  1. All very true and a good reason to follow the instructions. I was more referring to things like flesh eating bacteria and other very bad pathogens that can be found in the ocean. Pretty much any body of water is pretty nasty where people (or animals) are involved

    Coping Mechanisms

I'm working hard to make exercise my coping mechanism or other physical stuff. If I can't or don't want to do formal exercise I will do something useful around the house. For example I cut and stacked wood for 3 hrs the other day, I couldn't move after and it felt great. Outdoor labor is great because it can be very physical, but also produce satisfying results. Writing can be therapeutic or reading. I'm finding that talking to my wife (shocking I know) is helpful too. Try a bunch of stuff and see what you like.
  3. I didn’t know of the restriction and swam at 3 weeks in a pool, I was fine. I suspect a pool is safer than natural bodies of water in terms of bacteria etc.
  4. They said 1 month for my program to swim.

    Typical daily menu?

My menu doesn’t change much if at all day to day and has been the same since 1 month out. Breakfast: .5 cup egg white, .5 oz mozz cheese Light cocoa (20 oz) powerade zero 20 oz Lunch: 3.5 oz ground turkey with taco seasoning .5 oz Mexican cheese .5 oz sour cream Powerade zero (20 oz) dinner: same as lunch or alternately 3.5 oz of chicken, fat free turkey gravy Snack: (a couple of these depending on day): 1 oz almonds, light string cheese, light cottage cheese water 20 oz

12 Weeks Post Op and Only Down 35 LBS

Good job, you are making great progress. Think in terms of percent of excess weight lost vs lbs.
  8. In ma and we had a 2 week low calorie diet (just low calorie low carb) not liquids. It was clear liquids only the day before surgery
  9. For a good time go on amazon and read the reviews for sugar free gummy bears. Warning you might hurt yourself laughing. Those things should be illegal
  10. Not all, many just have artificial sweetener, which doesn't usually cause gas or other digestive issues. Sugar alcohol is usually listed on the nutrition label directly with an amount. For me 1 or 2g is ok, not great and more than that is a nightmare.... I'd rather have norovirus than 10g of sugar alcohol. in the ingredients it is also listed, anything with "itol" at the end is usually sugar alchol xylitol and sorbitol are the most common

    PORTION SIZE

At your early stage it probably should be only lean protein. The whole meal should be 3 to 4 oz. I normally eat 4 - 4.5oz at almost 3 months out. My program doesn’t want shakes after 4 weeks and I hate them anyway so meals are pretty much all protein. If there is room at the end of the day I can have some fruit or veggies, but there usually isn’t.

    What is your full feeling?

I measure everything, but when I’m very close to full I get a pain in my left shoulder and/or hiccup. I stop immediately when that happens, if I have a mouthful of food I spit it out. The difference between satisfied and painful for me can be a single bite. Afterwards I have a classic ‘full’ type of feeling.

    Sleeve sizes

Remember as you research there is a selection bias. People who choose to post usually have questions or problems. Very few post to say how easy it has been! Going to a group will be better, but will still have some of that bias too. Get your practices complication rates and other data and that will help.
  15. If they have sugar alchol they definitely could. I hate that stuff!

    Not taking my vitamins

I have the same problem if I don't set an alarm. I have to offset the multi's (2x a day) and the calcium (3x a day, but 2 hours away from each other and the multis). I carry a baggy with the days pills at all times and have alarms on my phone for each vitamin. Even with that I forget a couple a week and have to try and catch up... huge pain, but I'd rather carry a baggie of vitamins than 60 extra LBS

    Not taking my vitamins

Mine was similar, they tried to limit the pills for 2 weeks, then after that there are a bunch of vitamins. Ours is low/no carb for at least 6 months so the vitamins are needed

    Hydration issues after surgery

I had to dilute my protein shakes the first 2 weeks and drink them at room temperature. I usually took a premier shake, put it in a 20 oz bottle, filled the rest with water and shook it. Hang in there it does get easier
  19. I shoot for 80 - 100G and routinely do it in under 500 calories. The key is protein dense foods. Here’s a typical menu for me (I’m pretty boring so I eat almost the same thing every day and like it): .5c egg whites with .5 oz mozzerella cheese (17g protein, 106 calories) 3.5 oz chicken (28g protein, 105 calories) 3.5 oz of chicken for dinner I will usually have 1 - 2 snacks of string cheese (7g protein, 50 calories) or cottage cheese (10g protein, 90 calories) or sigg yogurt (15g protein, 110 calories). Sometimes I just repeat a meal for a snack (chicken). Recently my favorite meal has been a little higher calorie, but tastes great: 3.5 oz 99% lean ground turkey w taco seasoning (25g p, 140c) .5 oz mexican cheese (4g, 50c)) .5 oz sour cream (.5g p, 30c) The key is all calories are protein calories. My plan doesn’t allow carbs until 6 or 12 months. This does seem to be helping me maintain muscle mass, which is the goal of this particular plan.

    Hydration issues after surgery

Try a warm beverage. I use light hot chocolate, which has some protein and is 25 calories. For whatever reason that goes down much easier than anything else I’ve tried. If you think volume is an issue you can also sip from one of those little 1 oz medicine cups and even set a timer between sips (1 sip ever 5 mins for example)

    Post-op anxiety

I definitely had a lot of pain from the hernia surgery (not sure I had ANY from the VSG). Mostly it manifested as shoulder pain, like someone was stabbing me where my shoulder meets my neck. I still get it as my first sign over eating to much or too fast or if I over do it. I suspect everything has to stretch out again post healing / scar tissue has to form and stretch. Definitely talk to your team because sometimes the pain can be a sign of a leak, though usually there are other symptoms too.

    Post-op anxiety

If you had a hernia repair with your surgery it can feel like you describe. I still feel mine if I work out hard and breath heavy. B12 levels can make you feel anxiety, so make sure those are ok. I was feeling anxious and mine were low.

    The mystery of Oatmeal

Sadly not allowed on my plan for a few more months but I'm looking forward to it! One of my favorite breakfast foods
  25. They do send the whole removed portion of stomach to pathology for testing, so that wi be good. I imagine they will try to set it up to ensure they get the whole thing out. Hopefully it's harmless.
