  1. Help guys! I have a swollen lymph node on the back of my neck just below the skull. It’s been inflamed since yesterday and is causing a massive headache as well as sharp pain running down my shoulder and arm. I’ve been alternating heat and cold compresses and just about maxed out the Tylenol you can take in a day. I even took a Lortab leftover from my surgery two years ago. I need to hit this with an anti inflammatory. What’s the best way to take an NSAID to reduce risk of ulcers? Take Pepcid with it? Maybe children’s ibuprofen in liquid form so it’s not sitting in my sleeve? Any advice would be welcome!
  2. I was posing all goofy for a friend and when she showed me the picture I was shocked! I knew everyone was TELLING me I was so skinny but this picture blows my mind! Its like my face was photoshopped on someone else's body! Look at those skinny legs!! 😱

    HELP HELP HELP!!

Hang in there! You can make it! The first couple days were the worst for me as well but by day 4 or 6 I felt more at peace. Don’t cheat yourself - you can do this!

    This picture shocked me

This is a picture taken about a month before my surgery
  5. I’ve tried twice now to make lentil soup. The first time we didn’t think about de-gassing them and a few bites caused incredible bloating and pain. Last night I brought the lentils to a boil. Rinsed them and added new water and baking soda to soak them overnight. Rinsed them again tonight before cooking and they still caused me to bloat uncomfortably. I don’t get it - when I go eat Indian food lentils don’t bother me but when I try to make them at home I’ve had nothing but trouble.

Rant re: chairs in the doctors office

I just want to stand and applaud you, MarigoldSky! Way to make your voice heard! Good luck on your journey!
  7. So I was thinking how there are a number of us that use MFP to log our food and wondered if it would be a good idea to become friends on there for added accountability, support or ideas of what one another is eating for meals. So I'm opening up this thread to share those MFP account usernames to find each other on that app. If anyone is interested in friending me there, my username is ljthon2014 . Just please send me a message with the friend request with your BariatricPal name so I have an idea of who you are! Disclaimer: I'm not always great about logging my food but trying to get better. Also, I don't have a "perfect" diet. If you follow me you'll see I occasionally indulge in some foods a lot of people feel I shouldn't be.

    Need a good LIE

I’d go with hernia. If you still have your gallbladder you never know if you legit need that out. But hernias can reoccur and in different locations.
  9. That I would look really good with clothes on, but not so great with clothes off.

    PreOp telling the fam

I seriously doubt they have done the research and have a good grasp on both the risks AND the benefits of the procedure. If they have the gall to express their opinion about it, patiently and calmly say "I hear what your saying, but I did a lot of research about the procedure. Do you mind telling me what you know about bariatrics? I want to make sure we're on the same page if we are going to have a serious conversation about it." Bottom line -make sure they know this is your health, and your decision. Their approval is not required. If they needed or wanted a hip replacement or back surgery (both have higher risks of something going wrong and both irreversible procedures) you'd respect that and keep your nose out of their health care decisions.

    Recommend a doctor please

I think you can go to Mexico for self pay bariatrics below the 35 BMI. I haven't heard of any in the states though. Just be aware that there is a reason that they have a minimum BMI. There is concern that you lose so much you could get close to underweight.

    Smoothie king

I dont go to Smoothie King often, but sometimes when I'm out running errands its a nice lunch replacement thats also a bit of a "treat".

    Smoothie king

I got a Smoothie King gift card from coworkers and I think the one I picked that suited me best was the Lean1. It had a better Protein to Carb/Sugar ratio.

    Enjoying food is gone?

If you are already in the habit of slowly eating and savoring your food, then you shouldn't have a problem post surgery. There are occasions where I really want to pig out - namely at buffets where there are multiple dishes I want to enjoy. But 90% of the time I still enjoy food without regetting that the volume of the food is so much smaller.
  16. My husband tried some of his coworker's and really liked it. Thought I might want to get some. Has anyone tried this brand? Is it good for bariatrics? I think it has to be purchased directly from their website.

    Cereal!

Gah! I’m so excited about this I just had to share! I was browsing Pinterest last night and found a recipe for making cereal from a Quest bar! I adjusted the recipe to make in my air fryer. I took the temp down to 320° and checked it every 3 minutes instead of 4. Also skipped the parchment paper since the ‘cereal’ would be too light to properly weigh down the paper.
  18. Yesterday I drove 2.5 hours to meet up with my very dear friend that had gastric bypass only 3 months before I had my sleeve. We enjoyed our day together shopping for new clothes, talking about life and the joys and struggles of WLS. She has also lost 100lbs.
  19. When I started my journey I had a BMI of 41. Through the 6 month medically supervised weight loss required by my insurance I lost 15 pounds, then another 14 on the preop liquid diet. So the day of surgery I weighed 202 pounds at 5'4" putting my BMI at 34.6 that day. I am a year out from my surgery having lost 77 pounds since that day and my BMI is currently at 21.5. My weight loss shocked me and I can’t promise that you’ll have the same results. I figured at 5’4” that my ideal body weight is 120 and I had 82 pounds of excess body weight at surgery. The sleeve is supposed to get off 60-70% of excess body fat and mine nearly did 95% of the work. So I’m an above average loser and not typical I don’t think. I definitely dont have any regrets. I also dont have any complications. I closely follow my surgeon's eating program and keep to a low sugar diet.
