you, not stressing you out! Lol I seriously use my gym membership sparingly and the way I see it, if I go twice a month, I'm already getting my money's worth (it's $20/month or $10 1 day visitor pass). I usually go more than that, but I don't stress when I can't make it. I'm crazy busy too, early morning to late evenings and when I go it's usually late at night but hey, if I'm up to it I go. I look for exercise other ways. Taking the stairs, parking at the far lot at work, standing up and doing housework instead of watching TV. I can get 8,000 steps a day without stepping foot in the gym. You can do this! Stay positive!! You got a lot going for you!!

    The first poo

Wanda I'm crying!!! This is hilarious-- same here girl!
  18. I was scared out of my mind the week leading up to it, and I almost bowed out but I ended up doing something that eased my mind that may not work for everyone. I watched the surgery on YouTube a few times -- not for the faint of heart. But for me, seeing it play out live, seeing the technique, hearing the surgeon as he carefully described every detail, helped. Made me feel like I understood exactly what was going to happen to me. I felt informed and it gave me a sense of control, in a weird way. If you like medical videos, give it a try. If not, definitely don't lol...
  19. I was given the same detailed instructions but mine were very different than what I've read/seen online. I was only on clear liquids for a few days after surgery. I could have certain liquidy solids (like pudding, yogurt, cream of wheat, cream soups) a week after that, and then puréed a week after that, and right now I'm eating stuff like chicken, sausage, etc. without a problem. There's not a standard plan. I think it varies depending on your surgeon, and your progress, and your personal set of medical complications/pre-existing conditions. That's my inclination, anyway. But there's one thing that's exactly the same everywhere I've seen-- there's no going back! This is a lifestyle change. No exceptions. It does seem like some people miss the memo on that, so I see what you mean, Creekimp13.

    Crazy People On This Forum

I've been on many forums like this, and no matter what the subject matter, people are people. There's gonna be lots of personalities, just like at school, work, and anywhere else people come together. I also agree with Rainbow_warrior that sometimes written text can be misconstrued or misunderstood. It's happened to me before. Not talking about Peaches thread, but going forward, try to give people the benefit of the doubt. We judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions. I think most people on the forum are really nice and helpful. I haven't had any negative experiences (yet!). If you feel slighted due to someone's comment on the internet, my suggestion would be to shrug it off the best you can. Redirect your attention-- as others have suggested. You can even block people if you want to. But not worth stewing over. Give it a hair flip!

    Where is my period?

Good to know. Did you not have it that entire time? I think I would constantly be taking pregnancy tests hahaha

    Where is my period?

I hope it goes back to normal soon!! A 2 day period sounds awesome.
  23. I quit many years ago and the only thing that did it for me was exercise. Instead of smoking on my lunch breaks, I'd go for a little walk. I'd walk in the morning before work for 15 minutes, and again right after I got home. Before you know it, I ran my first 5k. It's been years since I've done that, but I'm hoping to get back there. It did everything cigs did for me-- stress relief, boost of energy, kept weight off, etc. It was really hard saying no to cigarettes, especially in the car and out with friends. Sometimes just holding a pen in between my fingers while driving helped. And singing to every song on the radio at the top of my lungs! I've never gone back to smoking, but you'll still see me singing at the top of my lungs in the car LOL.... GOOD LUCK!! You can do it!!!

    Sugar Free Chocolate Jello

I agree with Creekimp13 My pre-op was 3-4 protein shakes, one serving of lean protein and two servings of veggies a day. No pudding allowed. I was allowed SF pudding after 4 days post-op, but honestly didn't want any until a few days after that. Long story short- it's different for everyone, and I think your doctor may even tweak things depending on how much you have to lose, the size of your liver before surgery, etc. If you had it once during pre-op, it won't kill you... but try not to stray from the pre-op diet, whatever it may be. The easier it is for your surgeon to do what he has to do, the safer and better results you'll have. I'm so glad I didn't cheat!!! The peace of mind is way more worth it than any cheat day I would have had.

    Where is my period?

Thanks ladies-- I'll just try to be patient and hope it comes eventually. Hopefully not when I'm out and about... lol I hate not knowing when it's going to appear!
