    Stomach Flu

Hope it gets better. Going around here too and I'm scared to death to catch it. Things should be healed, so hopefully you can't damage anything

    Strange New Pain?

Definitely call, pain is normal popping isn't. Want to make sure you didn't pull a stitch or something.
  3. I seem to have lost an inch when they measured me too, kind of makes you wonder... I didn't complain because my BMI was on the edge too
  4. Probably a 2, had to be rushed back to the hospital via ambulance due to complications. It got way easier after week 1

    1 day post-op & feeling good!

Good to hear. It may be a bit harder to drink and pain could increase a little a day or two out as you get swollen, but hopefully not. Hoping the rest of it is as smooth as it has been so far!
  6. Shouldn't effect things. I'm surprised they did not measure you though

    Pains -Post-Op Day 4

Yes, very common. I had to take pain pills off and on for the first week or so. Anything that increases pressure in your abdomen is going to hurt
  8. Talk to your team there may be other delivery methods that will help.
  9. Multi vitamins have zinc, which will make you super nauseous if taken on an empty stomach. Try taking them right after a meal and see if that helps

    1 day post op

To give you an idea I had no fluids the day of, the next day I had a couple of ounces maximum and was drinking from medicine cups. It got a little better after, but I was having a couple cups a day until about a week out, then I started to get close to the fluid goal. After 10 - 12 days I was hitting it consistently... so you're doing great!
  11. Thanks. I've had a couple decent nights of sleep, I've been having some sleepy time tea a bit before bed and trying to be more mellow. I see the DR next week so will mention and see if they suggest anything. I think part of it is I'm trying to catch up at the end of the day on protein so I eat a bunch an hour or so before bed and then have a big boost of energy.. so trying to cut that out too and balance a little better in the day.

Sounds like you did well! Tolerating fluids this early is a great sign. Hopefully it'll be an easy recovery.

    Surgery in 30 minutes

Hopefully you're almost done by now! Hope it went well and you're feeling much more relaxed coming out of it.
  14. A lot of people say they are tired. I felt ok once I was consistently hitting protein and fluid goals. Nausea has definitely increased a lot, though mostly around eating or drinking too fast. Vitamins on an empty stomach also cause nausea so be aware of that.

    When to increase intake?

You should be able to increase liquids to your comfort level (small sips only) without any risk of damage. Just go slow and if it hurts slow down or pause. As others mentioned most programs recommend stopping drinking 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating (others want 60 minutes). Sounds like you're making good progress.

What was for breakfast this morning?

Normally I have 1/2 cup of egg-whites and .5 oz of low fat mozzarella in an omelette, or a chobani fat free Greek yogurt. Today was a bit different because I ate out for breakfast and got 2 eggs and a sausage link. Breakfast is the easiest meal to eat out because of the easy choices and almost everywhere you can order Ala cart.

    First Post

I'm just over 5 weeks out and have had some eating pains, but usually after having more than 4 oz of dense protein or drinking too fast. I do find that I can eat more if I focus on softer foods (i.e. I can eat 4.5 oz of really well ground chicken salad, but only 3 oz of steak). I always chew 25 times and am taking tiny bites (I use cocktail silverware or baby silverware). Smaller bites are key otherwise I'm full immediately or in pain. I also really need to wait 30 minutes after drinking to eat and 30 - 60 to drink again after eating. My program focuses on protein for the first 6 - 12 months, so no or close to no carbs. This makes hitting the protein goal easier because its all I eat and I get 80 - 90g consistently. This is really important because if I miss the protein goal I have no energy. In general I'm hitting it and my energy has been very good so I can do normal activities and exercise lightly. Fluid is also important and I try to get 60 - 80 ounces a day, which means I'm always drinking, but I have found warm liquids are way easier and seem to ease my stomach. Vitamins are 2 chew-able multi vitamins with iron a day, B12 (weekly dis-solvable) and calcium with D3 2x a day. If you can only do a few 2 TSP at 4 weeks then you may have a problem and should make sure your Dr knows. If you're chewing it right and eating slow most folks are able to do a few ounces or more at 4 weeks.
  18. Very unlikely since it sounds like your husband also uses the scale, but a few people reported weird readings on electronic scales if their batteries were low. Might be worth a try.

Able to eat more than I should

If your not losing try tracking everything that goes in your mouth in great detail (portion, calories, protein, liquid, time). If you keep a detailed log that will help you make a concrete plan with your nutritionist. Most folks should be getting somewhere around 800-1200 calories a day a few months out. Likely you are getting too many from liquid calories, consuming too much (though that should be hard if you aren't constantly eating) or very high density foods.

    Hormones Going Nuts?

Dr just said like with exercise you can do it up to your comfort. If it hurts stop. They did say to limit pressure on your abdomen. We waited about 2 weeks, honestly before that I felt like crap anyway

    Pain pills before Surgery

Very unlikely it is an issue. It is completely out of your system in a couple days. You could call the dr and let them know.
  23. Yes absolutely normal. Warm beverages seem to go down a little bit easier. I also put some powdered lemon in water, which helped for some reason. I think it stopped hurting at about a week. I'm 5 weeks out and still feel some weird sensations when drinking warm liquids. I never got hiccups before, I get them (though very briefly) all the time now when eating or drinking.
  24. Early on you won't be able to tell if you're full. If you over eat / drink you will know though, most likely through severe pain and nausea. Just sip slowly and time out meals so they're at regular intervals throughout the day (my program says 3 - 4 hours apart). If you eat / drink slow then you will start to feel some discomfort before real pain, the second you feel any type of discomfort just stop. If you feel lots of pain it usually passes in about 30 minutes as stuff empties out. You're likely swollen so probably can't get in the full capacity yet. On liquids and purees its hard to really get 'full', but you can have too much too quickly. When you start soft foods and solids and are a few weeks out you start feeling more traditional fullness, again the second you feel it stop eating immediately. Tiny bites are key as is chewing (I do 25 times). If you eat too fast you will feel pain and/or get full really quick. To help I use cocktail forks and spoons (baby silverware works too, but the cocktail ones were cheap in huge packs on amazon). Once you get to soft and regular foods you can pre-portion out things to cut down on the risk of overeating and feeling sick. I for example will usually have 3.5oz of most protein and if I feel full I may not eat the last .5 OZ, 4 OZ is too much and hurts. Go slow, pay attention to how things feel and know that you'll have times when you don't feel great because you ate too much. Good luck!
  25. Awesome, you must feel great!
