I didn't announce it on Facebook. Simply because I don't feel the need to announce everything going on in my life on social media. But anyone that asks what I did to lose the weight gets an honest, unashamed answer. The stigma behind weight loss surgery isn't going to go away anytime soon if we continue to hide it.

Scared but my new beginning!
KCgirl061 replied to SuzM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I did that too in preparation for my surgery. Reading people's questions and experiences will not only give you an idea of what to expect -- like the dreaded 3 week stall -- but it will also inspire and encourage you! I love reading people's weight loss bucket lists and non scale victories. -
That's awesome! Plus more room for souvenirs!

The only reason I can think of as a possibility is if you did find you had breast cancer and needed chemotherapy. When people lose weight during cancer treatment, it is most often due to an inability to maintain good nutrition. Chemotherapy can sometimes cause nausea and a general loss of appetite, while vomiting and diarrhea can greatly impact your ability to retain nutrients from the foods you eat.

What's In Your Hospital Bag?
KCgirl061 replied to d258's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Guess it depends on how long you anticipate your stay being. Some people are outpatient and leave the same day, others like me stay 2 nights. I took my own toothbrush and toothpaste, chapstick, hairbrush and deodorant. I wore the same comfy outfit I wore into the hospital with the exception of fresh underwear. Some people recommend bringing your own socks to walk in but hospital floors are gross - surgeons and other staff walk right out of the operating rooms up to the nursing floors to round on their patients. I wore the ones they gave me and threw them away when I left. -
What I really don't get is under your username it says you're a Senior Member. Which means you've spent quite some time on the forums. Have you really not run across multiple multiple posts just like this??

This is literally the 3rd "I haven't lost enough weight in X weeks out of surgery" and you're the 3rd one that looks like they are doing FINE. My starting weight on surgery day was 202 on Aug 6. My weight on Oct 3 was 178. At 2 months out I (only) lost 24 pounds. You ARE losing weight. You aren't doing anything wrong or even need to change anything that you're doing except maybe limit getting on the scale to once a week and lower your expectations. Stalls are a normal part of the process. You need to be patient and trust the process.

I was 202 on my surgery date. I sure as hell didn't lose 30 pounds in 30 days. I lost 14 pounds and was damn happy about it.

This cannot be said enough. I don't know why so many expect to drop all their weight in the first month postop.

I've definitely not been posting pics. Of course I'll do anything to get out of cooking dinner most days.

oooOOhhh! I'll have to look for that! What Brand?

Lap band vs VSG for 37 BMI
KCgirl061 replied to Tlily730's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Agreed. My surgeon doesn't offer lap band anymore either. -
This sounds good! I'd probably throw some lean ground turkey in to up the protein content and appease my carnivorous family!
-
This early out I wouldn't even call it a stall. Your body is still recovering from surgery. Just be patient, its a process.

I'm also 9 months out. I've been holding steady at my weight for about 3 weeks now.

Did you need help at home?
KCgirl061 replied to Tlily730's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My mom came for the surgery and helped take care of my daughters so my husband didn't have to take 3 days off work while I was in the hospital. But once she got me home I didn't need assistance and she left early with my blessing. -

Any Pescatarians in here....
KCgirl061 replied to TxAlpha06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some days I feel like I could, just because I struggle with eating meats slowly enough. My preferred source of protein is from dairy. -
Dieticians/nutritionists question
KCgirl061 replied to Zemi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I only met mine at the preoperative class I was required to take. She does come to the monthly bariatric support group too but I don't see her on a one to one basis. -
All the chewables I tried were nasty. I was taking ProCare Now capsules - you only need 1 and if I take it at bedtime with a small snack the nausea is minimal. I'm about out of ProCare and I'm switching to Bariatric Pal One because of the better pricing. I take my chewy calciums at breakfast lunch and dinner.

Guys, I could use some help. I've been so gassy lately its unbelievable. I need it to stop. I started taking a probiotic a couple weeks ago. Aside from a couple days of making my gas strong enough to kill a rhino it hasn't helped. I was taking Beano before meals, even the ones that didn't have typical gas causing foods and that didn't seem to help. Finally I stopped drinking coffee this week. For 3 days in a row I had zero coffee and I woke up this morning and was still tooting away. Ive run out of ideas. Anyone have any advice??

Dont do it. As soon as you let something back into your diet, it becomes easier to allow yourself to eat it again the next time. There are a lot of things I wish I hadn't let back into my diet "that one time"

I had a really weird one come up last week. I've never had large breasts and like many, they shrank with the weight loss. My bra size before was 40B. Up to this point I've just purchased Tshirt bras at Walmart that come in small medium large sizing. I decided I needed a nice padded, pushup bra to fill out my dress for a wedding coming up this weekend so I headed to Victoria's Secret and requested a measuring. She measured me at 32D. 32D. D cup. Whaaaaaat?? I barely have a handful there, how the hell am I a D cup? She explained that when the band size gets smaller that the cup sizes change. I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around that kind of "bra math".

I did! First thing I did when I was cleared to puree I went to eat Indian food. They only thing to keep in mind is that you can't drink while you eat so you may need to keep the spice level down to where you can tolerate it without water.

Yes. You just had surgery. You are likely to be retaining water from getting IV fluids and your body just doesn't even know what's going on. You'll probably see a drop on the scale soon but at 3 or 4 weeks you'll see another stall. My advice is to stay off the scale and focus on your fluid and protein intake. You have to hit your goals no matter what the numbers on the scale are so that can be a distraction.
