How long did your incision glue last?
TexasMommy80 replied to baribetty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 18 days post op and have 1 left. Three days ago I took two off, and one of my wounds leaked clear fluid. Stuff like that nearly makes me pass out, lol. Anyhow, that is normal but I still had to call and ask, it freaked me out. Getting the Sleeve with a 35-37 BMI?
TexasMommy80 replied to gully90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started with a BMI of 37 and three weeks after surgery I have a BMI of 34. My expected weight loss from my surgery days is around 70 pounds. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 Starting BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 Starting Weight: 241 Surgery Weight: 229 Current Weight: 213 (17 days post op) GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR -
My doctor had a light bulb comparison. If you eat clean, your light bulb is always shinning bright. If you have a treat here and there, it might dim a bit, bit you are still good. It’s even better if you go out and walk or workout afterwards, and that will make up lightbulb good as new. If you cheat day in and day out, you might eventually need a new lightbulb, meaning a new start or a good look at your food choices. It makes sense to me. He is totally in the camp of everything in moderation, but as others have said, you might have trigger foods or not be able to control your limits. That means that everything in moderation is different for all of us. Lower BMI and pregnancy
TexasMommy80 replied to TexasMommy80's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I’ve actually had the surgery now and I’ve talked to my doctor about this. The first one or two months, it is dangerous to get pregnant because you are taking in so few calories. If you get pregnant after that, the issue is not safety as much as is it that your weight loss will stall. So, if you are close to your goal weight, you are good to go. My NUT also said that there are foods you can eat that are still healthy, but higher calorie. They know that I am about to be 38 so I can’t afford to wait two years. We will start trying this winter, which will be almost 8 months after my VSG. Hello! I have a few questions about having a baby after the gastric sleeve. When I have my sleeve, I will be at about 225 pounds to start, with a goal weight of 150-160. If I hit that goal weight earlier than a year, say like 6 months for example, then would it be ok to start trying for a baby then? Everything I have read says that you should wait to hit your goal weight, so it wouldn’t necessarily take a year to two years for everyone?

VSG candidate, boyfriend NOT onboard!
TexasMommy80 replied to Futuresleevie18's topic in Rants & Raves
I’m sorry you are going through this, but if your boyfriend is using this as a way out, the may have more issues than you are aware of. My boyfriend was very much against mine and had no problem expressing that. He thought it was too risky considering my only issue was severe osteoarthritis (even though I’ve already had a knee replacement at 36). He eventually came around and now fully supports me. He is a body builder and he has been looking up healthy recipes we can both eat when I am able to again. He knows that I want to change up my focus in the gym too, so he is making me a new workout plan. I think in the long run, it’s been good for us. Might be cancelling Surgery. Given the choice would you do it again?
TexasMommy80 replied to Chickensoup's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I learned to not take advice on weight loss surgery unless the person had went through it themselves. That is the only way to really get a realistic idea of what it is like. Diarrhea, anyone? [emoji51]
TexasMommy80 replied to AngelaZ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I developed severe lactose intolerance after my VSG. I had horrible diarrhea and my heart rate would increase. I tried the lactose pills and they helped a bit, but not nearly enough. I now drink muscle milk and use genepro. I know GENEPRO is controversial and I am probably not getting the Protein that they claim (or equivalency), but I wanted to give it a try and see how it goes for me. Mine does not test either. He does do an END during the procedure but that may be normal, I really don’t know. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 Starting BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 Starting Weight: 241 Surgery Weight: 229 Current Weight: 213 (17 days post op) GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!
TexasMommy80 replied to Itsnicoleee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That seems like torture! I had 7 days of clear liquids and 2 additional weeks of full liquids. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 Starting BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 Starting Weight: 241 Surgery Weight: 229 Current Weight: 213 (17 days post op) GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR -
I had VSG on the 16th too! I am down 16 pounds since surgery day, 28 total from the start of the process. I hit the “three week stall” this week, but that is ok. I am supposed to start puréed on Monday but I am traveling for work. I will be living out of a hotel Monday through Thursday for the next two weeks, so I am going to experiment with tiny amounts of puréed foods this weekend. I am so excited to be off of full liquids. I don’t think I will be able to have soup again for months, lol. 🤮🤮🤮 Age: 37 Height: 5’6 Starting BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 Starting Weight: 231 Surgery Weight: 229 Current Weight: 213 (17 days post op) GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

How did you decide on your goal weight?!
TexasMommy80 replied to bookworm1983's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 5’6 and pretty athletic. I would rather be curvy and muscular, than a lower weight with no muscle at all. My doctors goal was 145, I said 160. I would be happy with a fit 170 though. VSG on 4/16/18: My journey
TexasMommy80 replied to TexasMommy80's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So I leave on Sunday for work and will not be home until Thursday evening. The following Sunday, I do it all over again. I am trying to figure out how to do the puréed stage when I am living out of a hotel. I am thinking a protein shake for breakfast, and perhaps egg whites or puréed chili for dinner. Luckily there is a Cracker Barrel and Chili’s right by my hotel, so those might work. I traveled for work a few weeks before my surgery and stayed at the same hotel, and luckily my room had a microwave and fridge. There is no guarantee that my room this time will, so I might call them tomorrow so they can let me know. Considering I am there for 4 nights, that would be so much easier than a cooler. There are a lot of foods I could bring that I could prepare, especially using my little hand mixer. Anyhow, other than that, I am trying to make it two more days on full liquids. I feel ready for the puréed stage and will be starting two days early. I want to test a few foods before traveling for work. My surgeon said it was ok too, since he keeps us on 3 weeks of liquids and not 2 like many other programs. Outside of work, I am so ready to get back into the weight room. I have a lot of anxiety about losing muscle right now, but I know I need to wait three more weeks. I miss it! My office recommends egg whites and ham, puréed and then topped with a little cheese. I’m still on full liquids so this sounds wonderful at this point. I am so tired of anything sweet. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

I had a 90 day supervised diet, had to see a psychiatrist, have a heart test and a letter from my PCP. I am not sure if the heart test was my surgeons qualification or insurance, but I am really healthy other than severe osteoarthritis and being chunky. Questioning everything
TexasMommy80 replied to EsoKev's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yeah, my surgeon calls his low BMI patients (35-39) dieting pros. He said we have no problem losing, just can’t maintain. LoL he is right! I had VSG on 4/16. My starting weight was 241, surgery weight was 229 and 16 days post op, I am 214. I am 5’6 and 37 years old. Started with a BMI of 38 and it is 34 today. They both take it on and off, but like me, it doesn’t work much for them anymore. They just didn’t have the side effects I had. I am so glad I stuck with my decision and had the VSG. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR -
Desperate Confessions.....When your mind "went there" to lose weight

I kept taking phentermine on and off, knowing that it didn’t work for me anymore, I had chest pains when I took it, and suffered debilitating anxiety when I was on it, that sometimes took weeks to go away once I stopped. I can’t begin to tell you how bad I felt on that stuff, but when I hit 241 pounds, that was it. I needed to end the cycle so I went to a bariatric surgeon. The first thing my mom and sister said was it was a terrible idea and that I should get back on phentermine. Nope! Never again. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR -
I am having the hardest time with protein. I had some stomach issues with protein before my VSG, but now it happens every time. I drink my protein shake and before I am even half way done, I am in the bathroom with severe stomach cramps and diarrhea. I’ve tried three different brands now and it’s all the same. I’ve even tried the powdered with lactose free milk. Any suggestions? Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG: 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR

I had VSG two weeks ago and we will try for another when I weigh less. It is not two years out like many programs recommend, but we hope to start trying next December. My doc said it’s ok as long as it doesn’t happen in the first few months. By December I should be close to my goal weight, so time will tell.
