How long before I can eat real food?
Jeannie49 replied to 50+ssallday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain ...I'm a bit hungry but really more just wanting to have something other than 6oz of protein shake every day...and broth and sugar free ice pops...will be thrilled when I can have a scrambled egg or some pureed soup or even Greek yogurt which I don't love lol... I go to the surgeon tomorrow and hopefully get my next stage to start on. -

omg - I would be beyond pissed. I wonder what could make them postpone - the surgeon is sick...or had a death in the family or something? and not to have another date. I'm so so sorry. keep us posted! -

hi Mary - I just responded to another post of yours before seeing these more recent ones. Sorry you are struggling You sound like you may be a bit like me in taking on too much for everyone and then burning out a bit ...please remember to give yourself a break..you are less than two weeks out of surgery where they removed much of a major organ. We deserve to have some highs and lows, both in energy and the scale. I get bummed when i step on the scale and there's no movement for a second but I am reminding myself there is a process and the body will re-settle as so many people have said. Friends who have had this done said they didn't lose for a whole week several times during the first year, yet still took off all their weight (over 100lbs) and that the body needs to adjust. I keep trying to keep my mental dialogue positive and that works for me. Hang in there sweetie...just follow your surgeon's plan and your weight will come off too -

oh sorry to hear that! I do think we have to be careful not to overdo it! The day I'm seeing the surgeon my boss wants me to meet them at the team holiday lunch which i have no issue sitting there drinking through and then back to the office..I'm probably going to be super tired but I'm trying to build up stamina each day. Hope you're feeling a bit better now! -

oh I'm glad I'm not the only one...I have been done with the nausea since a few days post op but this breath is nasty and embarrassing. Going to ask the surgeon Wednesday if that subsides any time soon. -

I'm 9 days out now...and I know I'm in full fat burning mode. My post op 2 week diet is only 8oz of protein shake total each day plus fluids. I know I'm in full fat burning mode, not just from the scale but apparently I have the ketosis breath that comes with low carb diets. It's really bad - my poor husband. Anyone else experiencing this or know how long this should last? when I research I get that it can last while you're eating low carb...eek. -

oh wow -that's some pressure but thankfully it worked out! I am on liquids only for the 2 weeks post (have until the 21st) and I'm already getting a bit stir crazy on it and it's after I'm sleeved...god bless these people who had to do it pre-op! -

I didn't weigh myself for the first few days as I was afraid of gain from all the fluids in the hospital..hopefully that gets flushed out in a few days and you get on a losing track. -

oh yikes..sorry to hear that - that happened to me. I caught a sinus infection very early and the ENT put me on an antibiotic that ended a day and a half before my surgery. Do you think it's a cold or virus or a bacterial infection? -

welcome to the forum i'm pretty new too and the board has been a great source of info for me.. I had a similar thought yesterday about why i did this around the holidays as it's not like I'm way ahead on shopping or anything and there's so much to do ...not even thinking about the food. My sister took me to get my nails done today and I was excited to hear the holiday music..and then realized that I usually have it on while I do a lot of my christmas cookie baking (which is obviously not happening this year)...tomorrow I'm going to put my music on and try to get myself into it a bit more.. I had mine on 12/7 and really hoping on the 20th he moves me off of fluids. I would love to have some jello right now -- the popsicles are keeping me going. did you have a pre-op liquid plan? -

Mine are much more tame too! I haven't lost anymore either and have my first appt at 12/20 too..too funny as I was thinking a 20lb loss would be nice too but seeing how these stalls happen, I'm trying not to worry about it too much. I also know what you mean about pushing yourself == I overdid it today for the first time and I feel like the tightness/swelling/soreness near the large incision feels a bit better so that's a good thing. Keep going - you're doing great. -
Good luck Candiakilah and Atsu! You got this! report back how you made out.

oh yikes that sounds awful. I had a bit of water nausea for a couple days after I came home but nothing bad like that.. as part of my surgeon's protocol, I take 1 chewable pepcid morning and night so that may be helping me there..I would call your surgeon's office as every protocol is different and ask if you can add that in? -

wow - you're doing great -- good for you so interesting to me how different the protocols run from surgeon to surgeon...I felt pretty sluggish today for the first time on top of being hungry...but now that I see I'm only eating 100 calories or so maybe that's to be expected lol... keep up the great work -

oh yeah - they had some sort of protein jello on my tray at the hospital and the nurse grabbed it as she said my surgeon doesn't allow that just yet...I have natural apple sauce, sugar free pudding and sugar free jello in the fridge but won't touch until he tells me I can go there.... -

Interesting info ..and makes sense. Can I ask what your post-surgery diet was the first week? I'm only on 6oz a day of protein shake which is about 90 calories...and then some sugar free liquids, sugar free ice pops, broth, etc. for 2 weeks. Today was the first day I was hungry and they upped me to 2.5 oz per meal but that is still not getting up there... I see the doctor again on 12/20 and move to phase 2..not sure how many calories I will be increasing to...
