Revision Recovery Timeline - Band to Bypass
TX_KB replied to spealex's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had band to bypass revision on 12/22. I was fine by the next day and went home from the hospital. Had no problems with liquids. Was walking around. Only needed pain meds at night before bed and the occasional Tylenol. Was off pain meds by the first week post-op. I had a little soreness but nothing too bad. No nausea. Gas pain was gone by about day 3. I took off 3 weeks from work bc I do 12 hour shifts that require physical activity. I could have gone back at 2 weeks. The first week, the main problem was fatigue and weakness. I took a nap every day. Once I could start eating more real food, I had more energy. I have young children and was able to take care of them the first week. Recovery from this has been better than the band for me. -
I’m a little over 2 weeks post op revision from lap band to RNY. The last 2 days I’ve weighed, I’ve gained weight! How is this possible? I’m getting my water in each day, getting my protein in and sticking to the plan. I’m not cheating with high calorie foods/drinks. I’ve gained 2 lbs in 2 days. What is happening?!? Help!
-
Yes, I’ve gained 2 pounds in the past 2 days. I’m hungry all the time and don’t feel much restriction. I’m a little over 2 weeks post op RNY. Feeling pretty discouraged right now Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 252

Put on a size 16 jeans yesterday that haven’t fit in years. I pulled them out of the back of my closet just to see if they fit but wasn’t expecting them to. I was shocked when they went over my hips and I could actually zip them. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 251

EIGHT DAYS after after Lap RNY...surgical glue falling off?!!!!
TX_KB replied to NatureLover888's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I peeled off all of my glue at about 5 days post op bc I was having an allergic reaction to it. At my 1 week post op appointment, my surgeon said it was fine bc she was going to take it off at that appointment anyway. I don’t advise that you do this, but if it’s coming off on its own, it’s probably fine. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 251 -
4th jan 2018 surgery post op 3days
TX_KB replied to Lumarsolxx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! Each day gets better! I think a lot of us went through regret initially, but got through the immediate post-op phase and are glad we had the surgery. Just keep sipping fluids. Sugar free popsicles helped me a lot with the dry mouth and thirst. You’ll probably feel totally different a week from now. Just take it one day at a time! Yes! I loved having them, especially in the first days post op. They go down different than a sip of crystal light. I still like having them. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

I have over a week left on the purée diet then 2 weeks on soft. I’m so sick of it. I’ve had refried beans, the ricotta bake, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, yogurt, puréed chili, tuna salad, smoothies, and everything from the liquid diet. Anyone have any new ideas for another week of purees? Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

Try Syntrax nectar protein. Lots of flavors Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

Can you have strained soups? Split pea soup with a scoop of genepro protein powder has been great for me as well as the ricotta cheese bake recipe that everyone talks about. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

Going back to work and eating schedule for pureed food.
TX_KB replied to TeresaBlount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A thermos that keeps food warm or cold should help, along with an insulated lunch kit. Refried beans, tuna “salad” made with tuna and light mayo/yogurt and puréed, soups, shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese bake Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253 -
There are lots of chair based exercises you can do. A quick Google search should turn up quite a few. Arm raises, calf raises, bicep curls, etc. Good for you for wanting to start out with good habits! Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE POST OP--in Pain and in tears!
TX_KB replied to NatureLover888's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would ask to speak to a patient relations representative before you leave. Document everything, everyone’s name who comes in your room and what they do. I’m sorry this has happened to you! Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253 -
9 days post op, down 10 lbs since surgery, 17 total. Knees already feel boney and like I need a pillow between them to sleep on my side. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 256

First time posting here- Had my revision from lap band to RNY yesterday. It’s not as bad as I had built up in my head. Took a while for anesthesia to wear off. I had ice chips first, then water, and a sugar free popsicle last night. Everything is going down ok. The gas pain is the worst part but it’s tolerable. Walking helps. Hoping to go home today. The hospital bed is uncomfortable and people come in and out of my room constantly, so I’m looking forward to a good night sleep. The actual incision sites are not very painful. Feels like I did a bunch of sit ups. Peeing feels a little weird. Who knew we used so many abdominal muscles to pee. I also have cotton mouth, which I’m hoping gets better. Here’s to a new me for the new year.

Opinions on sleeve vs. bypass?
TX_KB replied to jayleensmama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon said that the sleeve has a higher regain percentage than the bypass but a lot of it has to do with food choices. There are people who have been successful and unsuccessful with both operations. See what your surgeon recommends and reasons why. Good luck! Bypass , sleeve, lapband?
TX_KB replied to Rudedogg89's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would recommend against the lap band. I had a lap band for 10 years. Lost a lot of weight at first but only bc I was vomiting everything I ate. So I learned that I could eat ice cream and other “slider” foods. I couldn’t eat healthy foods bc they would get stuck. I hardly ever felt a restriction, no decrease in appetite, and i regained all of the weight. My surgeon doesn’t even do lap bands anymore either bc they have such a high failure rate and lots of complications. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 257 -

Found these at H-E-B. They look good and nice and smooth for the liquid phase. No added sugar and the spinach one has 5g of protein in a cup.

Adhesive reaction
TX_KB replied to depressed_bandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes mine looks like that. It’s getting blistered and itches like crazy. I peeled off a bunch of the glue surrounding the incisions but not on the actual incision and that’s helped a lot. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 257 -
Does everyone go through this feeling??
TX_KB replied to md73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes I wrestled back and forth if I should have the surgery, which surgery to have, could I just lose the weight myself, etc. I’m only 4 days post op, but so far, I’m glad I did it. I think it’s normal to have doubts before you have surgery. It’s a big decision. Try and think about why you started the process in the first place. Best wishes for a healthy surgery and speedy recovery! -
Getting an anxiety medicine in the pre op area helped me relax. I was super nervous too! Talk to your nurses and medical team. They can help calm you down. They talked me through everything. Bring several of your own pillows and a heating pad. The hospital bed is uncomfortable and my pillows helped me get more comfortable. The heating pad felt good on my back where most of the gas pain was. The gas pain was the worst part for me. Walk walk walk! It helps move the gas so you can get rid of it. I woke up with extreme dry mouth. Ice chips helped with that. I liked ice chips, water, and popsicles post op. Bring loose stretchy clothes to go home in. Be prepared to be sleepy for a couple of days. It takes a while to feel semi normal. Post op day 3 has been the best for me. I’ve been more awake, feel stronger, and able to eat more full liquids. I think knowing what to expect helps. Expect to tire more easily than usual for a while so lower your expectations as to what you usually do for your kids. I have 3 young children and it’s frustrating that I can’t go at my normal pace. Get as much done as you can before you have surgery, like laundry, cleaning, meal prep for your family, grocery shopping, and getting all of your post op liquids. My husband had been great at picking up the slack so let people help you. If you feel discouraged, reach out. People on here can relate and can encourage you. Good luck! It hasn’t been as bad as I had imagined.

I had a sinus infection and had to reschedule my surgery bc my surgeon was concerned about risk of pneumonia post op.

Band to bypass revision on 12/22. Having a hard time getting protein in. Sipping but get gas pains after sipping anything other than water. I’m feeling very weak and still very sleepy. Want to sleep all day but force myself to be awake and drink fluids. Anyone else experience this? Starting to feel discouraged and definitely Feeling like I shouldn’t have done this right before Christmas [emoji53].
