Being at restaurants and getting asked "did you not like your food?" and wasted money/food
MsTipps replied to michaeli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I havent eaten out yet but I'm going away for the weekend to a heavy metal festival so I know I'll find it tricky. I forsee a lotta soup minus bread! @Creekimp13 I love the idea of having a medical card to order from children's/senior menu. I will definitely be asking if they do them here in the UK at my next consultation. I was thinking either order a starter only or asking for a half portion may be an option but the children's menu maybe a better solution. @michaeli while we all adjust to our new lifestyles, we've gotta stop feeling guilty. Like @Rainbow_Warrior said, I too grew up in a household where plates were to be cleared and if they weren't it was an insult not only to your family but to God for what he had provided for us and to the starving people of the world. It's only now that I'm training myself to stop feeling bad when I can't clear my plate. If my kids leave stuff cos they're full, I don't have to eat it for them. We are not garbage disposals and don't need to feel guilty or give restaurant staff an explanation if it makes us uncomfortable. Be kind to yourself. -
Not wanting to be a Debbie downer BUT...... I think you need to be stopped for 4-6 weeks as a minimum before surgery due to all the nasty complications like increased chance of infection, poor wound healing and higher chance of respiratory infections alongside the pressures of anaesthesia. As for your question, different surgeons test at different intervsls by different ways including urine, blood or breath. Be aware that smoking cessation products containing nicotine will give a positive result. Cold turkey is by far the best way to stop but I've heard vaping nicotine free can help in the early days. Good luck xxx

@fulamuso looking good!! You're all doing so well. Happy valentines to you all. I'm at 235 now so slowly but steadily heading in the right direction ☺ x

Hey hun. I was told to add in puréed food slowly... one day at a time. I did 1oz-2oz of this and that in week 3 then week 4 added more stuff into the mix. The dietician is happy with that and now has said she wants me to try more texture like salads and crispbreads next week. The fitness coach told me to just focus on walking til week 6 so I don't think you need worry about it. Xx

Questions about the liquid diet
MsTipps replied to Cats315's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My preop calories were to be under 800 a day. I chose low fat low carb protein shakes like phd diet whey, isopure, precision and even slimfast if out and about. If you're in the USA, I hear premiere protein being discussed a lot. They don't seem to sell it in the UK. If your plan says liquids only then that's exactly what it means. No sugar free pudding etc. If you don't stick to it you could jeopardise your surgery so do it to the letter. Phone your surgeon if in any doubt about anything as this is definitely something you need to get right.xx -
Congratulations sweetie! Keep on sipping and walking. Sending healing thoughts xx

Do you chew and spit?
MsTipps replied to Marissa37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope I've never done this and it sounds like a pretty bad habit so I don't fancy it. I'd rather train myself to eat healthy food and enjoy it than develop another problem. -
3-4 protein shakes a day with min 64 oz water for a month with vitamin and mineral supplements x

Look at it the way I look at my 2 stretchmarks on my belly. I got them through my pregnancies and they're my skin's diary documenting the two best things that ever happened to me. This is one of the most significant points of your life. Look at your dimpled tummy and learn to smile because it symbolises the amazing changes you've made and how far you've come. X

I gets better with each passing day. Hugs x

Eating slowly and your full feeling
MsTipps replied to UKHEIDI's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I force myself to take 30 mins to eat no matter what it is and keep my eye on the clock. Take TINY spoonfuls, chew each 20 times - even if there's little texture (I'm on puree/soft at the moment) and put the spoon down for at least 30 seconds between bites. I'm hoping I will rely less on the clock when it becomes habit xx -
Inches lost post body lift/tt?
MsTipps replied to HRHMKB's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@jess9395 that sounds good too - will just have to see what I feel is needed at the time. My tummy, boobs and upper arms are definites. Not sure any amount of exercise could sort them out x -
I don't think carbs agree with me. The only time I lose weight is if I keep them to a minimum and I get tummy pain if I have simple sugars. I'm planning on sticking with low carb, low fat recipes in the longterm x

Inches lost post body lift/tt?
MsTipps replied to HRHMKB's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Can I ask what is included in a body lift? I am at the start of my weightloss journey but am already saving for the tidy up operation at the end. Wondering if this body lift thing could be the answer to my prayers! x -
Yes - I was sore lying on my left or on my tummy until quite recently and i'm 4 weeks out hun. I think it just takes time for healing to occur x

What are folks eating for amounts?
MsTipps replied to BostonWLKC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I think that sounds pretty reasonable. I'm 4 weeks out and eating 3oz protein meals so by 7/8 weeks you sound about right x -
Good luck hun. I was 292, went to 270 with preop and got RNY on 12th Jan. I'm at 238 now You can do this xx

Make sure you're getting enough iron. Bruising easily can be a symptom of anaemia. X

About them arms..chicken wings, turkey necks
MsTipps replied to Marissa37's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A lot of folks get brachioplasty when their weight has stabilised x -
Thanks @Tyson4834. I've went back to full liquids and feel fine now. I'm keeping water and protein shakes down with no problems so I'm going to do pureed food tomorrow in the hope that I'll be ready for soft food next week. I was pretty scared tbh! The doc says if it happens again, he would want to check me out for a stricture so keeping my fingers crossed that it's not that and instead, I've just got a temperamental tummy xx

So having eaten 3 teaspoons of white fish in low fat parsley sauce, chewing at least 20 times and waiting a minute between bites, I now have crippling upper gi pain and am experiencing the foamies for the first and please god, the last time. What do I do? I feel a bit afraid! X
