Help - I’ve stalled during first month!
psyance replied to amybeth150's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’ve been in a stall for a week. Finally saw a change today. I knew it would happen, didn’t change a thing. Just waited it out. -
Savory/salty options during the full liquid diet post-op?
psyance replied to AuDBall's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I made a lot of egg drop soup during full liquid. I know the egg isn’t “full liquid” but it was close enough for me. Never had any issues. -
Vaping marijuana problems before surgery? Looking for advice

Possibly. I would talk to your surgeon. I don’t think it will ruin your opportunity though. I’d be surprised if this changes anything tbh. -
Vaping marijuana problems before surgery? Looking for advice
psyance replied to Cam Paige's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don’t think so. The concern is drug interaction with nicotine and the anesthesia. Marijuana doesn’t have the same interactive effects. Though, because of its status as an illegal drug (in most states), it’s been very difficult to research things like this (I’m a marijuana researcher btw). This last issue may be of the most concern for your surgeon (just the unknown). -
Time to be honest. Anyone care to join?
psyance replied to JeezLouise91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’ll throw in. I first tried losing weight at about 18. I dropped over a hundred pounds. But, slowly put it all back on. Did it again in my late twenties (~80lbs) and slowly put it back on. At 34, I got on Phentramine. Dropped 100 lbs. by 40, had put it all back on. I found that during the last time, I had to run every day and keep a ridiculously strict diet (always felt like I was starving) to not gain weight. I injured myself (running 8-10 miles every day) and the weight piled back. I’m hoping this will be the last time I ever have to drop huge amounts of weight. Smaller portions and a size that allows me to stay active without injury. Fingers crossed. -
Day 3 is the worst. Every day from here on out will hopefully get better. I was where you are now, and felt like it was a mistake. I’m in my third week postop now, and aside from the diet, I feel great. It gets better.

Could Someone 'Splain This To Me?
psyance replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had virtually no preop or postop instructions. I wasn’t even taught how to handle/empty my JP drain after my hospital visit. My surgeons office scheduled me for my first “followup” 6 weeks after my surgery. I called and changed it, because I wasn’t about to have a JP drain for 6 weeks. Indeed, my surgeon gave me no real instructions on postop diet. I had a sheet from a nutritionist that I saw 4 months prior to surgery (I use “saw” loosely, it was done over Skype). I’ve received much better info here than I did from any preop appts (which were just basically a weight check once a month). My surgeon was rated highly online, and I liked him well enough, but the info from his office was pretty light (especially after reading what others have gone through). So, some of this isn’t a “stupidity” issue. I just don’t think people know the difference between what will be a good surgeon/program and what makes for a bad surgeon/program. Had I not found this community, I would have thought my experience was the norm. This brings up another point. When people on here say “follow your surgeons program” or “have you checked in with your surgeon about X”, they might be doing everything they were told (which is to say, not much). -
I see wildly different timelines, and I’m just wondering if that has to do with different healing times based on surgery type (I understand it also has to do with individual Dr.s).

Not sure what to do...family doc against bariatric surgery
psyance replied to TexasMommy80's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes. Switch PCs (or at least that’s what I would do). That’s BS. -
What heals faster rny or vsg?
psyance replied to psyance's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No. I had an rny a few weeks ago. I was just curious. -
For those of you that have made it to this point. What was your first soft food? Was it uncomfortable to eat soft foods for the first time?
-
I’ve been eating yogurt during the whole purée phase. Cream of wheat and mashed potatoes were also on my list of items that were ok during this time (though, I haven’t eaten either). I ate a piece of a hard boiled egg tonight. The feeling was strange, but not uncomfortable. On a side note, I used to be vegan, years ago, and would like to go back. Apparently it’s possible after this surgery?

I’m a guy, and I think we tend to drop a bit faster.

Full Liquids/ What is normal?
psyance replied to KimTriesRNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now, you can eat a full cup of soup easy, or a full yogurt pretty easy. That’s because it passes through the pouch into the intestines easily. Once you move to solid foods that won’t be the case. So, I wouldn’t worry about it. -
Congrats Wanda! I had mine on 11/29 and am down 25 lbs today. Agree that purée is boring. I’ve started making egg drop soup, which has been a great change from the norm.

Will do. Thanks!

I’m 10 days postop now, and I’m still having miserable mornings. I don’t sleep the best, but still mornings are rough. I feel pretty good by about 10/11 am, but before that I just drag. Getting my water and protein (which seems to be everyone’s go to response). Just wondering if anyone else struggles in mornings. How long does it seem to persist?
-
I’d like to say it gets better soon... but so far that’s not been the case for me.
-
Fwiw, I ate normal solid food right up to surgery. I ate a burger the day before for lunch and a steak the night before. Liquid diet was never even discussed with my surgeon. Now, going into ketosis during recovery, yeah, that was rough, and the constipation was brutal. But I don’t think this is as big a deal as you think it is (I was rny gb, btw. not sure if that matters).

4 weeks not losing weight
psyance replied to Cindy757's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven’t hit this spot yet, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned on here, it’s that these spans of no weight loss occur. And it seems like the first one comes sometime in the first month. Don’t worry, stick to your plan, try not to feel too discouraged, and know that this (both the stall and your feelings about it) are just part of the process. Let it happen, and in time you’ll be right back at it. -
Wondering if anyone else is experiencing anything like this. I wake up several times in the night absolutely drenched. I feel a bit cold as well (so severe night sweats). I’m also a bit delirious when I wake up. Thoughts like “ok, you have two choices, rule the world OR be a camel” so very weird. I get up, go to the bathroom, straighten out my thoughts, go back to sleep, and start the pattern all over. I believe I’m plenty hydrated (I’m a psychologist, so I’m thinking about possible delirium causes and hydration is one of them) and getting the required protein. More curious about the night sweats than anything I guess.

It’s only been a week for me, but from what I can see, our post surgery diet is mostly protein with some vegetables at the end (if possible). This sounds very much like the low carb diets (eg Atkins). Right now, I know I’m squarely (and deeply) in ketosis. I peed on a Ketostick and it nearly turned black. Just wondering if we will always need to follow a low carb lifestyle? I’m totally cool with low/no refined sugars, but I really enjoy fruit, and I feel like it’s a healthy food in moderation.

How much weight have you lost in the first month?
psyance replied to Omega25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Almost 50 lbs in the first month! That’s impressive. Congrats! I’m only 1 week out, but I’ll pop back here in 3 weeks. -
Just curious what people’s favorites are? I’m currently drinking an ice cold premiere protein (strawberries and cream), and am surprised how tasty it is. I assume there are other good ones out there to try, as well as ones I shouldn’t waste money on. Let’s hear it...

What was your worst day?
psyance replied to kcvasquez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt great day 1 and 2, then day 3 happened and it was miserable. Everything got better from that point though. I’m now at Day 6 and doing quite well. I wish you a speedy recovery, and hopefully you feel just as good (or better) in the coming days.
