    Multivitamin One

Egh. Not me, I couldn't stand the chewables. If they don't have capsules then its no deal for me! To each their own I guess

Stall in the soft food stage

Don't worry about stalls right now! Your body is going through a lot of changes and doesn't know what is going on! My advice is to stay off the scale and focus on your fluid and protein intake. The weight loss will come, you just need to be patient.

    Stuck food

When food gets stuck in my sleeve I just suffer through it without trying to push it down with fluids - that always seemed to make it 10x worse

    Frequent Periods Post-op

I have an IUD and had a lot of breakthrough bleeding at that stage as well. I never specifically talked to my doctor about it but from what I can see from other women its not uncommon after the surgery.

    Patience

You'll find all kinds of individuals in groups like this. Guess it depends on where your mind is as far as finding someone "like minded". Some are super strict with what they eat, some are very nonchalant. This forum in particular has been my favorite and is now the only one I still participate in. Its no nonsense but not without occasional drama. Plus participating in the forum gets you discounts in the store which is a great source for high protein food items especially in the early eating stages after your surgery.

    Copay

You should be able to find that information with your carrier so it won't be a surprise.

    Abnormal EKG

My EKG was abnormal and I had to get a cardiologist consult. Turns out I have abnormal ventricular relaxation which is a mild congestive heart failure. Short of treating any hypertension and cholesterol levels the only thing that can help that is *ding ding ding* losing weight and exercising! So in my case the abnormal EKG actually helped get me approved for WLS.

    Multivitamin One

I bought several months supply of ProCare before Bariatric Pal launched theirs. Going to compare them and possibly try One when I run out.
  9. I can't remember the first thing when I was cleared for any food. When I was cleared for pureed though I dragged my husband to the nearest Indian food restaurant. (My surgeon is very conservative with diet progression and I was on full liquids for 6 weeks) I was ready for something savory and spicy!

    Protein in vs Calories in

My surgeon's goals for me are a minimum of 60 grams of protein and no more than 1200 calories a day. Most days I hit around 1000 calories.

    Applesauce

I would think no, its pureed.

    Low Cal Ice Cream

YUM! I like to keep a couple pints of Halo Top in the freezer in case the rest of the family wants to run to Dairy Queen. Then I have my low cal treat without being tempted to get something there.

    Sour Stomach

Is it happening when you eat certain things like dairy? My fellow sleever friend couldn't tolerate dairy and I was experiencing extreme gas when I had dairy. Lactaid helps tremendously. Maybe that's worth trying to see if it would help?
  15. I chose the sleeve because I didn't want to mess with the rearranging of the intestines in RNYGB. The research I read said that the complication rate was lower. Friends that just went ahead with bypass asked me why not just get the 'gold standard' since its reversible and some sleeve patients have to convert to bypass anyway. The way I figured it, I had a less than 5% chance of needing a revision to RNY from GERD. Then if I was that 5% and needed bypass then I would have a 20% chance of any complications from RNY. I didn't want to jump to that 20% complication risk right from the get go. I didn't care that the sleeve wasn't reversible - why would I want to reverse it? Some people need to have their bypasses reversed because of malnutrition, but because the sleeve isn't malabsorptive the risk of losing TOO much isn't nearly such a problem. There are a lot of surgeries that aren't reversible and no surgery has zero risks involved. Both surgeries are a TOOL. And your long term success is determined by how you use it when making a lifestyle change in eating habits. Those friends that had their "gold standard" surgery? They follow an everything in moderation diet and some are still working to get to their goal weight. I've eliminated a majority of sweets, breads, rice, potatoes, fried foods from my diet. I've reached my goal and have lost an additional 14 pounds beyond it.
  16. Love the pictures! That last dress looks great - I hope you bought it!

    Can anyone help me?

This would be a concern. According to an online BMI calculator, Riah's BMI is 35.4, just barely enough to qualify with a comorbidity. IF you decide you want it, it would probably take a letter from a surgeon or your primary care doctor to your insurance to get them to consider your lack of mobility a comorbidity. There are a lot of things to consider when making your decision which surgery to do. Ultimately I choose sleeve because you don't lose as much weight with it as you do the bypass. I didn't have a lot to lose. And in fact, I'm losing more that what I'm truly comfortable weighing. I can't imagine how much less I would weigh if I had the malabsorption component of bypass. If you are permanently wheelchair bound something to think about - I've lost A LOT OF PADDING ON MY BACKSIDE. If you go look for a topic I posted "I didn't realize when I lost weight that __" you will find a lot of WLS veterans complain of the same. As you know if you are permanently wheelchair bound you are at risk for pressure ulcers. If you lose the kind of weight I did you are WAY WAY more likely to get a pressure ulcer on your sacrum. Unlike most of us that can do squats and lunges and get on a stair master to build up our glutes to protect that tailbone, you won't be able to do that. That should be a huge consideration when you look to do this or not. Please give it a lot of thought before you decide.
  18. I wish my addiction was exercise. Alas, it seems to be shopping. Doesn't matter if its online shopping, heading to the mall or even just Walmart. Hitting the thrift shops helps keep me from overspending.

    Calling all Equestrians

I don't have an answer for you but I wanted to tell you that how much I liked your picture here. Your horse is beautiful and I imagine riding will be so much more satisfying when the excess weight is gone!
  20. I got dizzy and lightheaded when I stood up or moved around too quickly. Luckily that only lasted a couple months.

    Gah! I think I’m sick!

    Yay! Glad to hear it!
  22. Here is the list I made preop, my weight loss bucket list as it is: 1. cross my legs - check! I love crossing my legs now and do it all the time! 2. sneeze without peeing - condition has improved greatly 3. rock climbing - haven't tried yet, kinda forgot it was on my list 4. run a 5k - currently training and looking for a race 5. be comfortable wearing shorts and not just capris in summer - check! I never used to wear shorts, but now I have 3 in my new size and only one pair of capris 6. buy a swimsuit that doesn't have a skirt - check! 7. waterski again - gotta get to the lake this summer to knock this one off 7. Sex. More energy for it, more fun positions to try - DOUBLE CHECK! Some bonus things: I like being able to pop myself up to sit on counters, I can sit on the floor without hurting my hips, I can buy a much bigger variety of shoes because I no longer need wide widths. Unfortunately I'll need to replace all my wide calf boots because they look ridiculous on me now.
  23. Great work! You look amazing! Keep it up!
