Started running today. First time I’ve really run in over 10 years. I was able to do 2 miles with mile 1 taking 10 minutes and mile 2 11 minutes. Felt pretty good about it given how long its been, carrying a lot less weight makes it much easier. Starting to train for a 5k in June and thinking of doing some long distance biking so will need to get conditioned. The high protein diet seems to be really helping preserve muscle, last time I lost this much weight I was unable to run a mile when I hit goal (about 30 lbs from where I am now).

Looks great! I like the plate too. You’re eating far better than me, I had 2 turkey sausages and 1/4 cup of green beans n a paper plate for dinner.. not nearly as appetizing.

It is normal and expected to have some increased capacity around 6 months, but it’s like going from 3 or 4 oz of protein to 5 or 6, so still very restricted. I actually have noticed this increase in the last few weeks (4 months out) and can now eat around 4.5 oz of protein VS 3.5 a month ago. Of course you can eat a lot of slider foods or other things that will push through (softer foods). This is where focusing on good habits come in handy. I’m personally struggling with this as I re-introduce carbs.

Hang in there, it will get better. Hopefully this is the worst of it. Just focus on fluids and really take it easy on food. Shrimp that early sounds challenging. Hopefully everything will heal this time and you’ll be good to go and when you look back at this in 6 months it will be a minor bump in the road.

TMI ... let's call this "things sit differently for a smaller man"
Losebig replied to etc. etc. etc.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Enjoying reading this thread. I can’t imagine what all your husbands think, they’re probably wondering what the heck we talk about on this website. I’ve found that boxer briefs keep everything secure, but as the weight comes off you have to keep up with the sizes so they fit right. Things certainly change as the weight comes off... These have some funny /// interesting reviews on Amazon and are suppossed to be really good: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AIEHT5M/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_27?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER -
Depends how far out you are. After a couple of months I’ve found Jerky to be really good, it’s very high protein and filling. I wouldn’t try it early on though because it’s tough and very dry so you need to be well hydrated. I personally used a lot of dairy, but some non dairy ideas: SF Jello, almonds, egg, slice of deli meat rolled up, Sf pop or repeat a meal.

Nice work! The reduced pain is huge, I noticed the same thing. I think general inflamation goes way down when the pounds come off as does the stress on your body.

Hoping to dust mine off soon too. It got too uncomfortable as I gained weight so I've only Ridden my more comfortable mountain bike in the last 10 years. Kind of odd when I start thinking of all the things being heavy cost me... good motivation to not let it happen again.

Great to finally be getting some biking weather. Lucky you didn’t crash with the low tires. I found out the hard way that when tires get below a certain pressure its impossible to ride (got a flat and ended up face planting into a busy intersection!). Biking’s great for burning huge amounts of calories because you can do it for hours and maintain a steady rhythm.

Bariatric surgery and restaurants
Losebig replied to MermaidInAZ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’ve eaten out a bunch. Usually fish or chicken with no sides is my go to. Sometimes you can just get the protein they put on salads sans salad too. I found not your average joes has a chicken breast and instead of two sides they give me a side of chicken breast, which I take home. Other places I will just ask for a burger with no sides and no bun. Breakfast is the easiest meal since they usually do ala cart. At Italian places i’ve Discovered most will do a side of meatballs even if it’s not on the menu and those are awesome. -
Awesome great work! Time for some new and smaller shirts!

I was on the beach the other day and wanted to get somewhere fast so started running... and kept running not out of breath at all for half a mile. I’ve never been able to do that. I went for a short jog this morning and this afternoon plan to see how a mile or two feels.

Had that happen right after surgery and it wasn’t fun! Hope it was an easy birth. If it asks to borrow the car my advice is to say “no”

No Bowel Movement in 8 days
Losebig replied to AiyanaC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take stool softeners and miralax to help. It took me around 10 days post surgery and it sucked. If I had it to do over again I would have started miralax immediately. -
I usually cook. Post surgery I had to be really careful not to sample, otherwise you fill up on the wrong stuff. If I can I try to cook for them, then cook for me and eat. I’m still done before them so I clean (I’m often uncomfortable after eating and moving helps). I do miss sitting with the wife and kids, but it’s challenging not to over eat if I’m at the table. Some frozen easy options may be good right after surgery in case you have nausea

~December 2017 Sleevers~Updates
Losebig replied to Henny Rosè's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm making steady progress, though slower than before. I was 296 on 12-12 when I had surgery. I haven't weighed in for 3 weeks due to travel (vacation), but should be around 220 now. The last few weeks have been MUCH harder in terms of eating, I'm very hungry and trying to integrate some carbs. My daily calories have been 1200-1500 vs around 1,000. Still losing though and closing in on goal. I'm down to a 36 waist (from 42 or 44) and Large vs xxl or xxxl size. Energy is great and I'm super active. Hope other December folks are doing well! -
Why do all holidays seem to involve food? The kids don’t even like candy that much and now we have baskets of the stuff. I’m not super into sweets, but having pounds of candy laying around isn’t helpful to the cause!

Not tolerating foods well anymore?
Losebig replied to redhead_che's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’ve definitely had days like that, but usually only a day. Make sure you aren’t drinking too close to eating or eating too fast. I usually try moist and softer foods when that happens. -
How many cals/day do/did u consume during WL stage?
Losebig replied to ElseeG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It ramps up the further out you are. Mine has been around 1,000 for the last couple of months (i’m 3.5 out). Just focus on hitting protein and fluid goals. -
How do I stop myself from getting paranoid about meeting medical necessity

Remember approval isn't subjective. There shouldn't be any mystery unless you're unsure of requirements or results. -
My mood is flatlined-will it get better?
Losebig replied to happy wife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It took a few weeks to start feeling good, but it does get better. Some depression and other feelings are normal, partly due to the big changes and partly due to hormones released during weight loss. Fair warnin mood swings are also common -
Keeping my fingers crossed, but since WLS 3.5 months ago I haven't gotten sick despite kids and wife having colds and the flu twice. I think all the vitamins I'm on are helping. I've read about others having similar experiences.

I don't know how I'm screwing this up, but I feel like I am.
Losebig replied to kyron's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you track your calories? That may be worth trying just to see where you are. Nuts and cheese are pretty calorie dense, but may be just fine depending on the rest of the day. Unfortunately stalls are common and weight loss can be lumpy. Try really hard to get the water in, warm liquids will help your throat and are easier to drink too. -
Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery
Losebig replied to GirlShrinking's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds like you need to evaluate another program. Make sure it is a center of excellence (search on bariatric surgery center of excellence on google). I personally wouldn’t be comfortable getting surgery done by someone who is uncomfortable dealing with a super common hernia. -
Haha great idea That’s what the kids are getting next year!
