What was your favorite food before surgery??
lindsayAK replied to 2feelinggreatagain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pizza!! And ice cream [emoji510] but mostly pizza. I also love Jimmy Johns sandwiches. They have low carb salad wraps but the bread was the best part. I also want to try making pizza with a cauliflower crust. -

How well were you prepared for your diet by your medical team?
lindsayAK replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand your shock! I believe that some people are told what to expect but are not mentally prepared for it. The post op diet is not easy. Day 6 of clear liquids I was pretty damn depressed. -

I received a book from my doctors office with all the information I could ever need including a detailed list of items I could have for each phase of my diet and how long each phase would last. I also had to visit with the dietitian before surgery where she went over everything that was in the book plus some. As far as ounces per hour I haven’t necessarily followed any specific serving size however I can only sip whatever I am drinking so it’s hard for me to over do it. I have noticed a very wide range of post op diets given. I’ve even seen some people who were given soft foods in the hospital. I am on liquids for 3 weeks so that is surprising to me. I was able to go home the day of surgery so I was only given water and ice chips. I read the posts that I’m sure you are referring to and I am in shock as well. -

Did you talk to a therapist before the surgery? It may help a ton to talk to that person again along with your nutritionist. Between the fluids and gas I also gained in the first few days and then I lost all of that plus some a few days later. I had days where I felt just like how you are feeling but reminded myself that there is no turning back. If you eat a cheeseburger there is a high chance you will end up in the hospital again and that will only delay your ability to eat normal foods again. Just remind yourself why you decided to have this surgery in the first place and hopefully that will help you. You will be able to eat again! -
Adjusting to fluids on post op
lindsayAK replied to Cyndi J's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained a couple pounds the day of surgery and another pound the day after. Day three the scale started to move in the right direction. Surgery was 1/17 and I’m down 12 lbs so far. As far as the drinking, I had no problem getting clear liquids down right after surgery but I can only take sips or I get a stomach cramp. Once I started on full liquids I could really feel the restriction. -

Hi! I just had my surgery 1/17/18 and I’m in SA as well. How are you doing? -
Thank you for sharing and congrats! I hope to see one-deland one day! My highest weight was around 290. Lost a ton of weight by working out and eating healthy. Got down to 219 before I started gaining it back. Made it all the way back to 262 before I made the decision to have this surgery. Surgery was 1/17 and weighed 254. I’m now down to 241.4. Not bad for just over a week. My goal is 180 but I would be happy just to hit 199!!

All Liquid Pre-Op Diet help
lindsayAK replied to STjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try mixing up the protein shakes a bit. I added PB Fit to a chocolate premier protein and it’s so good! I also bought some puréed pumpkin and added that plus some pumpkin pie extract and that was really good. As long as what you add is low in sugar I think you will be ok. I was specifically told by my nutritionist not to add banana because of the sugar content or that would have been the first thing I tried! -
I am interested in your stats if you are willing to share. Also the timeline that your doctor shared with you if you don’t mind.

I found mine at Sams for the cheapest price. Also heard Walmart carries it which makes sense since they are the same company. You can also find it on amazon but it is a little pricy. Worth the price though even if you just buy a 12 pack to get you through the first few days.

Sharp pains when eating??
lindsayAK replied to NewBeginnings2018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take it slow and get in as much as you can. I would not push yourself too much if you are in any pain. I was not able to get in 48 oz in the first few days. Each day will get better! -
Sharp pains when eating??
lindsayAK replied to NewBeginnings2018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read your post and was going to suggest just that! Hope it works for you. I am still on liquids but have also tried yogurt. If I take in too much at one time, even with liquid, I get the same sharp pain! Had surgery 1/17 so I think you are doing great for 4 days post op! -
Had my surgery on 1/17. I honestly just constantly sip on something. Usually a bottle of protein water or sugar free vitamin water. I don’t necessarily measure it out but at the end of the day I can calculate the ounces. If I drink too much at one time I get a stomach cramp so I know to stop or slow down. I also have to take small sips. Not sure if any of that helps!
-
Those are so cute! You will do great! My surgery was last Wednesday. I weighed 254.2 the day after. Today I weighed myself and I’m down to 242.6! Not bad for one week.
-
Do one anyways! My pre op was two shakes and a small meal. The small meal had to be high protein, low carb. Snacks had to be either SF popsicles, jello, or broth.
-
So important to be prepared. You can do it! I gave all of my food to a friend. Only items I kept were items I could eat on my new diet. Everything else went! It was a little sad but it also felt really great!!
-
Being one week post op I wish someone would have told me just how important the pre op diet was. I followed my pre op diet almost perfectly. I realize now that it helped me train my mind on how little I would be able to eat after surgery. I know it is really hard to stick to the pre op diet but it is also really hard to stick to the post op diet. Except post op you won’t be able to cheat because you will hurt yourself. Just remember that it is all going to be worth it in the end!! No pain, no gain. Or in this case no pain, no lose!

Good luck!!

Best Clear Liquid Protein drinks?
lindsayAK replied to Dr-Patient's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I really like Premier Protein water. 20 grams of protein per bottle. I found it as Sams. -
Everyone’s schedule seems to be very different so I would contact your doctors office. I am on clear liquids for one week. Full liquids for two weeks. Then two weeks of soft foods.

I have my surgery date and I am so excited!!! Anyone else having surgery around the same time? I need a WLS buddy!!
