Crazy CRAZY Weight Fluctuation Since Gallbladder Surgery
Losebig replied to mylighthouse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It must be water weight given the rapid fluctuation. Are you on any new meds or did you change your diet? -
Haha that's a funny one for sure!

Wow some awesome ideas on here! I'm jealous of everyone who can have vegetables and carbs. I can have vegetables, but after hitting my protein target have no room left... I think my target is higher than most maybe. I can dream though :-)

Good news, lets hope this does it.

Flying Solo and kind of scared

hang in there, you should be fine. The only thing I think I would have needed someone for was the ride home (my hospital required it). At home you're able to do things for yourself and should be fine. You don't want to drive on pain killers, but should be off those before the first DR visit so either get food delivered or have it stocked up (not like you eat much anyway in that first bit). Hopefully the DR gave you all the prescriptions pre-surgery so those are taken care of. Support groups would be helpful. There's plenty of online groups like this one too. You should do well, maybe just keep your phone on you in case you have a complication and pass out (extremely unlikely). -
Definitely have noticed this, both post surgery and before. Dieting is WAY harder on less sleep. I've been struggling with sleep since the surgery and notice a big difference when I sleep well VS when I don't.. Anyone else dream of food every night? I'm not hungry when i wake up and don't crave the food I dream about, i just dream about eating huge volumes of food...

Definitely part of it. My wife lost 60lbs and got to below her goal weight using Weight Watchers last year and it had a definite effect. As my doctors say - being thin helps everything! Now I'm catching up to my wife, which is nice... we'll be able to do activities like hiking that we haven't been able to do for years!

Wow the Chili looks good! I'm jealous of the scoops - still on no/low carb! I had 3 oz of ground turkey with some taco seasoning and .5 oz of sour cream to give it some moisture to make it easy enough to eat. Struggled to finish it still! Hoping to try Chili at some point shortly, its very satisfying! For the food log I keep one. I just moved it to the computer so it will automatically calculate protein, fluid and calories and I can keep running averages for weeks or months. No pictures, but that's a good idea. My NUT doesn't even really look at the food logs unless you're having an issue, so its more of an exercise for myself.

haha, he's probably losing weight on this diet too! Beats eating!

If you can swallow it regular pills you should be ok. They may be crushable too if they can be split.

Yes, not something I have experienced befor, but I'm assuming that's what it is. Can't sleep, minor mood swings, very short tempered, more emotional than normal. Losing a lot of weight quickly, so I imagine whatever else is stored in all that fat is coming out too.

Hang in there. I spent the last few days before looking for any deaths my surgeon had. There were a few, but long ago. I also looked at my programs mortality and complication rates against other common risks (I.e. Driving a car, getting another surgery). Believe it or not I felt much better afterwards. I was nervous right up until the surgery, but the thing that helped was that virtually no one regrets it long term and that there were 5 others getting the same exact surgery that day with the same surgeon... Keep busy, don't dwell on it and you'll be fine.

Sorry to hear about all the trouble. Hopefully the leak will close on its own, that's the best case scenario. The feeding tube is giving that time to happen. If it doesn't they hopefully can converts to a bypass. I'd imagine the leak is at the staple line (typically that is where they are). Did they diagnose it with a CT with oral contrast or a barium swallow? (They thought I might have one and we did th CT). Hopefully you're at the tail end of it.
-
I'd give it a shot and just be very polite. You might also ask if they do a cancellation list or something if he is booked. I moved a few things around and my program was accommodating.
-
My program uses something similar. Basically low/no carb and lean protein only for the first 6 - 12 months. So far it's working well. I think one of the advantages of low carb for a sleeve is that a lot of carbs become really small when you eat them (chips for example). You can eat a lot more carbs then dense protein before being full, so with lean protein it ends up being a very low calorie diet as well.

Hopefully your resting comfortably now!

If you haven't changed anything up, then it might be worth a call. You probably are getting some ab work with the incline, but if you haven't changed it then it's weird it would be sore now. I do know you can get some weird pain due to scar tissue further out. Worth checking it out.

Kind of worried - daily calorie intake
Losebig replied to Brittanyblue's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For whatever reason in my program they don't want us to worry about calories and focus on hitting the protein goal. They do have us low /no carb though, so it would be pretty hard to overeat given how hard it is to eat dense protein. In practice eating just protein to get to my goal I'm 800-1k calories, though they say it can take folks several weeks to get there. -
anyone have trouble sleeping after WLS?
Losebig replied to Losebig's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you still take a sleep aid, or did it get better on its own? I tried Melatonin with no effect, Benadryl works but is crappy sleep. I imagine the hormones or whatever are out of whack. Pretty annoying! -
I felt similarly right after, it felt like real physical hunger (VS head hunger) - but who knows. The good news is it got better and after a couple weeks out the hunger is fairly minimal, though not non-existent. Keeping busy will make it easier. Resist the urge to eat ahead of where you're supposed to be and just try and stay the course. Once you get to soft foods they are much more filling and having a small stomach will help satisfy you quickly

It sounds like you've had good luck with the surgery (100 lbs lost). I think that you may want to also look at other things in your life. Speaking from experience being thin doesn't bring happiness by itself. Sure it feels better and life is easier, but you need a lot more to be happy. You could be depressed or have other things going on, it might be a good idea to talk with someone, there may be things you can do that can help you feel much better.
-
Definitely call your surgeon. It can also be a sign of a leak if it persists. Hopefully nothing serious, but best to check.

Gallbladder removed during surgery
Losebig replied to Gotalose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't get why people insist on coming to the hospital. I only had my wife come and she was only there off and on once I got situated. It was good to be able to sleep and otherwise risk. Plus people were in and out and if you aren't sharing what you're doing there fully they very easily could overhear something. -
Haven't had them either... Are you eating anything acidic?

Protein shake and liquids schedule
Losebig replied to MagnoliaRose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I only have to wait 30 minutes. Here is what I do: Breakfast (immediately when I get up). I then try to drink 40 OZ between Breakfast and lunch. I have light cocoa for the first 20 oz, the warm liquid goes down MUCH easier, the second 20 is Powerade zero. Then I do lunch. After lunch I try for another 20 of water with lemon. Then dinner, and afterwards I try for another 20. Often I don't get a full 40 between breakfast and lunch I have to drink a bit more than 20 after bed. Unfortunately you end up eating and drinking all the time.
