My husband is getting banded at the same time as me and also my parents are being banded 2 days after us as well. We all spend so much time together and we all need it, so we made a hard decision to all have it done. I don't think that we would be as successful if only one or two of us had it done. I am excited to for once be and active and healthy family together! Kammi in Everett, WA soon to be banded 5/27/08 Dr. Kuri - Mexico

Allison, Just remember about the pizza though... even if you can tolerate it, it might not be a good idea to eat it.... I have heard emergency room stories about pizza and other breads and the Lap Band. Just be careful! Kammi in Everett, WA

I am going through last suppering right now... have had the surgery scheduled for almost 2 months now and will be banded at the end of May - 27th. I am eating at the all the restaurants and eating all the foods that I for sure know that I won't be able to tolerate or eat after banding... however, once I start my pre-op diet, I will stick to it strictly and have made the mental comittment that once that is started, I will life a banded life and not eat around the band as to cause problems that sometimes don't come up for 2-4 years after banding. I don't want to lose my band. I start my pre-op diet the Monday after next. Yikes, it's coming quickly... going to the movies today to have my last heavily buttered movie popcorn... I have accepted that I won't be able to eat it again! I am ok with that, but do want my one last pig out! Kammi in Everett, WA

I have to say that when I accepted the fact that I was SUPER MORBIDLY OBESE and decided to have the Lap Band to help me gain control of my life again (I haven't been banded but will be in 3 weeks - but scheduled surgery 2 months ago), I decided that I needed to adjust my life to not eat things like pastas, breads, Cookies, rice, carbonated beverages, etc., whether or not I could handle them after banding. Those were all the things that made me fat in the first place over a lifetime of eating them, even if they were in small amounts. I have been involved in several online support groups (some VERY TRUTHFUL about life after banding) and also have started a face to face support group in my area where we meet regularly. When we choose to try to eat all those things, and take sips of Water occassionally with our meals, and break band rules, even ever so slightly, sometimes the effects don't come for a few years. With all of my research and contacts at this point, I have met several that have been banded for 3-4 years and the ones that pushed the envelope so to speak or didn't follow band rules pretty tightly, are now after 3-4 years and having difficulties, even a few have lost their band or had to have additional surgeries due to slippage. I don't mean to offend or be a Miss Know it All, that is not my intention here... but the band is only a tool and you can definately eat around it and in the long run, you are right back to what made you decide to have it in the first place..... plain old FAT and unhealthy. I know for myself, I will follow band rules strictly and choose highly nutritious foods to get maximum health benefits from what I eat. I know I will encounter struggles a long the way, but I am doing this because I want to be healthy, regardless really of the weight... and I have a lot to lose. Almost every person that says they are having struggles or major problems, it usually boils down to what they are eating or how they are eating..... like 90% of the time. I hope people make wise choices if they choose to keep their band for a long time or life and be healthy! Hate me if you choose. Kammi in Everett, WA

I haven't been banded yet, but Northwest Fill Management is based about 10-15 milies from my home, I feel truly lucky! I know they travel around providing fills for other areas of WA State... I have heard wonderful things and look forward to meeting Robin and Kitty soon. I have talked to Kitty on the phone and we hope to have Kitty and/or Robin talk at our support group in the near future. I am glad they are coming to a location near you! I am so excited too.... a lot to soak in about the life we are all going to live in the future... but instead of living for food like I do now... I will be eating to live. I have never been thin or even remotely close, so it is going to be an adjustment... I have heard you don't stop seeing the fat person in the mirror for 2-3 years after you have lost your weight.... I am going to work on it so I can see her before then! I am so thankful that we even have an option like this to change our lives! It's terrific! We must all remember that until you have enough fills to restrict you, you might not lose any weight at all... that is more norm. We are lucky if we lose before then. Each small step is a celebration and I do believe the more we follow the rules, exercise and DON'T find ways to eat around the band and take the time to heal properly, we will be more successful! I can't wait! Kammi in Everett, WA soon to be banded 5/27/08 Dr. Kuri - Mexico BMI 52

Hey you two, I am a teacher too! I teach 3rd grade... trying to leave teaching but it's tough! Anyhow... I picked my day (May 27) as it was only a four day week at school due to Memorial Day and I have the sick leave.... so I just took it off.... I hate to write sub plans for that long though. I just told my principal 2 days ago even though I have had this planned for over a month now. I didn't want to tell her, but I just did it because I didn't ever want to deal with issues of her thinking it was a vacation... you see my husband teaches pe at the same school and we are both going to be gone... hard to say we are both having minor surgery or a medical procedure without something looking weird without telling... so I just did it and a big relief is off my back... only 3-4 people at work know and I probably won't tell anyone else... some might suspect after my hubby and I show up in September and are down 30 or 40 or more pounds... but then I can make up whatever I want or tell then. What grades do you two teach and where? Wish we got out at the end of May! My birthday is May 28! That would be a great birthday present! We get out like June 20 or something.... just had one snow day this year and it was built in to make up. Although..... it is 32 degrees right now and SNOWING! About an inch on the ground and still snowing! It was 79 degrees last weekend.... REALLY STRANGE~! Kammi in Everett, WA soon to be banded 5/27/08 Dr. Kuri - Mexico
