Dr. Forbes Buffalo, NY 2/12 Weeks! First post!
JudyAnticola replied to NoPBJ's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
NoPBJ--here is my story, lol. I had bad nausea 3 times on the first day, but none after that. It was relieved with the drugs they gave me. I was doing well so I went home Friday morning. I went to work today, 6 days post op, so I think I am doing really well (dont forget I am old too, 56!) Everything was fine on my post op visit, I am just tired. I will start back to my Jazzercise class on Friday and will do the 4 mile walk with the gang on Saturday. Not sure how that will go. Still have some neck stiffness, really I can not complain much. I am down about 10 pounds, however, BGH has weighed me on 3 different scales so it is hard to tell for sure. I would not say it was a walk in the park, but it was not as bad as expected. The nausea and heaving was terrible though. -

LindaTatu, I lost your phone number. I wanted you to look up something in the book for me, Borders was out of it. I get bad gas everytime I eat and I am wondering if it is just because I switched to more solid food? also, I think I might not be chewing or else I am eating too fast, as I get a lot of discomfort in my chest, I guess it will teach me to slow down. Are you going to walk on Saturday?, I will be there. I hope Val and Nicki will come too. -

Hoffman told me 5 pounds a month is what you should be losing. I do know that Loraine lost about 65 pounds and that is about 8 months. Hope that helps or that someone else gives you their stats. Look on the various tickers and you should be able to see how fast or slow others are losing. -

DaniellaBee, it took me 3-4 months from first contact to seminar. Then two more months for surgery. So 5-6 months and from what I heard that is fast. Mine went fast because my insurance did not require a weight loss, and I was already approved right from the beginning. I know how frustrated you are, but it does take that long. Also Dr. Hoffman is off for a month and I heard Dr. Forbes is leaving, so that could delay things. The good news is, since there is no seminar the list must be getting shorter as they must be catching up on those waiting already. Try to call to other facilities to see if they are faster, I am not sure. -

No this is of a gastric nature. The gas, which is Carbon dioxide) from the surgery is released at the end of surgery and any minimal residual leaches out through the system. That gas is not in the intestines, it was in the abdominal cavity. This is clearly intestinal in nature. Perhaps it is just because I finally had real food. It was terrible, it kept building up all night. It is better now but I am nervous about eating. Thanks for your reply. -

Why do I have so much gas after everything I eat? I do not mean a little, I mean a lot of painful pressure, no matter what I eat, no matter how small. Help, it is so uncomfotable. -

I have my post op today. It should go well. I am a little sore and achy but am able to drive. I do nap a little during the day. Ate a little chili today, I have a clear picture of when to stop, LOL! Not too many complaints, more gas then I would like. Ate cream of broccoli Soup though, and found out afterward that broccoli is not allowed. I am liking the Protein drinks, I add banana or sometimes Peanut Butter. Starbucks has two whey Protein Drinks for anyone who is missing the coffee shop scene. The muffins looked so good though. Maybe better not to look at them. I really wanted to try one, but was sure I would be sorry so I was good. They were free samples no less! Did anyone have a lot of bruising after the surgery. One incision, the highest one near my boobs is about the size of a baseball. The others did not bruise too much. Over all, thumbs up! Have to work Wednesday, Ugh! -

I peeled the glue off! I think 8 pounds off is good, that is about 2 pounds a week which is a great rate. I am not exercising much right now, I am sure that will kick the loss up. I will be happy to lose 5 pounds a month. thanks for your input. -

I am doing creamed soups too on the first week. The liquids just did not make me feel good so I added the soups and puddings My sleep cycle is so off for some reason. I think things are going well, I will see Dr. H. on Tuesday. Can you feel it when you have eaten enough? When eating the Soup I start to feel a little discomfort and I stop there. I am thinking that it is the sign that the pouch is full and I need to stop or slow down. I will need to be more in tune to that as I add in cottage cheese next week. When do you have a clinic visit again? -

You should go to the support meetings or meet with the post surgical girls in Delaware Park on Saturday. I am only 4 days post op, so I can not give you much advice. I can not imagine not losing weight on the band. Perhaps you should call and make an appointment with the dietician. Are you exercizing enough? also, perhaps Val will come on and give you some advice as she is doing well and she has never had a fill. If you are not losing at all I have a feeling you may have misunderstood some of the instructions, so please get support. I have to admit, I am only 4 days out and I am surely not hungry! -
There is a whole thread about hoffman, just go to that thread.

Val, did you clean the glue off of your abdomen or did you just wait for it to wear off? did you take your meds whole or crush them? Dr. H. said I could take them whole, I am just not sure how I will know if they go down or if they are stuck. did you stay on liquids the full 7 days? I am eating creamed soups and stuff and not having any problems. Just wondering what you did. -

Who asked about crushing pills? I was banded yesterday and was able to take my meds whole, per the MD. I had no problem taking pills. -

Maybe you could make an appointment to see your PCP. It did take my PCP 3 weeks. I think I submitted my other paperwork though without my PCP statement, then submitted other things as they came in. Maybe you can get a referral from your gynecologist. -

Yep, Judy from Buffalo!!! I am really surprised that you could eat the day before surgery, even for my colonoscopy and hysterectomy I had clear liquids only. They want your bowel empty for most surgery because if it gets nicked--well you can imagine! My last meal can be breakfast the day before, but no carbs at all, they reinforced that. That is pretty standard at Buffalo General. My sister had a gastric bypass and just told me she went for Chinese before her surgery. You are right, follow your doctors orders, because each case is different. Lucky you to get pasta before the band!! Have fun in Buffalo! -
Losing weight, No PBing, Slime, or Stuck
JudyAnticola replied to LundyLane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
At least two of the ladies I exercise with have not had a fill and are quite successful with losing. I am being banded this week, and I hope not to have a fill for some time. The band does come with some saline in it I believe. Of course it will work without a fill, because it is still giving you that smaller pouch. I think the key is to follow ALL directions closely. -

work does seem to interfere with life doesnt it? I could only get 6 days off after surgery. Hope that is enough. -
