    Liquid Diet Phase

That’s so comforting to hear; I hope this is the hardest part!

    Liquid Diet Phase

I am also on day 2, and last night my headache was so bad it kept me up! I also had a very restless sleep and feel extremely lethargic. I am certain it’s just the sudden shock of this diet on our body. We will adjust and come right. I’m only on day 2 and struggling big time - i keep freaking myself out thinking that if I’m already struggling now, how will I tolerate surgery? [emoji23]. I miss solid food already and have been fantasising about a burger since midday yesterday [emoji23]. I’m due to be sleeved jan 17; when are you getting sleeved? All the best; this will pass!
  3. That’s a strange symptom to have. I’d be inclined to call your surgeon’s office and discuss this with them. Perhaps it’s a temporary thing while your body adjusts to your new stomach and caloric intake. Speak with your surgeon and perhaps they can give you the medicines they used to treat it in hospital.

    Started pre-op diet today!

Thank you! I hope I can get over that 3-day itch everyone mentions. Of course my sister had to bring home some delicious charcoal chicken today didn’t she *eye roll* [emoji23]. First day and I’m already fighting temptation!

    So scared

Yes! I’m terrified too. I’m on January 17, and I’ve given myself a full blown anxiety disorder because of my fear of doing it. But I know it has to be done if I want to live a long and healthy life. I’ve read numerous research studies about anaesthesia and it’s safety and it is very safe. I’m not too scared about that part of it, it’s more about the unknowns. Like, what will my new stomach be like? What can I tolerate, food and fluid wise? Will I have any serious complications etc etc. I think it’s extremely normal to feel scared and anxious, and second guess our decisions. If you’re really struggling, there’s no harm in considering pushing your date back and perhaps seeking some counsel from your surgeon or a therapist. I have not read about a single person regretting their decision for WLS and I think that’s what’s keeping me going. Even despite some people having a tougher time than others, they still say they don’t regret surgery. Try to focus on all the ways the surgery will help you, but also acknowledge your fears. This too shall pass! All the best on your journey

    Sleeping positions

Hi all! I was wondering what sleeping positions people found most comfortable after surgery? And for how long you had to sleep that way? I’m generally a side-sleeper thanks to sleep apnoea giving me trouble when I sleep on my back, but I imagine side sleeping will be hard after surgery. Also, considering buying myself a pregnancy pillow for comfort [emoji23]. Anyone used any “apparatus” to get a comfortable night’s sleep?

    Sleeping positions

Thank you both for your replies and sharing your experiences! I’ll invest in a nice soft pillow to help. Luckily there is a recliner chair in the house I could use if bed fails. Definitely want to try and sleep as well as possible to aid recovery.

    Pre Op diet disaster

Congratulations Cam!! So great to hear it’s done and you’re feeling good . Keep us posted on your recovery and how you’re doing! Xoxo
  11. Hi Atsu, checking in on how you’re doing. How are you feeling? I hope you went to the ER or called your surgeons office.

What couldn't you be without now?

Yes! Surgery twinsies haha! Ahhh 20 days! The time is flying! How are you feeling about it all? Yeah just roll with it and see if you need anything beyond what you’ve already got once the time comes around. As long as you’ve got all your vitamins and dietary needs sorted (protein drinks, fibre supplements etc) then you’ll be A-OK!

What couldn't you be without now?

I’m on the 17th of Jan too!! . It sounds like you’re pretty prepared for post-op. I’m cooking up soups to purée and freeze so I won’t need to worry about that stuff when I get home. Aside from that, I figure I’ll buy what I need as I learn about my new stomach and health needs.

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

January 17th here! . Good luck to everyone in their upcoming journeys!
  15. Hello everyone! I'm new to posting on the Bariatric Pal forum, but have used the forums to help me understand about people's experiences with the gastric sleeve. I am exactly 3 weeks away from D-day! I'll be having the gastric sleeve procedure. A bit about me - I am 27 years old, female, current weight is 97kg (213.8lb), I am 5'2 so that gives me a BMI of around 41. I have had some weight related health issues, but nothing overly drastic just yet. I am getting the surgery more as a preventative step so I don't end up on a bunch of pills or dead at a young age. I should also mention that I suffer from anxiety and panic disorder, particularly in relation to my health... somewhat of a 'hypochondriac' you could say ! To say I have been a complete ball of anxiety and worry would be an understatement. I am extremely scared and worried and have been stressing out about absolutely everything that could go wrong! Research and knowledge is great to have, but I think I overdid it . So with that, I come to you, the veterans of VSG, for some wisdom and guidance. I would love if people would share their positive experiences and any tips or bits of information you wish you had known prior to and after the surgery which may have helped you to get through recovery and learning about your new stomach. I have started a journal for myself that includes all rational thoughts to help me when I am feeling anxious and irrational. I would love to put any tips and words of wisdom you may have in my journal and know that it has come from experienced people. I understand everyone has a unique journey of their own, but I believe there is value in learning about others' experiences. Hope to hear from you all and get to know you and your journey .

    3 weeks until VSG (nervous!)

That’s so awesome to hear! I am so pleased you’re enjoying the sleeve and feel it was a great decision. I’m second-guessing but I know that’s all part of the nerves and anticipation. As a fellow anxiety sufferer, I feel for you. I’m also super proud of you for taking on the challenge and conquering it. That gives me a lot of hope! Thank you for sharing, and I will follow your journey .

    Pre Op diet disaster

I just read something really inspirational from another member who posted about trusting the rational self that had to jump through all the hoops to get here. You knew what you were doing and I think it's important to remember the reasons why you're embarking on this journey. It won't always be easy, but it also won't always be hard once you've learned how to 'drive' your new stomach :). Cheating on the pre-op diet is almost a given with our population, which is why the sleeve is so useful for us. This tool will teach you very quickly what cheating does (i.e. feeling icky if you eat something you shouldn't). Like another user said earlier in this thread, right now cheating doesn't do anything, but cheat on your sleeve and it will certainly teach you a lesson aversion therapy was and is a real thing! Wishing you all the strength and good vibes to get through this challenge.
