A question for those who have lost a lot of weight
CB31 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm looking forward to my op but I am a bit nervous for down the line. One thing I'm nervous about is, when I lose weight, will I struggle with a disassociation with my body? I've struggled with depression and all sorts over the years. I deal with it and talk about it but it's made me be very aware of myself. I'm curious if you still feel like you. I want to lose weight but not the person I am, if that makes sense. Anyone make sense of my bumbling? Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm the same as you. I'm 4 weeks post op tomorrow. In week 1 I lost 8.5lbs, week 2 I lost 2.5lbs and last week I lost 0lbs. I normally weigh myself on a Friday but I have been a bit down over it so I weighed myself Wednesday morning and found I have gained 2lbs. It's so disheartening this early. I've a review with my surgeon Monday so I hope he'll help me. I'm following all I've been told to do. But I feel I can eat so much more than I should be even though I am eating so much less than before. I'm stressed from it. But you are right. It's a marathon. A life long one! Just do our best and support each other on this site. I work for a doctor who told me it's normal to stall for a month then it'll start coming off. We are still healing too. Best of luck! I'm so sorry for what you are going through but you have to do what you feel is right. Will he sit and talk to you about why he feels as he does? I hope it all works for you x Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Any buddy out there that wants to share day-to-day progress with me?

Thanks. I guess every diet I did failed hence this op. It's a pattern and I'm afraid of it. Guess I'm just having one of those days Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app -

I lost over 8lbs in the first week after surgery. Then on my second week I only lost 2.5lbs. I'm getting scared I'm going to fail. Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app -

Doing brilliantly thank God. Had my surgery the 12th, home the 15th. Can't eat everything on my post op plan because I get too full but no pain and I have good energy today. Up to know I would get dizzy and lose energy very quickly. Wounds healing well. All in all I'm so delighted. I do miss work. Sitting around isn't for me lol Best of luck with yours. Do exactly as your doc says and ask all questions even if you feel it might be a daft one. Then you'll fly at it! Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app

So I'm 4 days post op. Came home yesterday. Just the drive from the hospital had me wrecked. Didn't sleep great last night, think my bed is too flat and my back is a bit sore from lying on it but apart from that I'm flying. Rang my doctor today cause experiencing some numbness and pins and needles in one leg. He thinks I might have bruised a nerve with the compression stockings and should be fine in a few days. I do find as well that I can't walk for more than a few mins without getting a bit dizzy and needing to sit. But if that's the worst I'm laughing. Fingers crossed!! Only thing I'm worried about is going stir crazy sitting round for two weeks doing nothing. First world problems! Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app

Exactly. Best of luck!! It's so exciting Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app

I think doing exactly as the doctors and dieticians tell you is the key to a speedy recovery Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app

I wouldn't worry. My dietician said to eat what I can but when I'm full, stop. And to try regulate my eating so I'm eating same time everyday. That way my body gets used to it Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app

Day 3. Had a roughish morning. Had a sudden bang of nausea and awful gas. Just wanted to burp all the time. It was very painful but luckily a few meds sorted me and I slept awhile. Had my first shower. Was heaven!! Drunk cubitan now. Nice to have something a bit thicker than water and more flavour. Looking forward to going home tomorrow Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app

One of my nurses gave me good advice. If you roll a towel up and press it just under your chest (this is where my surgery sights are) as you get up it eases the pain. Same for if you cough etc. The pressure helps relieve the muscle ache from there. Been a big help to me Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app

I don't know but the nurses last night found nothing odd about it. Mention it to your doc if your unsure though Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi everyone. So I had my surgery yesterday. Everything went well thank God. The roughest part was right after surgery. I woke with the tube in my mouth so couldn't breathe, it was like I lost my sight too; could only see colours. I was taken to ICU for the night (protocol). When I got here I was in alot of pain and just wanted to vomit the whole time, and I did. My poor parents were there and my dad had to leave. I saw them I was vomiting blood but it was just from the breathing tube that had been in. It felt like it went on for ages but wasn't that long. They sorted my pain meds and I passed out asleep. When I woke I was like a new woman! I was comfortable and no pain. Same today. I'm being kept well medicated lol but I feel great. I have no pain, just a feeling of pressure now and then. Only taking 50mls water per hour which is more than enough for me. I'm shocked I feel so great. Thank God for that. All of you that are waiting for your ops don't worry, yes there will be a rough period but it doesn't last and then you'll find it hard to remember, like a dream. I'm so so soooooo happy. I'm just at the end of my pre diet. For two weeks my daily food was: breakfast - protein shake, snack - 125g diet yogurt or 150g sugar free jelly, lunch - 150g protein (baked or grilled if cooking) and 150g veg/salad (no high sugar ones like corn), snack - 125g diet yogurt or 150g sugar free jelly, dinner - 150g protein and 150g veg/salad and then a snack again. I put alarms on my phone to tell me when to eat and I cleared my house out of everything I couldn't have. I also kept busy with work. I'm on a two day liquid diet now before surgery Friday. I know I'm only telling you what I've done but hope the structure might help you! I know you don't have the 100% go ahead yet but try it out and be prepared for when you get it. The first few days are tough but you get in to the swing and look at what the end result will be. What helps me is knowing there's a time limit. I don't think about after surgery, that's a different phase. Just go he'll for leather for these last few days. You can do it!!! Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app
