    Post your progress pics!

I am 3 months out and down 32 pounds from the date of my VSG. I have another 30 to lose to hit goal. My boyfriend hasn't seen me wear fitted clothing in years because of my weight. We are going on vacation in two weeks so I bought this dress to wear. I'm not sure I am ready to wear it yet, but I am trying to gain the confidence for it. 3. I am 5'6 and started at 229 on 4/16. Today I am 195, so I am down 34 in 12 weeks. I am losing much slower than others but I expected that. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Rigid or relaxed?

I may get yelled at by the food police but we are going on vacation in two weeks too, and I plan to enjoy it. If my family goes out for a burger or Mexican food, I will have some too. I might even have a small drink or two. I will also be walking a ton, so it will probably all cancel each other out. I eat pretty healthy for the most part and foods don't trigger me to continue eating, so that I my plan. Saying the, I will also keep healthy Snacks and foods around, not because I feel like I have to diet, but it's because what my family is used to now. 5. I am three months post op and feel completely normal, except I get full much faster. I eat pretty healthy but I have definitely had a treat here and there. I also work out at least 4-5 hours a week at the gym, so I don’t feel bad about having a tiny treat when I do. You will have many people on this site tell you want you can and can’t do, but that is really between you and your surgeon. My surgeon is a big fan of finding a “diet” that you can stick with for the rest of your life. He doesn’t believe in total restriction of foods, and has even warned that those behaviors have led to some people developing eating disorders. I am currently eating about 900-1,000 calories a day and our ultimate goal is 1,200. I also don’t pay attention to how many times I chew anymore, you just get used to it.

    Dying for bread

I often eat one piece of whole wheat bread with peanut butter. It’s a good snack before hitting the gym. I am three months out but my progression allowed it at about 6 weeks.
  7. I am in Round Rock and went with Cedar Park Surgeons. They have a bariatric center that is run by a husband and wife. I highly recommend them, even though it might be a bit of a drive.

Can I have a half glass of Wine with a steak

I am 12 weeks post op and had steak for the first time last night. It went down ok, but not as easy as chicken or fish. I definitely could not eat as much as other foods. I think if the steak has been more tender, it would have definitely helped. As for alcohol, I doubt a small glass of wine will hurt you. I’ve had a couple of small drinks by the pool this summer. I just stick with one small one, and I am just fine. We are heading to the beach in three weeks so I wanted to experiment with alcohol before I went, lol.

    April Sleevers check in!

VSG on 4/16 Started at 241 and on the day of my surgery, I was 229. Today I am 197. My goal is to hit 170, although my docs prefer 160. I think that is reasonable, but when I hit 170, we are going to try for our second baby. I figure I will be 6-8 months out at that time, and my doc is ok with it (as long as I don’t get pregnant in the first few months after).

    VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

Today I am still weighing in at 197 but I have definitely lost inches. I noticed that my workout clothes were becoming too big, so I made a trip to Walmart. I have always carried my weight in my lower body so I was wearing an 18 before surgery, and I was able to buy a 12/14 in workout capris. They are a tad tight, but the larger size was almost too big. I figure that as lose even 10 more pounds, the pants will fit perfectly. As for shirts, I easily fit into a medium again. It has been so long since I was able to wear that size...I just wish my lower body lost inches as fast as my upper body, LoL. As for exercise, I really want to start jogging again. I had a total knee replacement at 36 though, and I have had some complications. I need larger spacers placed into my replacement, but I just can't stomach the thought of surgery again. It is nothing that needs to be done right now, and I am trying to build more muscle to see if I can counteract it in any way. The weight loss so far has really helped with the knee pain, so I am interested to see how I feel in the next few months. For now, it is the elliptical and weight room.

    GENEPRO? What's up?

Genepro doesn’t claim to have 30g of protein, but it claims to be equivalent. People often call it a scam yet fail to mention that part. I will say this, while some may be completely against it, my doc has followed the lawsuit and still highly recommends it. I know this may be coincidence too, but I recently ran out and tried to get my protein by food alone. As I am only 10 weeks out, my protein levels dropped and I immediately saw a huge increase in hair loss. I decided to order more and started taking it again, and within about a week, the hair loss lightened up. It didn’t stop and I don’t expect it to, but there was a huge difference. Now that may be coincidence, but I am listening to my body first. By the way, there are several currently lawsuits pending that claim many of the protein brands we drink don’t actually have the amount of protein they claim. That comes with the industry, it is not regulated enough for any of us to really know. So my point it, find one that works for you and listen to your body.

    Thought I was dying

I was reading your post and it was exactly how I felt when I had gallstones. I am glad that you have it figured out. You will feel so much better soon!

    VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

I am now 2.5 months out and a stomach bug hit our family. My daughter had it first, and it lasted a full four days. I thought I would make it out without getting sick, but nope. Ya’ll, it was terrible. It was a full four days of not being able to eat or drink anything, nonstop vomiting or heaving, and watery diarrhea that was even worse (TMI). I honestly think it was the most sick I have ever been, considering how long it lasted. I started getting really weak and dizzy on Sunday so I had my mom take me to the ER while my boyfriend watched the kids. I was super dehydrated, which was no surprise. The doctor said that I was lucky that I did not pass out at home. My blood pressure was down to 109/60 and my heart rate when standing was 125. My normal blood pressure is usually a bit lower than 120/80, and my heart rate is usually in the 70s when standing. Anyhow, two bags of fluids later, and after my blood pressure went up a bit, they released me to go home. I feel better today but I am still somewhat nauseous and unable to eat or drink much. I luckily managed to get about 400 calories in today and about 40oz of water, but my stomach just can’t handle much right now. I think I will be pretty close to normal by tomorrow, so my goal tomorrow is to just drink all day. Anyhow, I weighed in this morning at 198, but won’t take an official weight until I have been better for a few days.
  14. It’s so interesting to read this because our clinic wants you at at least 800 calories at two months out, working your way up to 1200. I am 2.5 months and eat 1000-1200 a day

Pregnancy - 8 months post op

Congrats and good luck! We hope to start trying for our second this winter. I will only be about eight months out, but should be close or at goal by then. 😀

Are you happy with your sleeve

I am 2.5 months out and feel 100% normal, except my portions are smaller. I can eat what I want, although I am choosing to eat healthy. I have had a few treats here and there, but always hit my protein and water goals. I am also back in the gym, 4-5 days a week. My only complaint was a long stall, but I think I needed to increase my calories. Once I started eating 900-1000 calories, especially when working out, I started losing again.

We go to the clinic every three months and then yearly after the first year. If I don’t get my weight to start dropping again, I may need to go sooner.

Small NSV: I have never been able to wear this tank that I got as a gift from my boyfriend, because my belly was too big. It doesn’t fit perfectly yet, but I will be able to wear it to the gym by football season!

Hi! Congrats on the 50 pound weight loss, that is amazing! I feel really good too and I am so glad I did this. I have run into a really long stall though. Four days ago I weighed in at 204 and then the last few mornings I’ve bounced between 204 and 206. This stall is running a good 3 weeks now, so I think it’s time to change a few things. I have recently started working out at the gym again so I am going to increase my calories. I was eating around 600-700, and that includes one protein shake. Our office wants us eating more, so I increased it to 900 the past few days. With working out like I do, I know need to increase it even a bit more. I am hoping that once I do that, I will see the scale start moving again.
  20. I haven’t had a single issue with food, outside of milk. It is so nice, I eat mostly healthy but have allowed myself a treat here and there. I don’t believe in the theory of absolute restriction from anything with carbs or sugar, and neither does my doctor. I have noticed that we eat pretty healthy meals (and did so before the surgery), so my diet hasn’t changed much. I have stopped snacking so much, as tiny portions and water keep me full. It is so nice and the best thing I have ever done.

Am I On Track With my Weight Loss?

I am down 22 pounds since surgery, and 35 total. I seem to be in another stall and stuck at 207, although it is about time for smaller clothes. 😀😀
  22. I am now 6 weeks post op and feel 100% back to normal. The first few weeks suck, there is no way around it. I did not enjoy the liquid phase and the puréed was only slightly better. Now that I am eating real food, it is amazing. I’ve also realized that I was eating a decent diet before surgery because I am basically eating the same way, just fine tuned a bit. My portions are obviously much smaller, but I’ve always known that portion control was my big issue.

I am now 35 days out and I have been on soft foods for a week. I am weighing in at 207, so that is a 22 pound loss in 5 week. The weight is definitely coming off slower but I am ok with that. I have had no issues with foods except for milk and has really made the journey a lot easier. I am going to start back at the gym tomorrow so I am excited about that. VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

I am currently living out of a hotel and I am bored to death. I miss my baby girl and boyfriend, and I am ready to be home with them. Anyhow, the puréed stage is going really well. I’ve had applesauce, oatmeal and puréed chicken tortilla Soup. My surgeon said that he has never heard or seen of a leak after four weeks, so I hit my four weeks next Monday. I have so much anxiety about that, and I know that there are people on here that had later leaks, but I feel like 4 weeks is a good time to stop worrying so much. Outside of that, I did have my first instance of eating too fast. I came up to my hotel room and ordered chicken tortilla soup. It was so good and I ate too fast. Luckily I didn’t eat too much, but I was miserable for a good half hour. Another thing is that I am surprised at how little of an appetite I actually have. I have not been hungry since having the soup (at 2:30), and it is 10:30 now. I just forced myself to have a little applesauce because I am getting so few calories. I can’t do Protein Shakes anymore so I have been depending on GENEPRO this week. I am going to buy some syntrex nectar next week and give that a try.
