Good luck! Bring an eye mask and earplugs for peaceful sleep if you have them. Expect a lot of waiting tomorrow, especially if you're not first thing - delays are common. You'll do great!

Mine went away sometime in week 3. It was pain from the diaphragm, so I still feel it a little if I eat too much.
-
You might want a softener like Colace too. It's definitely an uncomfortable problem and will continue for a while.

Depends on your insurance, in my case it was pretty much immediate, maybe a day or two.

4 Weeks post op - I don’t want to do this anymore [emoji25][emoji25][emoji25]

Glad to hear it, good luck -
My program says never. If you must maybe something with minimal carbonation will be better (could use a soda stream or let a soda be mostly flat). Definitely not a great idea, far out it might stretch and be uncomfortable, closer to the surgery it might cause actual damage

Switched to pureed too quickly.

Any supplement with zinc will make you super naseaous if taken on an empty stomach. I always take my multi vitamins after meals to avoid it. You could try reverting to liquids a few days and see if that helps. Sometimes you just need a little more time. -
Definitely check with your team. That's where your stomach is so could be anything from surgical pain to a leak.

The Fat Prom...ok, they don't really call it that

What a great idea and a lot of fun. Wished my group did something similar, it's a great way to celebrate yourselves after a lot of very hard work. We need a bariatric pal gathering :-) -
Ca disability - will my employer know I had weight loss surgery?
Losebig replied to Linear❤️'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unless you sign a release they cannot share any specific medical info. I've had employees have similar things and all we see is they have a medical reason that requires the time. We aren't supposed to even really ask why. The insurance company does get all the info, but is bound by HIPPA rules so can't share it -
Sleeve Surgery Post Op
Losebig replied to WorkInProgress2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It definitely varies a lot between individuals. In pre-op I talked to folks who were doing the surgery and then was on the floor with them afterwards. Most did pretty well at least at that stage. I don't think its a super painful proceedure and most of the issues have to do with getting fluids and nutrition VS standard pain management. For me the procedure itself was fine, recovery room wasn't very fun (is it ever?), lots of pain that they struggled to control for a bit. On the floor I was doing ok and was up and walking very quickly, though had a lot of pain. They had to double the pain meds (I have a naturally high tolerance for them apparently). I had the hernia repair, which they say makes recovery WAY worse. I was set to go home after 1 night, but started to have stomach spasms (dry heaves) that were extremely painful and they kept me another night. I struggled with protein shakes because they were too thick and got stuck. The first night home was VERY rough. I couldn't get comfortable, couldn't do much water or protein and worse my pain pills weren't doing anything. Early in the morning I called the DR and they told me to get to the ER, I also had a very elevated pulse (200+) so went there via ambulance. I stayed another few nights in the hospital and eventually was doing MUCH better. The issue was that I was so swollen (probably from the hernia repair) that I couldn't get pain meds down and the intense pain and heaving caused a high heart rate (had a full work up and luckily don't have any heart issues). I actually think the extra hospital time helped a ton, I got lots of fluids and some nutrition and left in great shape. Things got a LOT better after that and now almost 5 weeks out I'm knocking on 40 lbs down and feel great. It is a lot of work though. Constantly drinking, eating small amounts, etc. You really have to be mindful because at least for me if I eat wrong or drink too quickly I'm in a world of pain. It's tough to argue with the results though! -
Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017
Losebig replied to Mary Stokley Gromer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Beans are super dense, I still can't eat refried beans without thinning them (sour cream works well). Try lighter things first like yogurt, scrambled eggs, chicken salad etc. if something doesn't go down well just try it again a week or two later. -
I did lentil soup puréed, vegetable beef soup puréed, chicken salad (lots of FF mayo dressing and keep most of the water from canned chicken), scrambled eggs (may not meet your definition) and protein shakes. You can try freezing a protein shake for something different too. Puréed Tuna is horrible (tastes like sand). Unfortunately it's tough to get protein at that stage without shakes. One thing you may want to try if they try to do low carb is Powerade zero VS G2, G2 has some carbs in it and to me they taste about the same. Good luck!

I think you'll probably be fine, as long as it doesn't trigger you to keep eating it or eat a bunch of other stuff you shouldn't. If you do have it enjoy it!

I'm a bit over 4 weeks out and I have noticed that at times I'm forgetful or otherwise feel like I'm working with less than full brain capacity. Symptoms are mildly concussion like (sort of feels like you're trying to think about something complex after a lot of drinks), and I'm sure are related to low calorie intake. I have felt the same on very low calorie diets before. The morning is the worst and it gets a bit better throughout the day as I eat. Definitely frustrating as I use my brain to make a living! Anyone else notice this? Anyone had this early on then see improvement as calorie intake went up and weight went down?

The Fat Prom...ok, they don't really call it that

Sounds like fun -
Thanks. Taking 2 multi vitamins a day, calcium supplements, B12 and D3 as well. Hitting water and protein goals. Good idea on the carbs, not diabetic, so maybe a few carbs at breakfast would help, I'm almost carb free, but the few I have could be switched to the AM to see if that helps.

It won't help the OP, but for others you can call your insurance and get a letter of coverage (not sure that's the right name). Basically they'll give you a letter that states exactly what's covered and what the costs under the plan would be. My DR required that in addition to their pre-approval check. In my case it saved me from a surprise because it turned out I had an extra $1,000 deductible for inpatient surgery that I didn't know about.

Protein Iceed coffee
Losebig replied to r.chapanar@gamil.com's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Great idea! Not allowed to have coffee yet (a couple weeks more), but when i do I know what I'm trying! -
Thanks helpful stuff. I didn't have any medical issues pre-surgery, so no meds to get off of or change the dosage. Definitely have lower blood pressure right now (notice if I stand fast and at the Dr's it's on the low end of normal now). I think its just the nutrients, I'm taking supplements for everything and get a blood test for nutrients next week I think. I suspect the almost total lack of carbs has a lot to do with it. Hopefully I will adjust!

Favorite VSG Youtube channels?
Losebig replied to VSGnewguy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not really a sleeve channel, but I stumbled on Boogie2988, who is someone who had a bypass. He was pretty honest about the whole process and effects and that was helpful for me when I was first deciding to get surgery. Definitely inspiring to watch others go through the process. -

Have noticed men making eye contact and smiling
Losebig replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sure its probably less pronounced for men - but a previous time when I had lost 100 lbs I couldn't figure out why people were staring at me for a while. Then I noticed that people were 100% nicer, saying hi, holding doors etc. It pissed me off because of how badly overweight people are treated - especially since I eventually gained it back and saw it go the other way. Probably a good study of society in here somewhere. For now it's a good compliment, your changes are obviously noticeable so that's something! -
Keep in mind purees will go down way easier (they slide through) than soft or regular foods, so you'll feel the restriction more then. The calories are probably ok, but as stated depends on the plan your team uses. In mine it'd be a lot early on, but fine, they want us in that range. We're supposed to be low carb, but beans are ok. Hummus has more net carbs than beans, so they said it's ok, but limit it to a serving a day. Same with nuts and seeds, fine, but only 1 serving per day. I've found I can't really eat hummus (too thick), but loved it pre surgery. Lentils are great and I've had a lot of lentil soup, which is also pretty high calorie.

I'm really sorry to hear about all the complications. Hang in there, it's got to get better. Are they putting you on Ursodoil for the gallbladder, if not that may help. One thing that may help with the liquids is drinking something warm. Either some kind of herbal tea (maybe like peppermint or something else that may also help nausea) or just warm water. I personally find that light cocoa goes down really easily VS water or anything else and warm liquids were a life saver early on (I had some complications the first week and had to go back to the hospital because I couldn't swallow anything). Hang in there it'll get better!
