    THROWBACK THURSDAYS

This is with a friend of mine that had WLS a couple months before I did. I can't wait to get together with her to take an "After" picture

    Lime ?

You should be fine to add lime to your water. Your stomach produces acid much stronger than lime juice.
  4. Do any of the liquids youre drinking have sugar in them? If they are all completely sugar free you are likely going through sugar detox and headaches are a common symptom. The headaches should go away in a couple days or you can add a little sugar back into your diet.

    I didn't realize when I lost weight that _____

I thought of another one today! My armpits used to be fleshy and easy to shave. Now they're all concave and I struggle to get all the hair with the razor!

    Where am I going wrong?

So 57 pounds since surgery. It's still really good process! I think youre doing well and there isn't anything wrong with little indulgences to keep you sane (in my opinion). 38 calories from the Cadburys shouldn't be that harmful.

    Where am I going wrong?

That was my first reaction too! I was like "her food diary looks so good why is she eating Cadbury's?!" Then I saw the calories for it ...... wait what?

    Where am I going wrong?

I think the Cadbury's is a brand of milk or creamer for her tea in England? Not the Easter candy us Yanks are used to.

    Where am I going wrong?

I don't think anything is necessarily going wrong. You had surgery a little over 5 months ago and have lost 63 pounds? Is that from your surgery weight or did you lose some before your procedure? 63 pounds in 5 months is great progress! Some people lose faster than others, some slower. No one is the same but you seem to be doing a great job from the look of your food diary. Keep up the good work!

    Fears wls

I worked with an anesthesiologist that would occasionally remind people that they are statistically more likely to die in a car accident on the way to the hospital than from anesthesia. So when I would get nervous I just tried to put things in perspective. There are no guarantees in life. I could have complications from the surgery, I could also get cancer or get in a freak accident. There are so many things out of my control I just try to focus on what I can control.
  15. Such weird comment to make. If it was the opposite and you had gained 100 pounds no one would dare say "I want to the old you back." Because D@MN that's cold!
  16. Uh no. Can you find a medical journal to back up that statement? Because all the ones I've seen say the opposite. For example: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4843041/ From the article: "VSG is primarily a restrictive procedure for weight loss. The perioperative and postoperative mortality rates are 0.29% and 0.34%, respectively, with complication rates of 13%" "RNYGBP has been the most common weight-loss procedure performed in the United States for the past several decades. Contemporary rates of perioperative and postoperative mortality are 0.38% and 0.72%, respectively.14 ..... In randomized controlled trials, the overall complication rate was 21%"
  17. They are both good surgeries with pros and cons to both. Like you, I didn't like the idea of the rerouting of intestines but also the malabsorption scared me. Especially when it came to absorbing your vitamin and minerals. I was on 2 support groups on Facebook - one a Bypass group and one a Sleeve group. When the question was asked on the Bypass group if anyone was having problems with their teeth a large majority was YES, with over a 100 responses. When I would look for the same question on the Sleeve group I could hardly find the question even asked. When I asked myself I got less than 20 responses and most were NO. No offense to Elcee, but I work in surgery. Removing part of the stomach didn't phase me at all - I see body parts get removed all the time. Varying lengths of small bowel and colon are removed for cancer. Gallbladders are removed. Tonsils are removed. Uterus and fallopian tubes removed. Prostates removed. Bone joints are removed and replaced with metal versions. Vein is removed from the leg to bypass blood vessels in the heart. Even a small segment of the heart can be removed as a treatment for atrial fibrillation. So removing a large portion of the stomach didn't seem like a big deal. Kristinqtpie is right. The surgery is just a tool to help facilitate weight loss but in the end your results depend on YOU and the choices you make. After spending well over a year in those Facebook support groups I came to the conclusion that regain doesn't just happen. People try to eat the same things they did preop and rely too much on their surgery to maintain the weight loss.

I haven't gotten a tummy tuck! I probably need one though and a new set of boobs! But honestly if I had a couple thousand dollars extra for it I'd be more likely to take the family on a nice vacation than spend it on plastic surgery.

1 Year Post Op - What are you eating?

I'm kinda curious what type of protein shakes you're drinking that would even need the ice cream added to it. Thats a new one I haven't seen people doing. Like Premier Protein already tastes like melted ice cream to me. I hope the low fat ice cream is also a low sugar/high protein one (like Halo Top) otherwise you're just adding unnecessary calories. My breakfast is either eggs or Oikos Triple Zero yogurt. Lunch is usually a P3 and raw veggies with hummus or a dip made from greek yogurt. I'll have a Quest protein bar in the afternoon as a snack. Dinner is lean meat like chicken or ground turkey. Before bed I usually have a rice cake with PB2.

    First Doctor Appointment tomorrow

Its normal to be nervous! They are going to make sure you meet the very basics to qualify for the surgery and make sure you have a basic understanding of what all is involved. At my appointment they gave me a folder with a master checklist of everything I needed to do and when - like nutrition classes and psych consult, vitamin requirements - stuff like that.
  22. Hi! I had the sleeve at a lower weight. I'm 5'4" and my highest weight was 233. When I started my preop liquid diet I was 216. Weight was 202 on surgery day - Aug 6 last year. I steadily lost around 10 pounds a month and currently weigh 132 pounds. Went from a size 18 to size 6. Surgery was a great success for me. I was one of the lucky ones that never had any problem tolerating any foods, no heartburn.
  23. Try a different form of liquid protein besides the shakes. I purchased a variety pack of Syntrax Nectar from the BariatricPal store and enjoyed a lot of the fruit flavored protein drinks.

    Alcohol

My first drink was 2 months out. Drinking is really interesting for me now. I get super tipsy after only half a glass and will stay that way until about 15 minutes after I finish the drink - I sober up just as quickly. My friends think its hilarious, its like a party trick to them!
