    Pills after surgery

Do you take calcium separately? I know you can’t take iron and calcium at the same time, so how does that work for you? Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

    Pills after surgery

I am definitely ordering these as soon as I get cleared for pills. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR
  3. I’ve given up on protein drinks for a while. Now I am drinking chocolate mootopia, and 8oz has 12g of protein. They also have lactose free, so that has helped me. I am also using genepro but counting one scoop as only 15g of protein. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

    VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

LoL I look exactly the same as I did before the surgery, and forgot to take photos before I went in. This is as good as it gets and will have to work for my “before” photo. 🤪🤪🤩 Saying that, I can’t wait to put real “after” photos up. I hope to take photos from all three angles on a monthly basis. By the way, it’s super awkward to take photos of yourself. LoL Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

I haven’t even tried to take my vitamins, but I hope to start tomorrow. I took them the night before my VSG and hey made me nauseous because it was on an empty stomach, and I am terrified of throwing up now. Wish me luck tomorrow... 9. I am curious to see what everyone’s post op diet is. I had VSG on 4/16 and have 7 days of clear liquids. I can have powdered protein but can’t handle the taste, so I have a bit of protein through the clear premier proteins. I will be sure to increase my protein when I can have shakes again, but I am doing good on the fluids. For the next three weeks I am on a full liquid diet. (I hope this helps a bit with weakness and hunger, I am struggling on the clear diet) Then it is puréed for another 3 weeks. Then we finish with soft foods for 4 weeks. My doc says he is really conservative, so I am interested to know how other people are doing on their post op diet. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG scheduled for 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

    VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

Day 7 after VSG: I weighed in this morning at 217, with a starting weight of 241 in December and a surgery weight of 229. This clear liquid phase is no joke. I’ve had moments of regret, only to pop out of it and remind myself that everyone feels like this and it gets better. Plus, I can start full liquids tomorrow and I think that will help with energy. Two of my five incisions are pretty sore still, but I don’t feel the other three. I’m also not taking any meds except the pain killer at night. I am a side sleeper, so that is helping me since I have to sleep on my back. Oddly enough, the smell of food seems to help me right now too. I might be the only one that feels that way, lol. In a sense, it makes me feel like I have eaten something. I am pretty weird, as I type that out. LoL Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR
  11. I’m on day seven after surgery and I am so hungry. I can start full liquids tomorrow, which means premade protein shakes, creamy soup, yogurt and pudding. I can’t wait, and I know it’s not solids, but I had to be better than the first seven days. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

It’s so good to hear from someone who had surgery on the same day. I actually feel a little better today, and the pain has definitely subsided. I broke down and had a protein shake this morning, and I feel like that was super beneficial. I don’t feel as shaky or weak, and even though I am supposed to wait until Monday, I think I needed it. I don’t want to push it too much though, so I will focus on clear proteins for the rest of the day. It’s so odd how my tastes have changed. The thought of broth still sends me over the edge, lol. I just can’t do it. I will stick with crystal light and popsicles for now. I am definitely ready for Monday though. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

Day 5: I am weak and it’s a pain in the booty. I hope I have more energy in the full liquid phase. I pain isn’t too bad, I’ve only taken the pain medicine at night to help sleep. I am down 10 pounds already, so that is cool. I’ve also noticed that I can’t handle even the thought of certain foods. For example, all of the broth I made is still sitting in my freezer, and won’t be coming out anytime soon. Yuck! For now I sip, sip, sip. Lord help me make it to Monday and the full liquid phase. Time off from work

I had the VSG on Monday and went back to work on Wednesday. I work from home though and have taken breaks as needed. I have no energy on this clear diet and it has been a struggle. I am hoping that when I am on a full liquid diet next week, with more calories and protein, I will feel a little more normal. VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

I am now 4 days out and struggling to get my water and protein in. I can’t handle the taste of the powdered protein, it makes me gag. I was able to get 40 oz of water yesterday but only half of a protein shake. Today I’ve had one protein shake and hope to have close to 60 ounces of water. Each day will get better, and I know I will feel so much better when I can have a premade shake on Monday. They don’t have the aftertaste like the powdered ones do. My doc really wants us to focus on water this week though, and says that we have enough of a store to last one week, if we can’t get the protein down this week. I’m just doing what I can at this point. Also, TMI, but I’ve had watery bowel movements yesterday and today. That has been less than pleasant. 17. Today is my first day home after having the gastric sleeve on Monday. I’ve only been able to drink 24 oz of water and half a protein shake. I really hope I am able to drink more each day. I can only use protein powders this week too, and they taste horrible now. I can’t wait to be able to have the pre-made ones that don’t have such an after taste. VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

So I am home now, and feeling pretty sore. I have been too scared to take the pain meds they sent me home with, because I am afraid of throwing up, but I decided to take a dose tonight. Luckily my doc also gave me pills for nausea, so I am hoping that will help. Sipping is pretty painful right now, so I hope that doesn’t last too long. Tomorrow morning I will try and get a protein shake down, and as much water as possible. Ideally I would like to get two protein shakes in, but I’m not sure that will happen yet. I went to my daughters tball game tonight, so that was fun, but I am exhausted. I go back to work tomorrow already, but I work from home so I can take breaks as needed. I may end up taking a half day, but I teach Seniors at a virtual high school and I feel terrible being out of pocket for so long. Well, it all went well. I have five incisions and I’m sore, but not in terrible pain (some incisions in photo are from gallbladder removal in December). I am so thirsty though, it’s the worst because I am used to sipping all day. They did give me lemon flavored swabs but yuck, lol! One was enough, for sure. The gas hasn’t been nearly as bad as having my gallbladder out, but let me knock on wood real quick. LoL Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG scheduled for 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

April 19th (or about) surgery buddies??

My VSG is on Monday. I feel like the pre-op diet must be the hardest part. I have three weeks of liquids after my surgery, one week clear and two weeks full, but my understanding is I won’t be as hungry. I hope that is true!! Goodness... VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

So I am on a two day clear diet to prepare for surgery. I bought bone broth and y’all, it was terrible. I have boxed chicken broth too, but I just can’t to it, not for 8 more days. So we went to Walmart and bought stuff to make homemade chicken noodle soup. I also bought a little tiny strainer to strain the broth, and then our three year old will eat most of the noodles and chicken. It was a win-win, and knocked out meals for a few days for her. I also found little half cup plastic containers so when the soup is cooled, I plan on straining the broth and filling those up. I am having surgery Monday and probably won’t want soup until Wednesday (if even then), so I am going to store them in the freezer for now. VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

Saturday, April 14 I am now two days from surgery. I have moments of “what am I doing”, and then snap out of it. I am more excited than anything, and ready to get this done. I haven’t lost much more weight on the liquid diet and that really frustrates me. I followed the diet with the exception of three days, and those days my calories were still low. I am not sure why I haven’t lost more but that is life I guess. My doctor has patients take Prilosec and an anti-nausea medicine for two days prior to surgery, so I’m about to head up and pick those up at the pharmacy. I was lucky that my insurance is only charging $15 for the anti-nausea meds because my surgeon said that most insurances don’t cover it. I will also be picking up some gas drops and liquid Tylenol. Also, this is kind of embarrassing but I have had a hard time with constipation since starting the two week diet. Perhaps it’s the protein shakes?? I don’t know, but I bought Miralax yesterday to see if it helps. Anyhow, I will be posting some before photos this weekend. Those are always fun.
