    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

I missed the beginning of the premier.... But I do think the show in general had something to do with the very vivid nightmare I had last night. I dreamed someone broke into my house and killed me. Guess it's good that I woke up, but couldn't get back to sleep for a while. I also watch a lot of Forensic Files and shows like that so it may not be all Criminal Mind's fault! I read those types of books too -- I'm really setting myself up here aren't I??

    Pjtp...again!

Hey tap -- If you try that and it works let me know. Sounds better than all this *&%^ interviewing and being 2nd choice!! Do what your heart tells you to do!!

I had trouble getting logged in earlier today too..... Well, I got approved by the county to be a foster parent, now have to wait 6 to 8 weeks on state approval. If they are so desparate they need to streamline this process -- geez! My neighbors across the street don't have a tv either. They say it's a bad influence on children. But when the kids go to other kid's homes the first thing they want to do is watch tv -- makes me chuckle!! Ok, off to watch Criminal Minds re-runs on A&E. I love that show!!

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

When I was in high school and video stores were newer things....(a long time ago!!) My dad would always tell me to bring home Debbie does Dallas. One year for Christmas, my uncle got my Dad's name in the gift exchange and rented, yep, Debbie does Dallas for the Christmas party. They made Dad watch it. Never heard him say that again!! Let's see, my favorites: 1. Hoosiers -- all-time, watch every year!! (Have I mentioned I'm originally from Indiana and it was filmed partly in my hometown with several hometown stars!!) Top Gun Dirty Dancing My Fair Lady Back to the Future 101 Dalmations (cartoon version) Die Hard Sabrina (w/ Harrison Ford) hate the Saw series!, scary movies Had to take the girl cat to the vet today -- throwing up every time she eats. So now we are back, she got an antibiotic and an anti-nausea shot, blood work and he wants her back soon for a teeth cleaning (bad inflammation). And the bill was only $193. (sarcasm) Yikes!! And now, to boot, the boy cat (her brother) is hissing at her because she doesn't smell right to him. We were gone less than 2 hours. Geez, what a day!

Congrats on the new phone Judy!! I should have upgraded (I already had AT&T) and paid the $50, instead I ordered a new line to pay the .01 and now they cannot switch it over. My old account had a discount from my ex-employer and so I cannot sign up the new account because I don't have a current check stub. I swear it said you would be able to switch but maybe that was just the number if you had a different carrier?? I guess if I had sent it back and had re-done as a upgrade before I activated it......Oh well. I love the blackberry!! Got all my contacts downloaded from my laptop -- all 187 in about 2 minutes!! Well, better get some lunch before I go to work (first day) at Curves this afternoon!

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Judy -- again, thanks for the amazon info!! My .01 phone arrives Wednesday. My debit card went through without a problem. Heather -- what a pain?!?! I've have never heard of such demands from a landlord for a renter -- she is crazy!! Haydee -- all three dresses are beautiful!! I would not be comfortable in the third one, but that's 'cause of my chest -- I'd be afraid that the top would not stay up. That pool is AMAZING!! Well, I got a part time job at Curves today. I went to work out this morning and the owner was talking on the phone to the lady that was working. When she hung up the phone, the lady asked me if I knew anyone looking for a part time job. Uh, yeah, unemployed me!! So now I will work Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and every other Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. It will add about $300 a month to my budget. Laura -- Hope your knee starts feeling better soon!! I cannot believe people walked over you -- how rude!!

I hate it when people post just to post.....

Ebony -- maybe we could post a note on this thread what the new thread name is and then have Alex close this one again. It does take a long time to load and that would let anyone who wanted to find the new thread the opportunity?? I don't know.....

I'm so glad we are back in business!! Good to see everyone!! I did the same thing to my hair many years ago. It took the hairdresser applying color stripper, bleach 3x, and then color 3x to get it where it should have been. She made me promise to NEVER do my own hair again. It's been 10 years, I guess!! Ktork -- sorry about your dog..... My parents called me shortly after college to tell me abut my cat -- I knew something was up, they never called me. I was afraid it was my grandmother. I was ok until my Mom said your Dad feels awful, since it's his fault -- what?? My Dad is not a cat person. The now deaf cat was very old and got cold really easy so she took a nap under my dad's truck on the blacktop driveway......you can see where this is going. He held her until she passed and Mom said he was very upset since she was my cat. Well, I've got to go -- I'm hosting a jewelry party tonight at my house. Lots to do!!

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Heather -- thanks for your advice!! I hate to hear stories like that, but I know that they are out there. I just hope that if I were to be in a situation like that, that I can handle it and keep everyone safe. Don't beat yourself up over doing what you had to for your son -- he is your highest priority, always! You kept in touch with the other boy and let him know that you still care about him and that's the most important part of foster care. I am not sure how I will handle having to give one up especially if it is a situation I don't agree with....but I'll deal with that when it happens! I have said that I would like to have younger kids (potty-trained) through maybe 10 or 11. I am not ready for the teen-aged stuff yet!! I think there's a reason God gives them to you young, so you can grow into the role as they get bigger!! My Dad is not totally on board with this but they live in Indiana. I know he just worries about me and doesn't want to see me get hurt. He also is not a big fan of kids in general -- they are loud, messy and energetic!! Maybe when I am 77, I'll understand? Haydee -- I've been thinking of being a foster parent off and on for a couple of years. I always thought I would be married and have kids of my own but that hasn't happened. This way I can still have kids to care for and hopefully make their life a little better in the process. If I can convince one child that what has happened to them is not their fault and that they are loveable, it will have been worth it!! Since I have room for two girls, I am hoping to get siblings so that they feel comfortable that they still have each other in this 'scary' new place. Maybe they won't learn too quickly that they can gang up on me.....

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Heather -- yes, I am in the process of being approved as a foster parent! The physical was the last thing I had to do as I have already completed the required classes, had the home visit by the social worker, had the fire marshal come visit, documented my life history, etc. That injection site is still quite sore, but I'll live!! I guess I'm going to stay on this tread and possibly only this thread from now on -- it's crazy out there!! Will you keep me?? Have a good day, ladies!!

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

I miss a lot of episodes, I watch when I can and don't worry about it if I don't. The only show I ever really got upset about missing was the Bachelor / Bachelorette which is just stupid. Right now I'm on a Criminal Minds kick where I watch it most days at 1 pm on A&E and then Friday nights and Sunday nights (both on A&E) to catch up on the years before I started watching. The first time I saw it was in 2006 when I was in Italy (don't know italian) so I didn't pick up much. The next time I saw it months later was back in the US and don't you know it was the same episode!!

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Let me say first of all that I watch WAY too much TV. I love DIY & HGTV shows, House, Bones, Criminal Minds, CSI:NY, Mentalist, Biggest Loser, Fringe. I guess that will do..... Don't worry about having a cleaning lady -- if you can afford it, do it!! My mom got a cleaning lady as soon as I left for college -- her free help left!! If I could afford it, I would have one -- as it is I still pay someone to come do the 'once a year clean everything but the rafters' cleaning.

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Maybe it was an anomaly, no fever this morning. Still going to take it easy today and stay home, watch some TV, read a book, just generally be lazy just in case! I was all over the place yesterday. I tried to give blood, but the bus' three generators went out so they had no power. Why can't they carry the stuff to be able to set up in a physical building as well? They were at a HUGE firehouse with plenty of power but because the generators cannot plug into regular power and they didn't have the stuff to bring off the truck, they missed four hours of a five hour blood drive. How do all three generators go out at the same time?? Anyway.....have a good day!!

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Nope, no flu shot yet, even with the 6 visits to the doctor in the last 4 weeks. I asked yesterday and they said that they don't have it yet. I got a tetnus shot Friday (required for the foster kids, don't quite know why) but I would have thought I would have already had a reaction to that if it were it. Guess maybe going to sleep might help.....

    Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Well, I guess I know now why I've been feeling crappy all day -- I'm running a low-grade fever. Great! Will take a day to take it easy (if I still feel poorly in the morning). Hope it's not the flu -- although to help out my weight loss I could stand to have the flu for about a month!!

What version of Excel do you have? I was just playing with it on mine and got the same results. I bet you have to change something in the Excel Options. Don't you love technology -- why can't it just do what we want it to do!! I'll look at it some more today after my errands and let you know.

Slim -- I was thinking that sounded like a pretty normal BP Glouc -- Yikes, glad you can laugh about your Mom! Lu -- Goose is too cute!! Taps -- have a great trip!! We'll miss you!! Heartfire -- hope the doc can help!! Ebony -- Great job on the walk -- 3 miles in 30 minutes!! I walked 3 miles on the treadmill today while watching football and took 75 minutes and was proud. 1.5 miles in 1st half, brief break for halftime, 1.5 miles in 2nd half. Of course, then I took a nap. But it is a rainy Sunday afternoon, so I guess it's ok. Take care!!

Ok, I am trying my first multi-quote here...... be gentle with me. Yup, me too. I lost part of that one..... I quit public accounting (like Arthur Anderson / PriceWaterhouse) when Sarbanes Oxley was just starting -- too many new regulations for me. I just want to be able to post the entries and make sure the financial statements are correctly presented at the end of the month. I'm not really sure that I am going to be ok with giving a kid back to a bad situation, but I guess I'll cross that bridge if I get there. I keep telling myself that I can give them the best that I can offer while they are here and hope that that will impact their lives for the better, even when they move on. Part of this is selfish, I have never married and do not have any kids, so I thought this would be a good solution. Parents are not quite on board, but hopefully they'll come around. too funny!!

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts about a job! I am a CPA but prefer to work in industry as an accounting manager / controller. I did my time at an accounting firm and don't want to go back. A small CPA firm that consults with people who don't know accounting is ok, but I do not want to do audits again. I also sell Premier Designs jewelry on the side, but that has slowed down some too. Lu, you probably cannot turn around without hitting someone that sells Premier since they are based in Dallas. It's a great faith-based company with well-made jewelry at decent prices. Tomorrow I have my physical and that is the last thing I need to submit my application to the state of NC to be approved to become a foster parent. It will take 6 - 8 weeks for them to process and then I could get a call! I have set the room up for two siblings and the social worker says that she would recommend only girls for me since I am single. I've been working on this since May. I cannot believe I am almost at the end of the process! Off to the treadmill.......
